  1. still, it's a valuable info knowing if an athlete is from or , especially in sports like wrestling where both Nations have a strong tradition let's the politicians do their job and just let's give the most comprehensive infos about sports to whoever's gonna read our forum we also have full of pages and threads to discuss the argument and express our opinions, if and when we want to do it, there's really no need to make a political thing out of a small detail

  2. Thank you, I know you've also said in the past that you are impressed with him I'm glad he can make his first Olympics, and at 21 yo (he'll be 22 in Paris) he will surely be one of the youngest wrestlers there. Of course we also had Pilidis compete in Tokyo as a 21 yo and now he no longer competes in wrestling (though I have a feeling he will return to the sport one day), so I don't want to get my hopes up too much. Also Kougioumtsidis until now was competing in 79 kg, and he wanted to move up to 86 kg to make the Olympics but our federation decided it was a better idea to have Kurugliev who is clearly not Greek, so Kougioumtsidis had to lose weight and go down to 74 kg, meanwhile Kurugliev is injured and still doesn't have Greek citizenship anyways...so I'm glad it worked out for him in the end because our federation should really be working to protect our best male wrestler instead of giving priority to foreigners. Maybe we wouldn't have to naturalise anyone if they start treating our own talents better...

  3. Olympic Champs Otoguro and Sadulaev didn't particiapte in weight-in today I was sure the Russian tank is too proud to wrestle for the bronze specially when he knows he is not ready and will lose to his arch rival therefore everybody in 97kg top 6 is already qualified which means

  4. I've started, so may as well finish... Qualification Pathway Criteria 5 - The highest ranked eligible athlete on each apparatus will secure a quota place for Paris by name. Qualification will be based on scores from apparatus finals results. If no eligible athlete qualifies for the final, the quota will be determined by qualification results. Athletes from NOCs who have already secured team qualification are ineligible as are individual athletes who have qualified for All-Around competition under criteria 4. Men's Floor Dominick Cunningham & Eamon Montgomery Filip Lidbeck & Kim Vanstroem Neofytos Kyriakou Enkhtuvshin Damdindorj Guilherme Campos Akseli Karsikas Men's Pommel Horse Rhys McClenaghan - Starts as favourite for the quota Shiao Yu-Jan Matvei Petrov Harutyun Merdinyan Filip Ude Ahmad Abu Al Soud Dmitrijs Mickevics Radomir Sliz Men's Rings Artur Avetisyan & Vahagn Davtyan - I am expecting the quota to go to one of these two with Davtyan possibly starting as favourite. 6. Qualification Pathway Criteria 4 - Qualification is open only to those NOCs who do not have a full team qualified through Criteria 1 or Criteria 2. Individual quotas will be awarded to the 8 highest ranked eligible men's All-Around athletes and 14 women's All-Around athletes, based on the All-Around qualification scores. Athletes eligible under Criteria 4 but included in the team event on the men's side are: Carlos Edriel Yulo Van Vi Luong Yeh Cheng & Lee Chih Kai Usukhbayar Erkhembayar Yogeshwar Singh Mikhail Koudinov & Ethan Dick Isaac Nunez Joel Alvarez Andres Josue Perez Gines Santiago Mayol Rodrigo Gomez Diorges Escobar Hillal Metidji Hamza Hossaini Artur Davtyan & Gagik Khachikyan Elias Koski & Oskar Kirmes Sofus Heggemsnes & Harald Wibye Ilias Georgiou & Michalis Chari Ricardo Rudy & Askhab Matiev Ivan Tikhonov Gytis Chasazyrovas Sebastian Gawronski & Kacper Garnczarek Adam Steele Jose Nogueira Petar Vefic Yordan Aleksandrov & Kevin Penev Daniel Bago Marcus Stenberg Valgard Reinhardsson

  7. We're a couple of weeks away from the 2023 World Championships where the next raft of quotas will be awarded so may be good time to look at the runners and riders: Qualification Pathway Criteria 2 - 20 teams will compete for full quota of 5 gymnasts at Paris. Quotas awarded to the 9 highest ranked teams not already qualified based on their team qualification score. Qualification Pathway Criteria 3 - The NOCs of the 10th, 11th and 12th ranked teams not already qualified will each secure 1 individual athlete quota. Again, this is based on the team qualification score. The teams competing for the quotas under these criteria are confirmed as: Women's Team Men's Team

  8. it's really sad to see our World Champion had to wrestle in this 5th place match. he should be on that gold medal podium. but OK at least he won the quota after an easy 10-0 win. 65kg quotas are: 3 quotas is the least we could expect here. but that's OK. we still have two more chances to have a full team. and we seriously need to change something. all of our wins were something like 10-0 but we lost almost all close matches. there is something wrong we have to fix. it's not normal to lose lots of close matches in last 30 seconds. I believe our Greco team is better prepared but Greco in general is much tougher.

  9. I've been following artistic gymnastics for a long time and it's my favorite Olympic sport. So here are my impressions of the women's team qualification: are already qualified. Then the teams that will qualify without problems, unless a disaster happens: The trio Andrade, Saraiva and Barbosa are very strong, this team is favorite for a team medal. They have a strong team, they can surprise in the team final competition. Even though they lost three of their strongest gymnasts, Martina, Villa and Asia, Italy still has a very strong team. Led by their veteran Melanie de Jesus Dos Santos and even with the French gymnastics federation making horrible decisions, such as losing Nemour to Algeria, they must qualify. They have a consistent team and should qualify easily. China is my main concern in this group, they have a very strong team, even sending some of their main gymnasts to the Asian games. But the team chosen for the world championship is very weak at vault, with luck they might be able to score 39+ on this apparatus. On the other hand, they have the strongest UB and BB rotations in the world. But I heard rumors that the gymnasts selected for the world championships are suffering from injuries and are not able to perform their sets at all well. In my opinion, China is in danger, they could either win a team medal or be outside the top-12 this year. And finally the fight for the last three spots, what i see: Led by Barbosu and Voinea, they are coming with a competitive team that can not only qualify for the Olympics, as well as finish in the top-8, but inconsistency and international inexperience will be the biggest problems for this team. We finally have a competitive team, Yeo Seojeong, Lee Yunseo and Shi Sol Yi can lead our country to an incredible Olympic berth. In the Asian championship this year we scored 160+ and I'm very excited. Australia has the potential to qualify, it will depend on the performance of its veteran Georgia Godwin. Mexico has an interesting team, if they manage to hit their VT and UB rotations they can qualify without any problems, it would be incredible to see two Latin American teams in the Olympics, once Brazil is practically qualified. Teams in the bubble: I can't even imagine the frustration of the Belgian Gymnastics Federation. Losing your two strongest gymnasts on the eve of the World Championships. without Nina and Vaelen it was practically impossible for Belgium to get an Olympic place. Losing Seitz was a very hard blow for Germany, I honestly don't see Germany getting a place this time without her. They would need to be perfect and count on other teams making mistakes. It's a very Kovacs-dependent team, and I heard she was having abdominal problems. Spain is very far from the Olympic spot, especially without Popa, unfortunately I don't see them qualifying this time.

  10. Belgium will miss both Derwael and Vaelen for certain, and I think I’ve read somewhere they have a further uncertainty. There’s seems to a an assumption in at least part of the Belgian press that they won’t be able to take the team quota. I’ve seen at least one article speculating how Derwael could qualify.

  19. Athletes from Serbia and Montenegro were sanctioned in 1992, even though they had nothing with political events that were present at that time. I remember those times quite clearly. Some of athletes were even strong anti war oppinioned. No single nation or olympic comitee opposed that decision. 31 years later, even slightest objectivity is absent from majority of fans. We didnt learn nothing... Only victims in these IOC decisions are athletes. Remember that. Of course, those pro war ones are excluded, for obvious reasons.

It does indeed look like competitions will begin without a results system in place. I honestly don’t even know why I try to follow OCA events at this point. They are the most infuriating governing body in my opinion.

  31. No, is also competing for a total of nine teams. So and the winner of the qualifier will compete next round and face the top four seeds. Unfortunately you can only have so many matches with one venue. The schedule for cricket is packed as you need to take into account rain delays too. That's why if cricket ever gets in the Olympics you'd need two venues or else you'll have teams automatically advancing to the knockout stage (or just a knockout tournament).

  33. only Iranians can dominate a match but still end up losing it what he hell was that. the Russian was on the back foot for the entire 6 minutes. 4 defeats in a row against the Russians and all of those matches (maybe except 74kg) were winnable. just with a better strategy and with using that f..ing brain. most of our guys panic and don't think at all when they are down against RUS/USA.

  36. indeed he was impressive before but to be honest I never expected him to perform like this one weight down. it's really tough to cut 5kg and stay strong. most wrestlers gas badly when they cut (like our 92kg here) but it was the opposite for Kougioumtsidis he won 3 of his matches in the last minute. it didn't turn out to be a bad decision. Kurugliev (if he makes it to Paris) will be a medal favorite for sure. but 74kg is indeed much tougher than 86kg with lots of favorites. Kougioumtsidis had to go through a very hard draw, by beating Kadimagomedov and Salkazanov he really deserved the quota more than Bayramov (who is also a very good wrestler). he got lucky at the end with that singlet grab caution (which disqualified Bayramov with 3 cautions) but he deserved a bit of luck after beating those 2 guys.

  40. I understand your position. But we (Ukrainians) do not trust these "independent panels" which produce INAs. It is not a question of politics and politicians. It does not look like Mamiashvilis says "they did not allow that Ukrainian boy to shake hands". A lot of people were killed or wounded by russians in Ukraine. Almost everybody has some relative or friend on the list. And the athletes are not the exceptions. Russians killed mother of Katia Tabashnik (high jumper, Diamiond league participant) in Khrkiv in her own flat. Russians killed Dmytro Tymchik`s (national football team) brother. Russians killed Dmytro Riznyk`s (Shaktar Donetsk, goalkeeper) brother. Father of Vika Onoprienko (R. Gymnastics) have not seen her daughter for 9 months fighting for Ukraine. Olga`s Kharlan teammate`s father (Olena Khomrova, Olympic champion) died as results of Russian bombardment in Mykolaiv. And after that people like Lalovic allow z-fans like Musa Evloev to compete???? They cannont guarantee fair INAs so it must be a blanket ban. Equality as argument? Ukrainian athletes have trainings in destoyed objects, they have to travel much more longer that other participants to reach the venues of competitions, and of course they are much harder to concentrate at the events. P.S. And one more thing. The IOC is much more focused on getting russians to the games. And they are crying "they are losing quotas" and getting help from federations to obtain them despite of the rules. But nobody cares how many quotas lost Ukraine due to the war and we did not ask for any privilges. It is almost miracle that we have 52 places in the Olympic team already.
