  1. Two issues. 1) That's presumptuous of World Athletics that none of those nations could qualify in other events thus invalidating their quota. 2) Nations can only get one universality quota so or can't be qualified in both men's and women's marathon. The same thing happened in 2020. Universality quotas showed up and disappeared for a while.
  2. The way the qualification document is written is that a nation automatically gets the K2/C2 quota while the K1/C1 gets reallocated, but here it looks like the nation can choose to decline the K2/C2 quota and receive the K1/C1. Regardless, quotas will need to be reallocated. Also it looks like is to get the K1 1000m quota instead of .
  3. Is this an actual rule? Could they not play over 3-4 days or add a rest day in between? Regardless, despite the men's depth, I don't see any true team sport besides football having more than 12 entrants. Not to mention that the women's side does not have this kind of depth.
  4. Nice to see the relay go to the oversea departments (except Mayotte), French Polynesia and New Caledonia.
  5. Yeah, with no India, the South Asia qualifier has attracted a lot more entrants than usual. Equal or more than Southeast Asia which is typically the second strongest region in Asia.
  6. Summer McIntosh is listed in: 400m Freestyle 200m Freestyle 100m Backstroke 400m Individual Medley 100m Freestyle 200m Butterfly 200m Individual Medley I assume she's doing the 100m events as practice. I don't think she needs to do the free to be considered for the relay.
  7. What a whirlwind on how they handled Abbasi's quota. Technically, the quota goes to the NOC so EOR could have chosen someone else, but Al Ghotani didn't reach the minimum athlete requirement so was not eligible. However, since the IOC has the power to create quotas they decided to decline the original quota and then create a new one. Obviously this smells like a backroom deal was made. I mean at this point, why even let the refugees attempt to qualify if they are going to nominate whoever they want.
  8. It's the joy (and sorrow) of sports. That's why we don't run a computer simulation and award medals based on that.
  9. Canada will unlikely qualify through the rankings for either event. I think we have a better chance in the mixed, but let's see what the heat looks like.
  10. Not a great day for the Caribbean nations
  11. I wonder in the mixed 4x400m relay, we will see some athletes which have to double up, ease up if it becomes apparent that they won't finish in the top 2.
  12. This is Australia's and Brazil's final chance to qualify to the Olympics. Canada and Germany will have one more opportunity.
  13. ICF: But they are individuals! They just so happen to be in the same boat at the same time going towards the same place.
  14. They just can't finish. This is commonly seen in inexperience teams or teams with a mental block. The good news is we have the talent so once we get a better coaching staff we could be something special.
  15. No, it was Great Britain and Japan who beat us. 255 puts us in medal contention, but it'd be a small chance. Pushing for 260 would put us in a better position.
  16. Quite hopeful with the draw. I want to say we have a chance in each event (some more than others)
  17. Tennis I get, because outside of the Olympics they allow two individuals from any nation to form a doubles pair, but canoeing and rowing doesn't have such rules.
  18. If they are like the previous years, the IOC creates additional quotas for the refugees. As for the athletes which already qualified, I think those spots will remain with them. Think of it like the tripartite invitations, tripartite nations can qualify normally or be given an invitation. In the refugee's case we don't know how many invitations are available until today.
  19. Yes, teams have two opportunities to qualify to the Olympics. The results of the final do not matter.
  20. It likely doesn't change the outcome for Paris, but maybe the federation can get its act together by 2028
  21. There was an eligible meet during those days in Banja Luka, but it's called the April 22nd International Swim Meet. Was this the same event?
  22. I fixed the official ranking section on Wikipedia so it should be accurate as of now. needs to decline two quotas between MS/WS/WD/XD. There will likely be changes between which individual/pair a nation will select which may affect the total number of single athletes. Additionally, a nation (New Zealand) may outright reject a quota or injuries may cause someone to withdraw.
