  1. That means Stage 3 of the World Cup has been completed.

Host country :CHN has shown well here, much better than in the first two World Cups. :KAZ and the  :NED also had their best World Cup weekend of the season so far in Beijing.

:KOR was disappointing, but can hopefully make up for that next week in front of their home crowd in Seoul and also :POL and :ITA as well as :BEL had their worst weekend of the season so far. Poland was pretty invisible this whole weekend except for the women's relay.

These are the top 10 countries in the world based on the number of World Cup points they have gained this year, including points gained in relays:

    1. :KOR South Korea - 4.025 points (+1.014)
    2. :CAN Canada - 3.728 points (+1.153)
    3. :CHN China - 3.282 points (+1.505)
    4. :NED the Netherlands - 2.686 points (+1.094)
    5. :ITA Italy - 1.873 points (+520)
    6. :USA United States of America - 1.462 points (+476)
    7. :BEL Belgium - 1.115 points (+318)
    8. :POL Poland - 1.028 points (+264)
    9. :JPN Japan - 992 points (+297)
    10. :KAZ Kazakhstan - 779 points (+333)

Marathon Grand Championship - Paris 24 Selection Race :JPN

    October 15, 2023

The following athletes will represent Japan at the Olympics:

    Men's:

:JPN Naoki Koyama, Akira Akasaki, Suguru Osako

    Women's:

:JPN Yuka Suzuki, Mao Ichiyama, Ai Hosoda

Yuki Kawauchi was so close. :( He's probably my favorite marathon runner

  4. Interesting New York marathon with the women starting 25 minutes before the men, but :ETH Tola finishing in 2:04:59 was only shortly after the top 3 women with :KEN Obiri winning the women's race in 2:27:23.

The women were consistently running at a 2:30:00+ pace for more than 35km, where the men's race was hard right from the start.

According to the specialist speedkating website, schaatsen.nl, the Dutch team has lodged a complaint: they claim the Korean women skated one fewer round. As I understand it, according to our national coach, the jury has acknowledged this, and the expectation is that the result will be changed accordingly, hopefully before the next World Cup event in Beijing in early December .

I was also surprised that Korea finished one lap before the rest, but then again, it was probably the most chaotic race I've ever seen. Some of the skaters were also confused as Kristen Santos was sprinting to the finish with the Korean skater, and then it turned out that the US had to skate one more lap. Well now it turns out that Korea also had to skate one more, so both teams sprinted to early.

Maybe that's true, but I argue that :KOR and :CAN are just doing better than last week, which has an impact on the chances of all other smaller teams.

I was wrong. If you sum the total World Cup points won (excl. relays) in week 1 versus week 2, then Italy is indeed under-performing compared to Stage 1.

    Most improved are:

    1. :NED +336 points (796 vs. 460)
    2. :CAN +115 points (1143 vs. 1028)
    3. :CHN +115 points (716 vs. 601)

    Biggest decreases:

    1. :ITA -151 points (442 vs. 593)
    2. :POL -142 points (211 vs. 353)
    3. :BEL -121 points (243 vs. 364)
  7. ISU World Cup 2023/24 - :CAN Montréal (Stage 2/6)

Overall World Cup Standings after Stage 2 - Women:

    1. :KOR Kim Gilli - 455 points
    2. :USA Kristen Santos-Griswold - 400 points
    3. :BEL Hanne Desmet - 375 points
    4. :NED Xandra Velzeboer - 305 points
    5. :KOR Seo Whimin - 259 points
    6. :CAN Courtney Sarault - 259 points
    7. :CAN Danae Blais - 245 points
    8. :NED Selma Poutsma - 227 points
    9. :KOR Lee Soyoun - 212 points
    10. :CAN Rikki Doak - 204 points

Overall World Cup Standings after Stage 2 - Men:

    1. :KOR Kim Gun Woo - 430 points
    2. :CAN Steven Dubois - 330 points
    3. :KOR Park Ji Won - 326 points
    4. :CAN William Dandjinou - 260 points

    6. :ITA Pietro Sighel - 244 points
    7. :ITA Luca Spechenhauser - 243 points
