  1. I mean that's how it is designed. Having it be 12 or 16 teams wouldn't make a difference, only for which teams would be living on the bubble. Right now the bubble teams between Division 1 and 2 are: while a 12 team group would have as the bubble teams.
  2. The big change is they got rid of the Nation's Cup quotas for Jumping. They have been added to the World Championships. Other changes include: Should a team fail to obtain the MER certificate they won't be given an individual quota as consolation. They will need to qualify an individual normally. Reallocation for Eventing teams will have a maximum of 2 attempts via composite rankings. Afterwards, the quotas will become individual quotas (via Overall Olympic Rankings). Reallocation for individual Eventing or Dressage quotas will only have a maximum of 1 attempt through their respective Olympic Group, afterwards it will be reallocated through the Overall Olympic Rankings. Team quotas from cancelled events will be reallocated based on the composite rankings of nations from the relevant Olympic Group. Horses in Eventing must be at least 9 years old (up from 8 years)
  3. The difference between winning a World Cup and not
  4. They should announce each of her medals separately Let's just hope Phelps never decides to become IOC president.
  5. Events don't need to be "pinnacle events" for athletes to care. The team championships is a perfect ramp up/check your status event in the outdoor athletics season. It doesn't overlap with the pinnacle events as it is on the off-years relative to the European Championships and the World Championships is over two months away. The timing is almost perfect, marking the mid-point of the outdoor season and the team format makes the event a little different for the athletes which probably adds a little bit more interest.
  6. Would it be the end of the world if those 12 athletes also competed in individuals?
  7. I don't like the 21-point cap, it gives an unfair advantage to the initial receiver. Just go until there's a two point lead...
  8. Yeah, for the purpose of the Pan Am Games (and the Olympics) the West Indies team will be separate so there are in fact a lot of teams that could compete. If we have an 8-team tournament we'd likely see host join for both the men and women's tournaments with and rounding out the men's and women's teams respectively. , or maybe one of the minor West Indies nations could also qualify
  9. Makes sense. Looks like basketball was also cut, the only core Olympic sport not to be held at the games. So we have 30/31 core Olympic sports, 3/5 LA28 sports (Baseball/Softball, Cricket, Squash) and 3 Pan Am sports (Basque Pelota, Karate, Water Skiing).
  10. There goes almost all of chances for medals. I hope they reconsider racquetball. Did the bowling venue from 2019 not survive? The sport doesn't bring much revenue, but it also doesn't cost much to host if the bowling alley is still in place.
  11. Pretty much. Even the players who get a lot of ice time rarely play more than half the game. Plus they are only one player out of five on the ice (minus the goalie). There's a reason why Vegas almost won the cup in their first season despite having no superstars in their prime. Turns out having a team of second liners is better than having a traditional set of 1-2-3-4 lines.
  12. That's an interesting goal since no other nation does this. It'll also be quite difficult to achieve. Over the next summer and winter games we may get 55-60 combined medals. The United States and China easily surpasses that from summer alone. Great Britain despite being weak in the winter could also achieve this. Germany's strength in both games will likely have them ahead of Canada. After that nations like France, Italy, Japan and the Netherlands do well enough in the winter that they may hold onto their lead over Canada. Plus when Russia returns they are practically guaranteed to finish ahead of Canada in the combined medal table. Here's what the combined medal total for 2022/2024 looks like 1. - 151 2. - 106 3. - 78 4. - 67 5. - 63 6. - 60 7. - 57 8. - 57 9. - 53 10. - 51 France is a bit inflated since they hosted 2024. I forgot to mention Australia is in the same boat as Great Britain where if they have a good Summer games they could out earn us.
  13. 100m will be beaten first. I still argue that Bolt was a better 200m runner.
  14. Tribalism unfortunately. You see it at the club level too, but not so much because it's usually the manager or owner being the cause of the transfer/trade and not the athletes themselves
  15. In some ways it would have been nice if he stayed Canadian, but his lack of loyalty is definitely concerning. I can see changing nationality because you have a problem with the federation or maybe it's easier to qualify, but that goes out the window once you are changing twice and to a harder program.
  16. I mean, in rhythmic gymnastics they rotate between the apparatus in the group events every four years. There's nothing stopping FIG from selecting which apparatus will be performed on years in advance. With that said, I greatly dislike the IOC adding non-existing events. Let it develop at the World Championship/Cup level before adding it to the games.
  17. Makes sense. Doing up to seven performances over 4 days would be a lot.
  18. I've always wondered why a team would do the technical and not free. Not enough time to train for two performances?
  19. Here is Canada's selection criteria for the 2025 World Championships based on the results from the Canadian Trials. Priority 1 - Swimmers who have achieved the A standard and finish in the top 2 at the trials Priority 2 - The top 4 finishers in the 100m and 200m freestyle events Priority 3 - The top finisher who achieved the Canadian secondary standard Priority 4 - Top top finisher in the 100m backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly Priority 5 - Recommendation from the High Performance Director Since the 50m events were added to the Olympics, swimmers can now qualify in those events.
  20. I mean tradition is the only reason why it's still in the program (besides being interesting to watch). I still give the event a pass for the "12 nation minimum per event" requirement I give because it is so integral. With that said, the event would never be added today. We have only around a dozen nations competing seriously and that would never fly in this climate.
  21. Correct. We are probably looking at the end of 2026 for athletics qualification to begin. We'll know exactly when probably in spring 2026.
  22. Hopefully they will change the apparatuses. I don't think both the men and women should compete in floor just so we can have some variety. I'd rather have PH, PB, HB for men and UB, BB, FE for women.
  23. Here's the event program. The only thing left to confirm is which weightlifting weightclasses will be held
  24. Snowboarding has slipped, but is being compensated by Short Track. As a fan of Short Track I know you should never trust them. The randomness gives, but also takes.
