rafalgorka reacted to OlympicsFan in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
18) My prediction would be: Ledecky and Titmus will fight for gold, bronze is very open (Anderson, Pellegrini, Sjöstrom (if she swims it), Haughey, Ikee, Oleksiak, Ruck, McKeon, Schmitt, 2 chinese girls)
19) Milak ahead of Urlando and Seto (or maybe LeClos/Kenderesi)
20) Hosszu ahead of 2 out of Ohashi/Baker/Margalis/Walsh/Ye Shiwen
21) Ledecky ahead of Quadarella and Köhler or one of the chinese girls
22) USA, Japan, Russia, GB and Australia are all very close, so too close to call ...
-
rafalgorka reacted to OlympicsFan in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
About your swimming predictions: I would say that they look pretty good, but i think the US will win a medal in women's 400 IM and i also think Hagino and/or an american guy not named Litherland will win a medal in men's 400 IM.
-
rafalgorka reacted to OlympicsFan in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
2) I would be very surprised if the US would finish ahead of China and Japan.
8) Would be quite funny if Deguchi would steal the gold medal from a japanese girl in front of her home crowd.
16) I don't see Australia beating Brazil (or even Italy).
-
rafalgorka reacted to OlympicsFan in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
1) Not sure Japan is more likely to win bronze than China/Italy ... ?
6) I don't follow dressage closely, but is the US really more likely to win silver than GB or the Netherlands?
11) I am absolutely sure that Germany will win a medal, probably even gold.
14) They first two look pretty solid, but i don't agree about Lewis. I think there are multiple guys (for example Scott) who are more likely to win bronze.
15) Definitely a good prediction, although i feel that at least one out of Ruck/Baker will medal.
16) Another good prediction, but pretty bold to not predict a medal for Murphy. Personally i would like to see Irie winning a medal at home.

American team has become useless this year. It's much more likely that Denmark will be on the podium (either silver or bronze).
-
rafalgorka reacted to heywoodu in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
This course is most likely too hard for Trentin, it's not just hilly, it's basically mountaineous..of course there are plenty of options left, like you said, everything is possible in men's road races
-
rafalgorka reacted to Giovanni Gianni Cattaneo in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
-In cycling, men's road race, everithing it's possible. Italy have good chances, with Trentin, WC silver medallist and european champion, and Nibali, probably gold in Rio without fall down.
- In taekwondo, Vito dell'Aquila's silver is rigth, but have minimum 40% for gold.
-In mixed Archery, Nespoli/Landi are a good good team. Gold is hard, but not impossible.
- In men's individual sabre, Curatoli (n.3 WR and bronze in WC) and Samele are in good position. Maybe both are out at the first round, maybe both in medal.
- In the women's epee there are Navarria, WC 2018, and Fiamingo, two times WC and silver medal in Rio. In 2019 Worldcup, they were focused on team competition, so have a bad ranking. But in Tokyo, they are among the favorites.
So, at the end of day1, i think italy has minimum 1 gold medal.:
Ciclyng road 15%
taekwondo 40%
Mixed archery 20%
FEncing men individual sabre 25%
fencing women epee 45%

rafalgorka got a reaction from Fly_like_a_don in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
This is interesting. I don't feel my predictions in some sports are strong, because to be honest I watch some of them only once in 4 years. But I know Team India is very strong in shooting.
And making predictions in weightlifting is extremely difficult. Only 4 per gender and these numbers are even more limited for some countries because of anti-doping violations.

rafalgorka reacted to heywoodu in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
Yes that's what I meant, the latest 'news' (mostly from last year) is about him having made the choice for MTB and not the road race. Possibly the current situation changes something, but for now - to the best of our knowledge - that's still the plan.
-
rafalgorka reacted to heywoodu in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
Yes. Things might change a little now that it's moved to 2021, in which he was supposed to go for the Tour de France I think, but Olympic MTB gold is his main big goal for now at least.
-
rafalgorka reacted to heywoodu in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
He would be able to start, yes, but fighting for medals in a road race and two days later a MTB race? That's just not possible, especially in the men's field. He won't do it anyway, he already confirmed that last year
-
rafalgorka reacted to LDOG in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
The skeet, clearly. They have 2 of the best 3/4 shooters IMO (world ranking doesn't mean much in this sport).

rafalgorka reacted to Siddhartha Talukdar in Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened
The Indian men's Archery team reaching the final was a miracle and totally unexpected. Don't think it will be repeated in Olympics. My predictions for this event are 1. South Korea 2. Chinese Taipei 3. China
