  1. @Nickyc707 I believe the Barbadian was the first Olympian to die from Covid-19. I think more than a few already have...
  2. I will never agree with this. If suppressing the rights of everyone is your prefect vision of government, then you are a severely fucked up person. I’d be careful what you wish for. The periods after pandemics like the Spanish Flu, Black Death, etc. are known for their extreme social reforms and liberalism.
  3. I really hope these restrictive and limiting measures that many nations are passing don’t cause a bigger crisis down the line. Plus, we’re seeing governments using this as a way to increase their power in many parts of the world. I’m increasing worried about the social aspects of this disease.
  4. Yeah I understand that. A lot of people outside academia hated the movie because it was too confusing. I don’t actually think a movie needs action to be good, a lot of my favorite don’t have serious action. I don’t need a fight scene to keep me entertained Interstellar actually uses one of the same principles as Arrival, which is non-linear time. Essentially time moves in a circular pattern, and everything we do in the past, present, and future is already predetermined and unchangeable (expect that Interstellar argues that it is). Everything happens for a reason, and people should do what they can to give to the greater good of their species. While Interstellar falls apart on some of its principles, Arrival is unique in that is so principled that it could almost be classified as scientific theory. Arrival doesn’t attempt to break the rules for the sake of plot like a lot of sci-fi movies do, which is why I think it’s much better than the other two. Arrival isn’t actually based that much on hard science either because it pulls most of it’s material from the social sciences. The film is modeled around theories like Sapir-Wharf (essentially language is in-permanent, ever changing, and doesn’t actually mean shit (except to those it means something to). I just think it’s a well made film, in an era of film where it’s about big budget fights, copy-paste plots, cool visual effects, and sexual tension. The film largely does away with those things, and remains a masterpiece in practical story telling. While the story itself seems rather unbelievable to most people, it’s actually more believable than something like Inception, or Planet of the Apes, or the Shape of Water, etc. All films that have received more credit because they drop the reality of their material to satisfy a larger audience that doesn’t want their beliefs challenged. I will say that from a critical perspective, I see Arrival and Interstellar as equals, with the likes of Inception not too far behind.
  5. I never understood what people had against it. There are very few films that push the boundaries of the human mind more than that one, and the other films that have are now well loved cult “classics” (Inception, Interstellar).
  6. I don’t watch much sports outside of multi-sports games, so it does for me . I probably watch a competition or two every week, but that’s about it. I go all in on multi-sports games, so these changes do mean a lot for the few us who love multi-sports games. Like you said though, there is another way to look at this. 2022, 2023 are going to be jam-packed years of multi-sports games.
  7. So it seems like my worst nightmares about moving Tokyo 2020 are coming true . Two years of boring nothing (I guess we get one Olympics, so yay )
  8. Organizations that are helpful (and on my good side): FISU, GAISF, MicroPulse. Organizations that suck ass and that are dead to me: CIJM, Qatar NOC, Tissot, CISM, and MSL (who apparently doesn’t even exist anymore )
  9. Most of the “A” athletes didn’t prefer to take part in 2018 either
  10. They had the perfect time window, so I really don’t understand this move.
  11. I think they should just move games exactly one week forward. It’s the perfect window for the games, and a great appetizer for Tokyo2020.
  12. No, no one wants to be in Birmingham to begin with, let alone in December
  13. I actually read they Inferno. I really loved the ideas it presented, even if my own views of the subject conflict with Dante’s. The Iliad/Odessey I read when I was 12 (I think). I enjoyed them too, but I really enjoyed Greek mythology, so that wasn’t a surprise to people that knew me. I haven’t really heard of the other books you mentioned, but I should checkout some Russian literature at one point.
  14. Ooh, I love the concept of that book. I’m not the biggest Stephen King fan, but the concept is really fun (though reminiscent of the Hunger Games).
  15. I’ve never left the cinema with the same feeling ever again. The score in this movie is so damn hauntingly beautiful. The acting is so believable. The story is mind-blowing (so much so to where people are still debating it to this day). While the movie is based on a “first contact” scenario, it’s actually more based around the idea of perception. Plus, I can’t think of many movies that involve aliens, where they don’t try to kill us or whatnot. I do think that you have to enjoy language, science, philosophy, and have a lot of open-mindedness to really enjoy this film though. I don’t think it’s for everyone. I should’ve cleaned at all the awards shows and it didn’t.
  16. I’ve tried and tired, but I haven’t found much besides the ceremonies for Ashgabat2017. I could write the ISB for you to see if they can release some, but I bet they can’t help. I have no clue about 2013. I start looking around tomorrow (you caught just as I was going to sleep). I do have the Mediterranean Games. Here is a playlist of the events broadcasted by TAC12 (and some other events broadcast elsewhere, that were uploaded to YouTube by other users.): The Olympic Channel also has a great selection of replays. However, you probably won’t find anything if you search 2018 Mediterranean Games. You have search stuff like “ Canoe Finals Day 3” or “Swimming Day 2”. 2017 Summer Deaflympics (broadcast quality gets better after the first few videos): 2017 Pacific Mini Games (streams are a little out of order (sorry)): I have many other options as well, just like me know if there’s anything else you want. I’ll check up on the 2013 AIMAG for you.
  17. ITG dropping a lot of (at least to my knowledge) unconfirmed information about the 2021 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in this article. Apparently the dates have been set: April 24 - May 5 (which oddly enough conflicts with the World Combat Games scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan next year, that features some of the same sports (and would probably feature many of the same athletes)). Sports Program has also been decided: Bowling, Cue Sports (Billiard Sports), Dancesport, e-Sports, Floorball, Futsal, Indoor Athletics, Muaythai (what a surprise ), Netball, Sepaktakraw, Short Course Swimming (25m pool), and Taekwondo. I don’t know if this is the final program because the sports program has not yet been officially confirmed by the OCA (at least to my knowledge). Oceanian NOCs will be invited to participate once again (I do think this has been confirmed by the OCA).
  18. I was just surfing the OCA website and saw some sad news. Iranian weightlifter Daniel Gevargiznejad (1970 Asian Games silver-medalist, 1968 Olympics participant) passed away. I didn’t say if Covid-19 was the cause or not.
