Lambie only started riding track in 2017. He isn't a high-level bunch racer on the track and the only Tokyo 2020 event he'd have been picked for would have been the team pursuit (which the US men did not qualify for).
 
As for Ganna - don't forget he also cracked a rib the other day. He was set for last Sunday's Chrono des Nations but pulled out to focus on these championships.

Today was a horror show for the South Korean men, by the way. A few falls and penalties.

Possibly, although she would have lost those sprint heats with any gears, she simply looked away in the decider. Sort of like Uran against Vinokourov in the 2012 Olympic road race, although in this case it was just a bad mistake instead of Vinokourov offering a bag of money

Reading this makes me feel like this student who's struggling to have decent grades, and hears this other guy (who always get excellent ones) moaning about how he failed last test (spoiler alert : he didn't) 
Your women's team is basically Kim Boutin and girls whose 500m record is below 43s, which is not an easy feature, with much more experience than what their age could indicate. Charles and Sarault were already on WC podiums 2 or 3 years ago, and Brunelle, although she's still only 17, has reached two top 10 in the last World Champs. Men's team got Charles Hamelin and also Dubois and Dion, the other guys are strong enough to make a relay able to qualify. 
Not getting all the quotas would be a crime with such a team ... but if you feel they're not experienced enough, send some here to grab it, they all speak French so it won't be hard to adapt 
 
I'm quite intrigued by China though. They will not take part to the other 3 WC, so unless all 3 of them reach, at least, the semi-finals in each race, they could have trouble getting full quotas. They're already granted participation in the relays and 1 athlete in individual events, but I guess it has extended to 3 since they've decided not to go abroad

One of many ... France didn't field any TS in major championships recently, and it's not going to change. Because even if you do find a third sprinter, the level drop is way too important. 
 
Since Tokyo was held in 2021, there is not much time left to adapt for Paris 2024, and the format requires strong adaptations. The "finisher" has to cover 750m when the longest distance a female sprinter can run is 500m (there is no such thing as a +2 laps full sprint in the individual events), so for this particular role you will need a resistant sprinter. Then the 2-riders format force the team to make a choice between a strong TS and strong individuals, in Tokyo China chose to have the first, Germany the second. In order to field both Friedrich and Hinze, Germany had to make one of them a starter, who could be better elsewhere. On the men's side the first one is now nearly systematically a specialist, could be the same for women ... or we'll have a 3-laps specialist to anchor. Yesterday for Russia Tyschenko was clearly better than Shmeleva in this position. 

Bon, belle performance quand même, autant ce soir que sur l'ensemble du tournoi. On est la seule équipe perdante à prendre un set sur ces quarts (contre le plus gros morceau en plus). 
On en viendrait presque à être déçu, on revient à 19-18 en fin de 2ème set et la grosse série au service qui met fin à la forme et aux espoirs français ... il y a clairement un manque de densité, autant physique que dans la profondeur de banc, mais ça peut jouer à un très bon niveau et tenir la dragée haute à la Serbie 
Après forcément quand dans le troisième set la moitié de l'équipe est constitué de joueuses qui gagnent 2 matchs par an en Ligue A c'est un peu léger. Et malheureusement y'aura pas tant d'occasions que ça de jouer des équipes de cet acabit d'ici 2024. Il faut espérer une belle progression de nos cadres (et de toute l'équipe) en Italie et ailleurs, et de grosses phases de travail en collectif pour compenser le déficit individuel sur le top niveau.
Sinon une qui m'a impressionné, je ne la connaissais même pas de nom avant l'Euro, c'est Rotar, 15 points aujourd'hui, éclipsée par Gicquel et Cazaute médiatiquement (pour le peu que ça constitue) mais elle a été sacrément solide sur ces phases finales. Globalement le souci français n'est pas vraiment en attaque.

Pour le hockey masculin les perspectives sont quand même plus encourageantes. L'effectif est mixte entre de très jeunes joueurs et des cadres qui arriveront à maturité en 2024 (genre 30-32 ans). Le Championnat d'Europe avait lieu en juin et s'est fini à la 6ème place avec 3 défaites en poule mais des résultat de bonne facture contre des équipes qui ont été performantes à Tokyo : défaite sèche contre les PB mais rageante contre l'Allemagne (4ème au Japon) avec un +2 à la mi-temps et +1 à 6 minutes du terme, victoire contre le bourreau espagnol quart de finaliste à Tokyo.
Bref il va surtout falloir aller chercher la qualification pour les Mondiaux 2023 en octobre histoire de garder la bonne dynamique.
 
Force est de constater aussi que l'Equipe qui nous tanne avec les sports co est une frauduleusement à côté de la plaque et n'oeuvre pas du tout à la reconnaissance de ce sport (malgré la retransmission sur leur site), aucun article sur ces championnats, aucun sur celui terminé par les Françaises, deux brèves pendant les J.O ... du coup on a des experts qui viennent rire du sacre belge, réclamer la disparition de ce sport historique du programme olympique au profit du karaté (jamais compris la logique de déshabiller Paul pour habiller Jacques, idem le canoë n'est pas responsable des manoeuvre politiciennes d'Estanguet). S'ils savaient comment on considère notre sacro-saint handball dans le Commonwealth 

Bon sinon deux équipes qui risquent de passer un sale quart d'heure à Paris (d'autant plus en comparaison des autres) sont aux prises en ce moment.
 
Volley féminin : premier match perdu mais un set pris à la Russie et un rendu globalement positif à mon goût ... le match contre la Serbie m'a fait remettre les pieds sur Terre. La différence de niveau est abyssale , à chaque attaque française t'en es réduit à prier pour que ça passe, mais non le bloc est toujours là et il gène à chaque fois. La réception est terriblement défaillante, forcément avec des passeuses de seconde zone et des attaquantes de bon niveau sans plus tu mets pas en danger la Serbie. Les temps-morts font mal à voir, l'impression que le coach apprend la réalité du niveau international aux joueuses (des trucs tout con quoi, c'est assez déprimant). Et quand tu vois que les jeunes évoluent au centre fédéral qui se prend taule sur taule en D1 française, qui n'est déjà pas une ligue d'élite ... au moins elles découvrent le haut-niveau.
Bref, la Serbie c'est le niveau moyen des équipes qu'il y aura aux J.O, autant dire qu'il faudra espérer faire bonne figure tout au plus. Une victoire semble illusoire, un tie-break ? (vous me direz une fois à 2-2 pourquoi ne pas gagner ?) 
 
Hockey féminin : probablement l'équipe qui part le plus de nul part. Il me semble avoir lu un récap en 2017 mentionnant les espoirs des EDF en sports co (si quelqu'un l'a, 20 minutes je crois), pour cette équipe ça parlait carrément de naturaliser de la Batave en masse comme seul échappatoire. Force est de constater qu'il y a de le progression (pas difficile mais après les résultats de Tokyo on se dit que ça aurait pu être makach). Elles finissent le Championnat d'Europe B à la 2ème place (donc 10ème équipe européenne), battues par la Biélorussie vaincue en poule. Lors de la précédente édition elles évoluaient encore en Ligue C et quand on voit le tarif pris par la Lituanie qui est montée avec elles il y a vraiment du mieux. Normalement elles auraient dû monter en Ligue A mais le format a changé donc il faudra gagner sa place ... difficile donc de jauger la différence de niveau avec le gotha mondial mais les championnes olympiques néerlandaises ont atomisé la fin de tableau du tournoi A. 
L'équipe est très jeune alors que le hockey est quand même un sport où l'expérience est importante, à tout le moins pas handicapante (un peu moins chez les filles que chez les garçons). Et finalement assez peu de joueuses d'outre-Belgique, une seule réellement "naturalisée" avec une Allemande, plus une autre qui est arrivée en France à 5 ans. Bref pas grand chose à attendre en 2024, d'aucuns diraient 2028 avec optimisme mais ne poussons pas le bouchon trop loin.

3/10 Poor, but not completely awful as one could have feared at some point during the games thanks to the last week-end. The overall number of medals is a major disappointment (worst total tied with Athens since 1992), but the number of golds (and thus our ranking in the medals table) is around what was expected.
 
Obviously, with Paris as the next host, one would have assume that we would have been on the rise before our home games like previously hosts were. But it was never going to happen : overall, we had a poor qualification run and probably had a worst team with less potential medallists than in Rio.
 
2. What were the surprises and  heartbreaks ?
 
The surprises have been few. The biggest one being Romain Cannone ranked world number 47 or something and eventually gold medallist in fencing. Team sports have also been incredible successful with 6 medals and 3 golds with only the 3*3 women basketball team being a let down. The men's volleyball team gold seem to me like the biggest surprise any french NT ever achieved during the olympics (possibly tied with the men's handball bronze in 1992)
 
Heartbreaks ? So many... Just on the top of my head: Vincent Luis (Triathlon), Herbert-Mahut (tennis), the men's épée team, the men and particularly the women MTB team, Vincent Daudet (BMX), Benjamin Thomas (Omnium) Marc Antoine Olivier (OW swimming), Valentin Prades (Pentathlon) ...  Major contenders for gold who all failed to reach their objective and even worst to even secure a podium, which largely explains why we didn't achieve as many medals as we are used to.
 
Cycling have once again been the major disappointment of the french team. They were expecting 6 medals and are leaving Tokyo with 2 bronze... At some point, you can't blame everything on 'bad luck". There is something wrong here, that need to be fixed ASAP.
 
Contrary to Rio with boxing and athletics (6 medals each), we didn't have any sport really overperforming. Judo (8 medals) and fencing (5) have been by far our main medals factories, but that was expected and I don't think such level of success was out of reach prior to the olympics.
 
As I've said on the other thread, what worries me the most is that once again we have failed to match our results from the previous world championships during the olympics. 
 
3.Was your country's goal achieved? 
 
Nothing was set in stone, but the discussion was about 40 medals. So, no.
 
4. Which are the sports that will be invested more in future?
 
Not one in particular, but it seems that the money will be less spread accros sports and that we are moving slowly to an athlete-per-athlete approach.

3/3 de nos équipes masculines en finale, incroyable  Heureusement que les sports co sont là !

Straightforward thanks to a very partial reffing. Hard to fight back when pretty much every decision is going the other way. Easy contests given to NZ (albeit not releasing here and there), never to France, offside with no ruck ...
Kudos to the Black Ferns, can't say they don't deserve it, but once again I feel like we were not given the chance to actually win a final.

He's already the current Youth Olympic champion in the PV. Has been focusing on the combined events recently at higher level though he almost only takes part to PV competitions throughout the year.

With Samba nowhere to be seen this year he's the clear favorite for bronze along with Kyron McMaster. I guess he's still searching for his ideal race scheme, in Walnut where he did 47.68, he had a very conservative start (21.5 at hurdle 5). Then in Doha where he did 47.57, he blasted off from the start (20.8 at H5). I think the best is coming.

Bon finalement, avant la fin de la fenêtre de qualification :
100m : Que penser de Vicaut ? Je pense quand même qu'il sera sélectionné. Fall est qualifiable via le ranking sur 100 et 200, probablement sélectionné sur 200 donc peut-être sur la ligne droite par extension. Zahi et Ombissa (ranking) sont assez loin des standards internationaux du coup ... (2 à 4).
200m : Lemaitre, Michael Zézé, Fall et John qualifiables au ranking, à mon avis seul Fall sera pris. Joseph a fait les minimas même si France moyens, Zahi rentrera peut-être au ranking. (1 à 2 puisque Fall déjà compté).
400m : Jordier est normalement safe au ranking malgré sa DSQ. Brossier in, Guei à la limite mais ça devrait passer au ranking et sélectionnée si tel est le cas à mon avis (2 ou 3).
800m : Robert et Tual ok, Bosse ? Lamote ok. (3 à 4).
1500m : Mischler, Miellet et Habz in. (3).
5000m : Hay et Gressier. (2)
10000m : Amdouni. (1).
100/110m haies : Belocian et Manga ok, PML ? D'après mes calculs Bascou rentrerait tout juste dans les 40 qualifiables, donc alternative éventuelle si forfait de PML. Samba-Mayela + Valette au ranking. (5).
400m haies : Vaillant a les minimas même si petite forme, Happio ranking ça devrait le faire. (2).
3000m steeple : Phelut et Bedrani in, Gilavert ou MMB ? Palou passe tout près des minimas mais son "raté" ce week-end va sans doute lui coûter sa place au ranking. (3).
Perche : Les Lavillenie et Cormont. (3).
Longueur : Bey via le ranking, David a confirmé une forme correcte et a les minimas. (2).
Triple : Pontvianne et Raffin minimas, Compaoré au ranking. Diallo minimas. (4).
Disque : Djouhan et MRM minimas. (2).
Marteau : Bigot et Tavernier minimas. (2).
Décathlon : Mayer. (1).

as many already know  imho many of the listed activities are not even to be considered "sports" and should all be thrown off the Games...
 
Artistic Swimming, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Trampoline, Park Skateboarding are just a few of them...
 
and I'd happily get rid of quite a few other sports from the current schedule...
 
but the poll is about 1 and only 1 sport to be removed...so, I picked the best "example" of non-sport activity (and the most boring to me)...Artistic Swimming, of course...
