    We have snow in Oberhof! Not enough to reopen the closed pistes, but makes everything look less like a the kind of rugby pitches I used to play on when I was at school.

    Just catching up now and all my prophecies of DOOM for Oberhof yesterday are being fulfilled. There was a picture today of a rubber bath duck in one of the shooting range ponds. . Just hope they have enough snow in a warehouse somewhere for the weekend.

    Yeah, I suppose German TV money is to biathlon what NBC money is to the Olympics so we have to go to Germany twice a year even though somewhere like Nove Mesto would nowadays get a better crowd & more modern TV friendly tracks.

    Bah! I would put Charleroi, Belgium up against any city on the planet as the most depressing place in the world! OK, it was never the capital of the Gulag, but the huge disused steelworks in the middle of town and the numerous slag-heaps in suburbs give it an atmosphere all of its own. Dunno why we keep going to Oberhof, really. Weather is always terrible, there’s never any snow, and crowds are never that great by modern standards.

    I know that - in 1941 the Nazis were spending all the money they had looted to try to buy popularity and to convince Germans (and new Germans) that life was normal. So I am sure that was why they built it.

    Well, she is a big Liverpool fan, so plenty other reasons to be happy.

    Same everywhere, even in big countries like Italy & France all the winter sportspeople come from small villages & you get family dynasties of sportsmen.

    Well, here in Britain we had absolutely zero CC skiers for about twenty-five years, now we have three guys who regularly score World Cup points and even have a few podiums, so wherever there’s a will there’s a way. At least Iran has lots of snow.

    Well Iranian cross country skiers are not too bad, better than most Asian countries. Way better than the Saudi ones also.

    Yes, they have to be exported from Scotland and obviously we are forbidden to send big heavy lumps of rock to a dangerous country like Iran.

    Think they want to keep it as exclusive for the Four Hills. I suppose they want each of the “special” events lto have their own individual identity - so for Raw Air it is that Every Jump Counts etc. Otherwise it would just be the same thing 27 times. Maybe Evel Kneivel-style jumping over Monster Trucks for the Las Vegas World Cup? Just trying to come up with ideas here!

    And they need to bring back Classic Individual Start for the Holmenkollen 50k! Spectators would really need their tents & barbecues - even the ones watching on TV.

    When I am on a train, this is how I always know that I have crossed from the border from the Netherlands into Belgium. In all the houses in a block or estate are exactly the same, in they must all by law be different.
