  1. @phelps How do you feel about men's epee now that your opponents for the Top4 are ?
  2. Yes, this actually happened. The ECh silver medalist is out in the R32 against . Their chances of qualification is greatly reduced.
  3. Did... just lose against in men's epee???
  4. We are a bunch of losers in the team events. Never deliver when it matters the most. Same thing that happened four years ago in Budapest.
  5. Told ya, Hungary loses it from a 43-38 lead...
  6. Walczyk about to save Poland in women's foil against Hungary.
  7. Oh boy, and are all losing atm in men's sabre.
  8. Oh fuck, we are struggling against Mexico in men's epee. Boys, don't do this to me.
  9. takes a huge step towards Paris with that win. They will have a 10+ points advantage over and for the European quota before the 4 World Cup events. v and v in the semis.
  10. Welp, goodbye women's epee quota... There goes that dream. And Poland is beating us in women's foil as it was expected. Hungary is collapsing in the team events.
  11. Btw, if takes that quota, it will be bad news for the Europeans in women's foil. and will have to fight for the one remaining spot. In fact, I think might take that quota even if they don't appear at the World Cup events at all...
  12. @thepharoah Are you sure your federation doesn't want that women's foil quota? You just made it into the Top16 by beating , I think you can take the African quota as long as you appear at the World Cup events.
  13. wins against and takes the 7th place. This pretty much proves that Canada is still very much in contention for the quota.
  14. That can make things interesting on the Paris overall Olympic medal table. If they aren't dominant in swimming, they are vulnerable, especially if China wins some of those swimming gold medals that they drop.
  15. I wanted to do this for the team sports, even if it's very early. I am excluding smaller versions of the same team sport (beach volley, 3x3 basket). First column is for the teams that are returning after Tokyo. Second column is for the teams that gained a quota. Third column is for the teams that qualified for Tokyo and currently don't have a quota. My aim with this is to track how each nation is doing in team sports compared to Tokyo. For now it mostly just shows the French dominance until we will get to the OQTs. Returning Tokyo2020 teams Gained quotas Lost quotas M Football (9/16) W Football (4/12) M Basketball (1/12) W Basketball (2/12) M Volleyball (1/12) W Volleyball (1/12) M Handball (2/12) W Handball (2/12) M Water polo (3/12) W Water polo (3/10) M Field hockey (1/12) W Field hockey (1/12) M Rugby (7/12) W Rugby (7/12) Baseball (-) Softball (-) 14 teams 4 teams 2 teams 1 team
  16. Yeah, I can't see any of the top nations missing. Host - World - Europe - or America - Asia - Africa - Oceania - World - or + I can't even see which team would be able to shake things up here, this Top12 is solid. And if refuses the quota, would be the obvious alternate. This might be the most rock solid lineup out of all the team sports in Paris.
  17. And this is why fencing has one of the best team events among the individual sports. It's the only combat sport where the team format truly works because you actually need a team. One bad member can kill your chances even if you got two amazing fencers. There really should be a wild card system for a situation like Greece. When a fencer is in the Top5 in the world, they shouldn't be able to miss the Olympic Games.
  18. Yes, they can. As long as you qualify at the least 4 teams, you can invite two more and have the full squad in Paris.
  19. Okay, let's try this... Predicted WCh placements 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Projected Olympic ranking 1. 217 pts - World 1 2. 192 pts - World 2 3. 176 pts - World 3 4. 172 pts - World 4 --- 5. 160 pts - Europe 6. 150 pts 7. 142 pts - Asia 8. 128 pts - Africa 9. 116 pts - America 10. 116 pts 11. 114 pts 12. 99 pts 13. 98 pts 14. 89 pts 15. 83 pts 16. 76 pts 17. 76 pts
  20. without a single individual medal at the Worlds for the first time since 2005. Their implosion is strange. It's as if Japan kinda took their place.
  21. The 9-16th placement matches are done in women's epee, so I am updating these. WCh placements: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Which would result in this Olympic ranking after the Worlds + Continentals + 1 World Cup 1. 256 pts - World 1 2. 220 pts - World 2 3. 156 pts - World 3 4. 144 pts - World 4 --- 5. 140 pts - Europe 6. 135 pts - America 7. 124 pts 8. 122 pts 9. 118 pts 10. 114 pts - Asia 11. 113 pts 12. 108 pts - Africa 13. 105 pts 14. 100 pts 15. 98 pts 16. 68 pts 17. 68 pts
  22. The last goal... one of the craziest quota winning moments for us ever.
  23. The draw for tomorrow is out, this is how the potential Round of 16 looks like... Men's epee v || v v || v v || v v || v Women's foil v || v v || v v || v v || v Men's epee is a clusterfuck, I don't want to say anything about it until the first few rounds go down. In women's foil the Germany-Spain and Poland-Hungary matches will be extremely important for the European quota. Egypt will have to beat Colombia in men's epee to secure their quota.
  24. This situation with Greece should inspire the people in charge to make new qualification rules for fencing. It makes no sense whatsoever that we won't have one of the top fencers in the world in Paris just because Greece doesn't have a good enough third fencer. It's cruel, this isn't judo or wrestling where every NOC only gets one place.
