Tokyo 2020 is coming to an end, I hope you enjoyed following them here in Totallympics! I know not everything was perfect, there were some nightly downs of the forum in the first days and some posts had to be deleted because of abusive behavior by certain users, but I think this is something will always happen on a populated forum.
As always, since tomorrow the focus will switch to Beijing 2022 and Paris 2024, we want to be the first to start following the 2024 Olympic qualifications so I hope after some days of Olympic detoxification you will all be back on Totallympics and follow sports with us!
In the next weeks, there will be some little forum’s software updates which I postponed to avoid problems just before the Olympics, and we will also move on a stronger server, to avoid forum’s down during traffic’s peaks.
I will also have lots of hosting space, so I have thought I can create national sub-domain forums for the nations with lots of users who think their national thread is not enough. For example, I will try to launch https://italia.totallympics.com/, where Italian fans will have their own forum, in the same format of Totallympics but only for Italian fans who can write in Italian. This will allow the Italian community to grow independently in their own forum, and I’m sure Italians who want to interact with the rest of the world will keep using the “international” Totallympics as they are doing now. The great advantage comparing to the National threads is that everything would be more organized, with sections, threads etc., just like here.
I chose the Italian example because I know how and where to search for Italian fans interested in the forum. But if any of you is interested I can create other nations’ sub-domains. I will setup the forum in the same format of Totallympics, then of course I would need one person (or more) who will take care of that forum and its development. You don’t need to be skilled with information technology because dealing with the forum is really simple and I could help you, the “difficult” part would be to start a community from scratch.
That’s why I am mostly thinking to nations which already have lots of users on Totallympics, but if you are a country’s single member and you know how to bring your country’s people on the national forum once this will be ready, then we can obviously give a try. I think for many countries there are Facebook groups of Olympic fans or some small Olympic forums/websites here and there, and if you can potentially “move” them on Totallympics national forum then it would be easy for your community to grow, and then more people would start joining the forum when they find it on google. It will not be easy, but it might be an exciting experience and not a lot of your time is needed for that.
So if any of you is interested to be the “community manager” (this word might be exaggerated, linkedin style ) of her/his country, feel free to contact me anytime via private message and we will start talking about the plan. I will not be able to pay you for that role, but of course I would give you the hosting for free so you would have no expenses of any sort, and you can always count on my help.
Thank you everyone who contributed here during Tokyo 2020 and get ready for the next Olympic cycle!
