  8. Nice to read your predictions. For me Antoinette de Jong and Natalia Voronina are the clear favourites at the women's side, Nils van der Poel will win the men's race tomorrow, although I hope for Patrick Roest that he can finally become world champion on a single distance.

  9. They are Aussies! So they are "proud" and "passionate" and "enthusiastic" so it's okay for them. But if they were Greek or Serbian for example, they would be labeled as "rowdy" and "drunk" and "nationalistic"

  11. Events for Rhythmic seems still confirmed, there are also some continental events to be confirmed. Trampoline also has to confirm continental events. Only European has been confirmed so far, if I am not wrong. There were 3 WC events confirmed for Trampoline, the first one scheduled to February was cancelled. The others are still confirmed.

  12. The FIG has announced the cancellation of the Artistic Gymnastics All-Around World Cup Series. Originally, four events were scheduled in 2020, but only the Milwaukee, United States event was held as the others were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with travel restrictions remaining in place it has become increasingly difficult to schedule at least two more events to validate the results. This has implications for qualification to the 2020 Olympics as the top three nations in the men’s and women’s individual rankings were expected to qualify a quota to compete. Following the reallocation procedure set by the FIG, the quotas have been reallocated to the top three nations during the team all-around qualification round at the 2019 World Championships. Thus, the quotas were awarded to China, Japan and Russia in the men’s individual events while China, Russia and the United States qualified an individual female athlete. This athlete will be allowed to compete in the individual events, but can not participate in the team event. Currently the remaining quotas are set to be decided at the apparatus World Cup Series and the continental qualifiers. Qualified Nations Men’s Artistic Individual Events China Japan Russia Women’s Artistic Individual Events China Russia United States

  13. Truly remarkable shooting in this conditions. But the record: Holmenkollen 2016 - Belarus - 1 spare round (9th), interesting fact, Austria was 5th with second best shooting score (0+3)

  14. I went back home right when Anaïs Chevalier started her standing shooting, guess I bring the French bad luck... Norway won as expected. Amazing relay for Austria! Only 2 spares, that's maybe not a record, but it's not far from it, impressive shooting!

  21. Official press release from NBC.. NBC OLYMPICS TO PROVIDE UNPRECEDENTED NETWORK COVERAGE OF TOKYO OLYMPICS OPENING CEREMONY Definitely a welcome change of pace. Love to see an entire day of Olympics coverage surrounding the Opening Ceremony rather than the usual "we're editing the whole thing for primetime." I'm not normally a morning person, but I'll certainly make an exception that morning!!

  27. At least the last two times it was women - men, didn't bother to check further To be honest, I like when they mix the order up. As far as I'm concerned, mixed relays at the highest level (so WC, WCH and OG) should always be women - men followed by men - women - followed by women - men and so on. Not much about equality, it's just more fair to have a roughly 50/50 balance in the order in an event where things like final sprints are a thing - and so always having the same order always benefits countries who have stronger men/women (depending on who's always last). The exact distances have changed quite often recently if I'm not mistaken, it seems like they've been trying it out for a while now. I'm fairly sure I've seen mixed relays with equal distances before.

  28. Mank getting most Golden Globes noms says it all. The film that shamelessly preaches about Hollywood being bad for its involement in politics (but during the 1930s - for the Republicans). As a film alone, it's just really boring and unimaginative.

  29. Just what the qualification for the marathon at the OG need, a big mass event done just for more people to do the qualifiying mark.......

  30. Even modern pentathlon was better when they had to load physical lead pellets, because it was harder to do than just recocking.
    1 point
  31. All very well in theory, but biathlon is about balancing shooting & skiing. Since women are smaller & the rifle is the same, longer races just give even more of an advantage to the strong skiiers/weak shooters.
    1 point
  32. Well, I would disagree. Biathlon is about skiing/shooting combo. Penalty loops are flat, so relatively speaking, women do not lose as much time to men compared to downhills and especially climbs. So unless penalty loops are made bigger for women, skiing will become (even) more important than shooting. Aside from being inconvenient, using different penalty loops will again bring up the distance inequality, so there is no reason to change it. As for the individual, 1 min of penalty can be made up considerably more easily in a 55 min-race than in a 45 min-race.
