Looks like Gorbenko peaked at the Mare Nostrum competition this year. She's out of the 400m IM final. So is last years world championship bronze medallist Forrester.

Summer McIntosh with a very relaxed 4:37.75 swim. Finishes 3rd and qualifies for the final. Ella Jansen finishes 4:42.06 for 11th place. Given her form this season, it's a solid showing from her.

At the end of the day, not everything is going to go your way. It's something that everybody (even the US) deals with. You just got to take it in, accept it, and then move on from it. It's better to focus on the positive results and inspiring stories to come from these games imo.

Since nobody mentioned him yet, just want to give a mention to Tomoyuki Matsushita who set a PB by 1.5 seconds to get silver behind Marchand in the 400 IM including beating "guaranteed silver medalist" Carson Foster. Japanese swimmers have had a tendency to underperform at the big meets so it's nice to see him step up to the occasion.
