Qualification Tracker

  1. Pretty much, you can have more events or fewer athletes, but not both.
  2. At least we'll get direct matches for Olympic qualification rather than hoping for European nations to lose to non-European nations. Though that is of very little consolation to Spain and most likely France...
  3. The proposal is that breakdancing gets a men's and women's event, skateboarding and surfing will get the same events as 2020 while sport climbing will have a speed and a lead/bouldering combined event
  4. I imagine the 3 28-28 judges favoured Lacruz Edit: Nevermind, the site can't do math, Lacruz won because the three judges had 29-28 scores
  5. It made sense since there was a possibility that "5th place" would get the quota (though I guess they could have followed archery's lead and said only the top 4 were eligible). I'm not sure how exactly the singles quota won at the Pan American Games will work should the nation also win the team quota at the North/Latin America qualifier. Will it go to the silver medalist or will it go to the second qualification tournament?
  6. It was clarified by the ETTU that only the medalists will be eligible for the quotas, any extra will be added to the Moscow event.
  7. It's Romania and Germany, that was the semi-final
  8. If you only take events that existed at the 1988 Olympics (before all these "newer" events came), Canada would have still won 8 medals, 10 if you allowed the female counterparts in bobsled and ice hockey. Sure we'd drop a few spots, but we'd still be a top 10 nation rather than a top 5.
  9. Because they (and other Mongolians) compete in a lot of 3x3 events while other nations only show up for big events. The world rankings really need to be redone.
  10. Nice to see Belarus trying to make this interesting, but I imagine it's downhill for them as they just used their best rider. At this point, they need a complete disaster from Russia's final two riders to have a chance...
  11. The mixed team quota gives two athletes, one male and one female. I guess I should have been more clear
  12. Do you think they will keep the World Equestrian Games or will they split them?
  13. Australia defeated Hungary is a shoot-out 6-5 after tying them 10-10. Hungary was winning 5-1 at the half.
  14. Down to the quarterfinals in mixed team recurve at the 2019 European Games. Only France and Turkey can win both quotas while everyone else except Great Britain would win one quota while the other one is reallocated to the individual event. Should Great Britain win gold, the silver medalist will be given the quota.
  15. The ranking system rewards nations for having more players. A nation with 100 players with 1 point each would be ranked higher than a nation with 4 players with 24 points each, despite the latter would crush the former in any match-up.
  16. Yes, but the continental qualifiers have higher priority over the world tour.
  17. Yeah, it doesn't look too good for France, I guess they'll have to just straight up defeat the United States. They'll be underdogs, but are capable of winning.
  18. So looking at the bracket, France will probably be hoping one of Australia/Canada/Japan sneak into the semi-finals to force a European play-off for the last Olympic spot(s). Sadly, things don't look so great for Spain, it's hard to see fewer than 3 European teams advancing to the quarter-finals. England and Germany will be heavy favourites to advance while France will be the favourite against Brazil and even then it would require all of Norway, Italy, Netherlands and Sweden to lose their match as well.
  19. If they took the Africa-South America play-off quota and either give it to Europe or have it like before where the host quota is subtracted from the continent and then have that continent have a play-off with Europe it would be fine without needing an extra tournament.
  20. It was probably an honest mistake Archery, karate and table tennis can be a bit complicated to write due to all of the possible scenarios while shooting was just a typo. The other sports give points for world rankings (or qualification standard for athletics) so they are rather simple.
  21. Poorly written. There will be 12 shooting events, not 11. Table tennis includes the teams and mixed doubles as qualification events.
  22. If we get USA > Sweden and Netherlands > Canada tomorrow then the eight European teams will face non-European opposition, meaning they will likely have to defeat a non-European team to keep their Olympic hopes alive. Of course, the possibility of Netherlands/Sweden or Sweden/Spain in the round of 16 remains
  23. That was when AIBA was in charge, maybe the IOC will force 5th place matches. Personally I think that's more fair...
  24. Maybe it's to compromise the fact that the lower weights went from 5 events to 3. Though that doesn't explain why the women's flyweight has six more than the others. It would make more sense to have the bottom three weights to have 22 athletes each if you look at the numbers at the 2018 World Championships
  25. It's still a good quarter to be in. Depending on how today's matches go we could have Argentina finishing second in their group and Italy essentially avoiding the top teams until the semis. To be honest, I wouldn't be afraid of Canada/Netherlands if I was Italy, they are both winnable matches.
