  1. Don’t know if anyone else has visited/noticed this yet, but it looks interesting. Link: https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/en/fanzone/
  2. @intoronto Do you know how the spots were assigned? To me, it seems like they should have asked for preliminary entries and then just made cuts if needed (in this case as qualifiers weren’t possible).
  3. This is what Evan Dunfee said in response to the debate over vaccinating Canadian athletes (with priority). I think it gives some good insight into how many athletes are thinking/feeling right now. (It’s a thread, so you might have to click on it to see the whole thing).
  4. Are there still quotas left to be allocated? If so, does anyone know what the procedure is or what countries are in line to receive them?
  5. I also think the difficulty of the Olympic Games in canoe slalom is relative to how you view it. Yes, there are less competitors than WC or EC, but that also means that’s it’s even tougher to make it (qualify) to the start line. Plus, there’s the added pressure of being your country’s sole representative. I’d love to see more athletes in each event, but that’s just not a realistic possibility at the moment. Hopefully C2 will be given a chance to return in some form down the line because that was a fun event to watch.
  6. US and Canada have played all their matches, so their fate will be determined by the outcome of v. and v.
  7. Here’s the current situation heading into the last two draws. So far have guaranteed a quota place.
  8. Rowing uses their single sculls event as a universality event. I don’t actually think it’s a bad idea. I think it’s led to the growth of the sport in some ways. We had like 10 nations compete in rowing at the African Games, and that’s pretty awesome. Pan American Games enjoyed a good participation rate too.
  9. Here’s the highlights of the first five minutes of last night’s game...
  10. Thread about some interesting changes proposed by ISU Council and ISU Members.
  11. I was referring to the work of the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation, which was founded by World Taekwondo. Website: https://thfaid.org They’ve done some incredible work with refugees, and there’s hope that some of the athletes from these programs will be able to compete at the international elite level some time in the near future. I do apologize for the confusion though, I should have been more specific in my original post.
  12. That is absolutely the problem. Judo, Taekwondo, and Karate all have a strong digital presence. They all have fairly well marketed World Cup series. In the case of Taekwondo, they’ve also done fantastic work with their refugee outreach program, which has gotten international attention.
  13. According to the ICF, this will be the first time participates in Canoe Sprint.
  14. Rangers fined $250,000. Here’s the statement that got them in trouble.
  15. That’s what I was thinking as well. In theory that could work (assuming the total of swimming quotas haven’t been reached), but obviously that would lead to some very upset swimmers (and understandably so if they stand to receive one of those quotas), so I’m not sure how practical that solution would be.
  16. Definitely recommend giving this article a read.
  17. From the reporting I’ve read, there were positive cases identified amongst the broadcast staff.
  18. www.olympicchannel.com is no more! As has been teased for months, the IOC has revamped their web/online presence. You can access the new website here: https://olympics.com/en/ The web design/UI has been completely revamped. The website is split into different sections for the Olympic Channel, Olympic Museum, IOC (Institutional), Athlete 365 (IOC’s Athlete Portal/Hub), and Olympic Studies Center (which has retained it’s old website for the time being, so that page gives background info and offers a link). That should cover the major changes, but I could’ve missed some things.
  19. So peaceful they don’t have a standing army They also have a very good education system (from my understanding) as an added bonus. Generally enjoy high rankings in press freedom, democratic stability, and general happiness as well.
  20. Whelp, brief intermission in qualification races for the Single Mixed Relay...
  21. Poor exchange might have cost another quota
