  1. If the IOC was willing to accept additional quotas, then they could use a modified version of the PanamSports model. 16 fencers from teams (2 from each), and then 16 individual fencers per event. That would be a reduction of 2 quotas per individual event, but you’d actually end up with more countries competing, and possibly better individual competitions.
  2. I too see a Mixed Weapon Team Event (either by gender, or mixed) as a possible alternative, but I know there’s a lot of resistance to something like that within the Fencing community.
  3. Right, the team events severely limit participation in Fencing. If the FIE/IOC wanted to increase participation, they’d have to reform how quotas are distributed for teams events, or drop the team events all together.
  4. They also get the most quotas per individual event of any combat sport though. Karate has 10, Wrestling and Taekwondo have 16, Boxing has between 16-28, and Judo has 19+ (generally some where in the mid/upper 20s). Fencing gets 34 quotas per individual event.
  5. This is another option I brought up to solve both issues I have with the current system in my first post. It’s worth noting that many multi-juries already do a similar process to determine National entry selection.
  6. Well, my other problem with how multi-jury votes are tabulated is the “tie-break decided by random draw.” So for instance, if I give Tunisia 10 points and Dez’s gives them 0, but in turn gives Ireland 10 points while I give them zero, the song which gets higher points in the combined total is decided by random chance. I feel like multi-juries should have the right to decide how those ties are broken. Like if Dez and I can come to mutual agreement about which song deserves 7 in the combined points, and which deserves 6 points then we should be allowed to make that distinction.
  7. That’s cool with me as well. And just to clarify, this would be the change I’d vote in favor of at the moment: ”Something else that could remedy that particular problem would to first rank all songs voted for by all members of the jury, and then rank songs according to points gained from a single jury member.” I’d also suggest that receive points from a single jury and reserve status from the other are also given precedence over a song that only gets points from one jury member...
  8. Well my suggestions are for all multi-juries, not just the ones with 4+ members or whatever the last amendment vote was about.
  9. So it might be time to discuss/vote on amendments to how multi-jury points are tabulated @OlympicIRL
  10. That’s kind of how it is for me. I have a good working knowledge of all the Olympic sports, but I don’t feel qualified to make a prediction about medal winners in many of the sports.
  11. For those interested, ODESUR has been posting various full session replays on their Twitter. Lately they’ve posted replays from Santiago 2014, Santiago 2017, Cochabamba 2018, and Lima 2019. Here’s one they posted a couple days ago. This is part of their ODESUR TV initiative I think. They stream mostly on Twitter through Periscope. However, Periscope is shutting down soon according to their website, so I have no clue what ODESUR will do in the future.
  12. Just to be clear, that’s not I was saying at all. I was just talking about decisions in similar legal matters recently. I think it’s very clear from the comments on here, and elsewhere online, that fans are not supportive of this idea.
  13. Right, I was just highlighting that similar cases (even if on a much smaller scale then this one) haven’t played out well for international federations recently.
  14. Especially when the ISU recently lost a case of similar nature. I believe FINA has had similar troubles preventing swimmers from competing in the ISL as well.
