  1. Dear fellow TOISC 2023 participants, I have just received word that our dear Californian @Olympian1010 will be providing us all with an extra amazing show, with a large focus on a near-infinite buffet. As our Slovak mate @hckošice will surely much appreciate, at least until the next morning, part of this will be a limitless bar until and of course including the closing ceremony. Of course we would like to congratulate Olympian1010 himself as well and thank him for his generosity in having us share in his luck https://www.powerball.com/ticket-in-california-wins-1.765-billion-powerball-jackpot

  6. 1) None of these sports are confirmed until the session, correct? So there is still a chance that one or two of these team sports will be left off. 2) I agree that adding four team sports will inflate the athlete quota and cost some individual sports quota spots. 3) Some random thoughts... Flag Football - I think people need to understand that American tackle football and flag football are actually two completely different sports. A team of "pro" flag players would wipe the floor with a team made up of NFL guys. Also, flag in the United States is driven by the female market. So many girls are playing flag that colleges and high schools now have teams. The biggest flag football league in the United States, USA Flag, caters all of their tournaments towards women. Women get better game times and fields at these tournaments. Also, an eight team tournament could be done in two days. Finally, the US teams don't exactly dominate flag football. The Mexican women won gold at the last World Games, and flag is a sport where athletes from other countries can pick up and excel easily if given enough time to fine-tune their skills. Pretty much checks all of the IOC's boxes. Cricket - I think it's pretty cool that cricket has a shot at inclusion in the Games. How did we not see this coming with the IOC session being in India, and the 2032 games in Australia? I understand that there is a ton of money involved, but it's nice to see something not so Euro-centric get the nod. I'm sure the US press will have fun covering it. Interested to see what the US team will look like. Squash - Speaking of getting nods. It's nice to see the sport on the verge of getting in after so many tries. It's almost like a reversal of the IOC's youth and urban agenda - as Squash tends to be a country club sport in the States. Baseball/Softball - Might be the last time we see these two on the program for maybe ever. Why not just go out with a bang and bring in MLB players? The game is global enough to do that. Just move the All-Star break to August. The MLB season already goes to November as it is. Might be the WBSC only hope to keep the sports on future programs. Lacrosse - This one is a head-scratcher for me, especially with the limit on athlete quotas. I didn't think the LAOC was going to go with three "American sports" on the program, and fully believed that lacrosse - which is an east coast dominant sport, btw - was the odd man out. It's not nearly as global as any of the other sports vying for spots. Regardless, 6's is cool and should be fun to watch, just hate to see other individual sports getting their quotas cut.

Exactly. Sadly, both the president of the Mexican NOC and the state director for Sport, both former Olympians, are just there to get the spotlight and steal public funds, which in the case of the latter (Ana Guevara) are for hundreds of millions. I should have tripped her 12 years ago at the Panamerican Athletics Stadium when I encountered her in the upper stand.

Accirding to the idiotic version of the Mexican Tennis Federation, who has done nothing other than build crappy stadiums at beach resorts, the female players are to blame because they didn’t clarify being available to play. Of course no serious journalist bought this crap, and they are receiving a lot of questioning and hate from the Mexican tennis comunity.

  9. Extremely bored (yet again), so I decided to do a day by day preview for Canada’s medal chances at Paris! If I’m missing anything, let me know. Day 1 (July 27)- Pamela Ware/Mia Vallee (diving- women’s 3m springboard), Summer McIntosh (swimming- women’s 400m freestyle) and our women’s 4x100m freestyle relay. Day 2 (July 28)- Maggie MacNeil (swimming- women’s 100m butterfly), and maybe Eleanor Harvey?? (fencing-women’s foil) Day 3 (July 29) - Arthur Margelidon (judo- men’s 73kg), Rylan Wiens/Nathan Zsombor-Murray (diving- men’s 10m synchro platform), Summer McIntosh (swimming- women’s 400m IM), Christa Deguchi (judo- women’s 57kg), and if Penny Oleksiak can find her Rio 2016/ Tokyo 2020 form coming back from surgery (swimming- women’s 200m freestyle) Day 4 (July 30) - Francois Gauthier Drapeau (judo- men’s 81kg), Catherine Beauchemin Pinard (judo- women’s 63kg), Kylie Masse (swimming- women’s 100m backstroke) Kylie Masse has had a rough year, but you can never count her out during the Olympics. Day 5 (July 31)- Penny Oleksiak (swimming- women’s 100m freestyle), Illya Kharun (swimming- men’s 200m butterfly), Josh Liendo (swimming- men’s 100m freestyle) Day 6 (August 1) - Kyle Reyes (judo- men’s -100kg), Evan Dunfee (athletics- men’s 20km race walk), Summer McIntosh (swimming- women’s 200m butterfly), and our women’s 4x200m freestyle relay. Day 7 (August 2) - Mo Ahmed (athletics-men’s 10,000m), Josh Liendo (swimming- men’s 50m freestyle), Kylie Masse (swimming- women’s 200m backstroke), Sophiane Methot (trampoline gymnastics- women’s individual), Jill Moffatt/Jenny Casson (rowing- women’s lightweight double sculls) Day 8 (August 3) - Ellie Black (artistic gymnastics- women’s apparatus finals), Pierce LePage and Damian Warner (athletics- men’s decathlon), Josh Liendo (swimming- men’s 100m butterfly), Summer McIntosh (swimming- women’s 200m IM), and our women’s eights. Day 9 (August 4) - Ellie Black (artistic gymnastics- women’s apparatus finals), Ethan Katzberg (athletics- men’s hammer throw), Andre DeGrasse (athletics- men’s 100m), and our women’s 4x100m medley relay. Day 10 (August 5) - Ellie Black (artistic gymnastics- women’s apparatus finals), and our women’s 3x3 team. Day 11 (August 6) - Camryn Rogers (athletics- women’s hammer throw), Sarah Douglas (sailing- women’s dinghy), Caeli McKay (diving- women’s 10m platform) Day 12 (August 7) - Literally nothing. Day 13 (August 8) - Katie Vincent/Sophia Jensen (canoe sprint- women’s C2-500m), Andre DeGrasse (athletics- men’s 200m), Skylar Park (taekwondo- women’s 57kg), Kelsey Mitchell/Lauraine Genest (track cycling- women’s keirin), Maude Charron (weightlifting- women’s 59kg), Ana Godinez (wrestling- women’s 53kg) Day 14 (August 9) - Sarah Mitton (athletics- women’s shot put), men’s 4x100m relay, Charlie Cavanaugh (boxing- women’s 66kg), Katie Vincent (canoe sprint- women’s C1 200m), Pamela Ware and Mia Vallee (diving- women’s 3m springboard) Day 15 (August 10) - Cam Levins (athletics- men’s marathon), Mo Ahmed (athletics- men’s 5000m), Marco Arop (athletics- men’s 800m), women’s 4x400m relay, men’s basketball team, Philip Kim (breaking- B-Boys), Tammara Thibeault (boxing- women’s 76kg), Karla Godinez (wrestling- women’s 62kg) Day 16 (August 11) - Women’s basketball team, Kelsey Mitchell and Lauriane Genest (track cycling- women’s sprint), Justina Di Stasio (wrestling- women’s 76kg) Left out tennis, right now Canada isn’t in the best state, although the Olympics do tend to have some surprise medalists. Best chance would IMO be Dabrowski/Fernandez in women’s doubles, but don’t see it happening. FAA (not this version), Fernandez (not this version either), and a fully healthy Andresscu should all have chances though. Women’s football medal matches take place from August 9 (BMM) to 10 (GMM). Women’s beach volleyball medal matches take place on either August 9 or 10, dates are still TBD.

  11. Going by the assumption that Squash has a decent chance of part of the core programme once it gets in, here are my top 3 for : 1. Darts (not on the list) 2. Billiards (there would be some sort of deal to let top snooker and potentially pool players play) 3. Netball If we were to host again, I think the main focus would be to integrate "pub sports". Darts, similar to squash, has a large international appeal and would be one of the top revenue earners at the games. There is a slight lack of depth in the women's game for a 64 player field as well as a trans issue, but when the time comes for us to host again this should hopefully not be too much of a problem. The main problem though is the relationship between the amateur and the professional game, which is at an all time low. But if there's a strong urge for darts to be included, I'm sure the PDC would be able to enter a loose partnership with the WDF.

  13. Nobody cares about korfball though I don't mean internationally, I mean here in the Netherlands. I believe there is like one derby between two small towns that's a big deal....in those two small towns, but that's about it. You'll find more people who can name 10+ current MotoGP riders and 10+ current biathletes (to pick a random example of relatively small sports here) than people who can name a single current national team korfball player, no doubt. Sure, without korfball I wouldn't exist, but still

  19. That's my same thought about Greece I think "we won't qualify in any of these so I do not care" I will say it's sad that we didn't really have the option to choose to add "sports" in 2004 as the host nation, we could have swept the podium in backgammon for example

  23. I am going to take a different slant on it and not worry about what Ireland would add if we hosted. Instead I want to selfishly select what I want instead These choices are based on the assumption that squash and baseball/softball are already in because I would certainly have those in my list (I liked watching baseball and softball in Tokyo). 1. Darts 2. Bowls 3. Snooker 4. Tug-of-war (Ireland would probably add this sport if we had host picks) 5. Cricket T20 (this choice is less selfish, not a fan of cricket but I think it deserves to be there) In addition I would like to add a team event in golf and reinstate all the track cycling events that were kicked off the Olympic programme in recent editions. And of course reinstate the men's 50km walk.

  25. we also have Frank Chamizo and Abraham Conyedo in Wrestling there are quite a few Cuban boxers (Lorenzo Sotomayor for AZE is probably the best among them), wrestlers (Yasmani Acosta for CHI), weightlifters (Oscar Reyes for ITA -even if he is in a non-Olympic weight class- and Arley Mendez for CHI) competing for other NOCs just to name the best Spain has a lot of Cubans in the athletic team (Andres Diaz in Triple Jump) and in the baseball one (and also in other sports like boxing) Azerbaijan and Turkey also have Cubans here and there (Vargas in TUR volleyball women's team the most famous, I guess) and I'm sure there are way more of them, I just don't remember their names right now p.s. yes, Cuba is still a very strong Nation in boxing, actually, they are still the best team overall (but corrupted boxing authorities never let them win as much as they used to quite a few years ago)

  29. Nothing, really We don't have any sports that are children's versions of real sports (flag football) or that are real sports but immensely popular in a very specific area yet entirely unknown outside of it (cricket), so....yeah. I wonder how @Dennis, @Jinzha or @Noorderling29 would see this, but I very much doubt we'd add something 'Dutch' like kaatsen or fierljeppen which are Frisian things specifically and basically entirely unknown outside of it (personally I only know of their existence and that's it)

  34. I think olympic program is now too big, so in my opinion is no good to add new sports. Instead, i like to remove someone: skating, artistic swimming, trampoline, breaking are better out of the games. If i need to choose someting, i think its' better to improve rugby, from 7 to 15. Then, baseball/softball and karate would have to right to compete. No other, please no other

  35. There’s definitely been some growth in the sport on the West Coast. There are many high schools and universities with teams in the LA Metro Area. It’s more common than field hockey or handball, which are probably the most invisible team sports on the program in this part of the United States.

  39. The placement of in this round means only one thing, that IIHF is counting with Russia & Belarus return... Hungary is 19th in the ranking. We know that teams ranked up to 17th plays the Final Qualifying Round ( is 14th) so as such if BLR was not eligible to play another nation would have taken its place, and since the next one is (18th) which is obviously automatically qualified to the games as Host country, the next one to move up to the Final Qualifiying round would have been Hungary, so no need to be a nuclear physicist to understand IIHF is already counting with to qualify directly to the Olympics and to play the FInal Qualifying Round which would be played in Slovakia... Simple maths Final Qualifying Round is likely going to be D- SVK, BLR, KAZ, 3rd Qualifier E- LAT, FRA, AUT, 2nd Qualifier F- DEN, NOR, SLO, 1st Qualifier Still, hope dies last...people use to say... so, still we (I) hope this scenario will not occur at the end and Slovakia will qualify directly
