  1. The problem is that my work focus on everything but the Olympics, so a lot of these organizations aren’t interested. Plus the majority of it is quite modern, so they don’t see the purpose of preserving it. There seems to be a wired gap in the international sports movement when it comes to multi-sports games. Some NOCs and IFs have done a good job documenting some of the games, but there’s almost nothing available for others still. It’s a weird issue honestly. @heywoodu and @Vojthas gave me some good advice earlier today too. I just need to slow down, continue my work, and keep networking. I need to continue my discussion with LA84 (even if I’m 90% it will be fruitless) and I should probably reach out to the Olympic Library. I really like the suggestions you’ve made as well. I don’t think the NASSH can do much for me, but there’s some interesting links on their website that I can investigate further. My goal wasn’t ever to become a amateur sports historian/archivist/whatever, but I seem to slowly be becoming one accidentally. The biggest plus is that my reporting is highly informed, and I love a lot of material to call back on.
  2. I swear this only gets harder. Many of files seem to be too big for Internet Archive. I’ve spent the last two days downloading and cataloging more files than I can count, and I still have nowhere for them to go! I think the best thing to do would be to actually try and set up my own digital library or online space for people to view my work (and add it, to use it reference, etc.). I don’t have the money or skill to do that, and now I’m left wishing I hadn’t done any of this in the first place. I feel like preserving the history of international multi-sports games is somewhat important, and that there’s no one doing it (including the federations and organizations themselves) is quite frustrating honestly. Maybe I’m just an idiot, I don’t know. I’m just frustrated and ready to give up on it at this point.
  3. I’ve found it extremely difficult to upload documents to Internet Archive. It seems like any file over 5MB is virtually impossible to upload (at least currently). Yeah, I don’t want to deal with Wikipedia because the bureaucracy of what information is classified as “important.” I have no damn clue about LA84.
  4. I want to be clear that I never said there was enough ventilators, or that every person should have one. I also never said that wearing a mask was a bad thing. This pandemic is fascinating from a social sciences perspective. I’ve never seen societal chaos such as this virus is bringing.
  5. I thought the Chinese government could essentially just shutdown the economy...I thought I read something about them doing during a depression a few years ago.
  6. Alright, well I’ve found a few options for my collection. Internet Archive seems like a risky move @Griff88. You seem to know a bit about that organization, so maybe you could give me some insight into what it does, and how to use it (for archiving information, not pulling PDFs off (I already figured that out a year ago)). LA84 Library seems like the best place low key, but I haven’t heard back from them. I’m not big on unnecessary work, so I think Wikipedia is out. There’s some other avenues I’m exploring, but that’s about it
  7. Doesn’t the Chinese economy have a kill switch?
  8. Just took a while to play around in web archive, and wow am I dumb! There’s a useful tool. I’m a stupid, stupid person. I should have been doing this from day one
  9. I have started the process of saving pages in web archive, since there’s a severe need there. I just don’t have the money to pay for storage in multiple places. I’m hopeful they’ll find a home (besides my cloud, which is their forever home) soon enough. Hopefully the LA84 people get back to me. I’ve had a few other doors opened to me as well.
  10. I would suck if you’re a person, and a country purposely released a virus that harms people...(again, not that I but into the China theory at all (yet)).
  11. Damn, sex workers get that big money
  12. I mean, I don’t think the Western World would have a choice at that point...
  13. Oh hell yeah. We boycotted the Soviets over harming their own people. I’m sure as hell we’d boycott China. However, I’ve yet to be convinced that China purposely created the virus and unleashed it purposefully on the world.
  14. @Dennis Just wanted to catch up with you and hear how you’re doing.
  15. Trump aims to reopen American by May 1st (for states that still take orders from him) Can him, Bolsonaro, and Duterte just fuck off already.
  16. Ooh, I used to love that movie as a kid. I assumed red squirrel, but I was hoping for something exotic
  17. There’s also a shortage of supply (still). So we should prioritize our response. Doctors, Nurses, health workers, and those infected should get first dibs. Once there’s enough supply people should be asked to wear them. Dutch and California seem to get their information from the same experts @heywoodu
  18. I also blame required reading for why I lost my love literature. I also just think cinema is just more appealing, but I digress. There were books I hated, and books I loved in my elevated high school classes (classes that gave college credit if you passed a big test at the end of the year). My required reading (that I can remember) was: Fahrenheit 451, Ella Minnow Pea, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Things Fall Apart, 1984, Animal Farm, The Great Gadsby, Scarlet Letter, Oedipus Rex, Romeo and Juliet, MacBeth, Hamlet, Allegory of the Cave, The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Odyssey, Old Man and the Sea, Doll’s House, Heart of Darkness, Mythology, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, This I Believe, Much Ado About Nothing, Of Mice and Men, The Catcher and the Rye, Metamorphosis, Modest Proposal, Nickel and Dimed, and some others probably. All of these books, stories, etc. are great. I just wish I would have been allowed to choose which of them I actually wanted to read
  19. Well shit, now I have to read that before the 2022 Mediterranean Games so I can reference that. Thanks a lot
  20. I’m going to lead a crusade against required reading one of these days
  21. That’s mandatory high school reading in the US. Luckily, I’m a smarty, so I don’t have to read books to pass a test. I am very familiar with the plot however.
  22. What type of squirrel is that?
  23. This is quickly becoming the go to protest action across the Americas. I’ve even seen some liberals here in the US adopting this lately to show Pan American unity.
  24. I do The problem comes to where the PDF link is hosted. I don’t want people snooping around my account. I have things besides my collection saved. I actually have stuff spread across three accounts in terms of my collection. I also began using Web Archive to save stuff for later
