  1. This is well written article about Calexit: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20190221-what-if-california-seceded-from-the-us I’ve some other articles that bring up better points and scenarios, but this one is good too.
  2. No, the need for more ventilators is not open to debate. They are necessary to the medical treatment of those infected, even if they aren’t a cure. Doctors and other medical workers also need proper protection equipment. I feel like that shouldn’t be a debatable position either. So far, the US government hasn’t aided hospitals in obtaining either.
  3. Trump’s response to this pandemic is easily the biggest failure we’ve ever seen from a President. We’ve had a lot of bad presidents, but Trump’s in a league of his own here.
  4. I’m glad we’re stockpiling unproven treatments instead of the medical supplies we actually need.
  5. Man, California rarely gets April snowstorms, but we’re getting a massive one (at least for SoCal) this week. However, all the resorts are closed, so they can’t cash in on it (and skiers can’t ski). It’s really sad because this may have been the longest ski season in SoCal in the 21st century. We got snow in early November, and the mountains have had enough since then.
  6. Speaking of humour, we really need to record a podcast, and we already missed April Fools, so no fake topics
  7. So I’ve been on sprint break all week, which has basically meant I watch a few videos and spend the rest of my days updating my results collection (as well as my “cool shit” collection (things like spectator guides, posters, random artwork, mascots, etc.). This week I’ve managed to archive the results from the 2015 Pan Am Games, 2010 and 2013 CISM Winter Military Games, 2012 Winter YOG, and half of the 2015 Parapan American Games (before web archive decided to take a giant puke on itself). Now I’m working on the 2010 Summer YOG, and it’s so funny to see how far we’ve come in ten years. First off there’s no mention of “urban” sports. Plus, the website was actually geared education, having fun, etc. (instead of being a stereotypical multi-sports website like Lausanne2020). But the thing that caught my attention the most was the section for 2010 YOG Mascot MSN emoticons . We’ve really come a long ways just based off that. To be honest, I’m not even quite sure what MSN is...(but I know it was popular when I was younger).
  8. I’m not saying Hawaii can’t compete, but if their going to, then the rest of the US should be allowed to compete as well
  9. What a criminal You have to wonder how many people watched this video, and then carried a salmon suspiciously around London.
  10. Right, but that’s what the Island Games are for... I think the Pacific Games should be reserved for Oceanic countries, free association territories, or dependencies which are self-governing and part of another country.
  11. Here in California it seems like our winter can late. The last month has just been rainstorm after rainstorm The snowpack is great, but all the resorts are closed
  12. Yeah, Hawaii definitely shouldn’t be competing because it’s a whole ass state, but I’ll let the PGC do what they want.
  13. We don’t really have a national song in the US (at least not that I can think of). We’re pretty sectarian when it comes to sports, so generally songs are associated with certain regions/teams. In terms of Olympic theme songs, we have some great ones: And every Olympics begins and ends with a full play through of this melody:
  14. I have a small hill (250/300ft elevation difference) about 2.5 miles away from me. It’s a local landmark, and I’ve run up and down it over 200 times. Besides that, my town is surrounded by foothills (and a 2/3 mountain ranges) in the north/south/east/southwest. The Tour of California used to go through those foothills on the way to Mt. Baldy. There’s a place where I run where there’s a bunch of 500/600m tall foothills to run all around on. I love hill running and exploring, so it’s perfect for me.
  15. Interesting, they used the French flag when they competed in Barranquilla. I wonder if they’ll switch over now? I’m not really in favor of them completing since their actually a full part of the French Republic, but whatever.
  16. Ooohh, nothing gets @Olympian1010 attention quicker than a language discussion.
  17. Well technically their flag is the French tricolor. There are a full part (department/state/province/prefecture (don’t know the nomenclature here)) of the French Republic.
  18. Your photo is 1.72kB over the allowable limit. Ive had some issues with photo size to recently, but @Sindo reasoning for the limit is understandable.
  19. We watched it religiously for a many years, but the last few seasons just haven’t interest me at all. Hopefully I’m able to get back into it at some.
  20. We family has been making a lot of survivor jokes lately. The longer we’re in isolation, the closer we get to a season of survivor. Before you know it people will be hiding toilet paper, sneaking extras rations of food (though we’re not rationing food currently, so there’s a long way to go to get there), voting each out of the house, etc. My favorite players are Russel and Tony, so my family should definitely be concerned
