  1. Another lobsided pair of semi's: Yu makes it with a 6th place in her semi.
  2. What do you mean, Russian? Listening to the English language commentators on things like Eurovisionsports suggests they don't exist and certainly aren't Russian, "the individual neutral athlete is coming on strong, next to the Australian, but the individual neutral athlete might come up a bit short and it's silver for the individual neutral athlete!"
  3. Yeah, good luck getting any non-Polish commentator to pronounce any Polish name correctly
  4. Oh wow, Italian gold. @copravolley can finally relax a bit
  5. Thank you, Dutch commentator. "THERE'S A MEDAL COMING!", 10 meters before the finish, followed by De Groot finishing in 7th (and never having really been in contention).
  6. Oh, by the way, the overall lack of excitement in this final took a bit of my attention from that, but yeah, that's the 3rd fastest time ever and indeed the fastest ever in non-supersuits
  7. Well that was one of the least interesting finals so far
  8. Also because it says this: One of her companions, identified as Kraus Marina Eva, was still stuck at the site, he said. While every other report so far has said Kraus had made it back to base camp (or was at least on her way), together with the aforementioned Thomas Huber.
  9. Yes, people like you and I are a lot less adventurous (and brave, I think). Everyone wants to enjoy life, some do that by spending lots of time on learning how to cook amazingly, others by writing books, training for marathons and so on, and yet others love adventure and experiencing things most people don't even dare dream of. I saw some ridiculous comments on social media that were along the lines of "well she was kinda looking for it". First of all, those people simply have the empathy level of a brick wall, absolute morons, and second: I guess 'living life' for them means watching Netflix on the sofa.
  10. Her ex-boyfriend at the time (a few years ago), to be precise, he was climbing together with his then-girlfriend in Argentina. In a documentary about Dahlmeier's climbing two years or so ago, she was clearly still affected by that, understandably, even though they weren't together anymore at the time. That documentary also made very clear that staying out of the mountains was in no way an option for her, she seems to have loved it even way, way more than biathlon. Every time she talked or posted about it, it was clear that the mountains and everything it entails were her number one love in life. As the German news said yesterday at the end of their piece about the situation: "Staying down below was simply never an option."
  11. Exactly. The rescue attempt (let's name it that for now) is being led by Thomas Huber, kind of a German legend in alpinism and mountaineering, apparently. Pakistani media have also reported that Dahlmeier managed to communicate with her climbing partner right after the accident, but it's unclear in which sense (shouting, radio, whatever). Also, take it with a grain of salt for now, I fear. Besides, that was now two freezing nights ago.
  12. All they did is leave out the part where they said they didn't see any signs of life...rather significant, I'm afraid.
  13. Meaning the team is doing a great job overall.
  14. I wonder if they'll change that next time, to make it more like cross-country skiing
  15. Don't fixate on gold so much. If a country wins a shit ton of medals, even without gold, their swimming is going absolutely fine.
  16. Yes. Canada has McIntosh to feel calm, you said. Dutch fans are also not panicking, so who do we have? I only count a bronze so far.
  17. Basically, yes. They said they didn't see any signs of life and determined, I assume because of that, that she is at least severely injured. That leads me to believe they have seen her, but could indeed not land there, drop someone down or anything like it.
  18. The search and rescue operation has been halted for today due to darkness. This isn't going to have a miracle ending
  19. 20 medals, damn. If that works out, big congratulations, that's a massive haul for the team.
  20. Or whoever finishes the best, which is not entirely luck. I mean, come on, swimming is literally a sport where it's simply about going from A to B the fastest in your very own lane. Whoever is the fastest by definition is the deserved winner. If you finish second or third, you certainly didn't deserve it more. I wish 'we' had 11 bronzes, by the way. Or 3.
  21. Coetze very much was the deserved winner though. If anyone deserved it more, they should have been faster.
  22. It has not been confirmed, but it has been confirmed that her situation is very bad (nobody has actually reached her yet, but a fly-over where she fell showed no signs of life): https://totallympics.com/forums/topic/27987-biathlon-discussion-qualification-to-winter-olympic-games-milano-cortina-2026/page/8/#comment-693476
  23. WTF Laura Dahlmeier has had a mountaineering accident in Pakistan, and has not been reached yet by emergency services. A helicopter has flown over the area though and determined she is 'at least seriously injured', adding that they didn't see signs of life.... https://www.bild.de/sport/medienberichte-ex-biathletin-laura-dahlmeier-in-pakistan-schwer-verunglueckt-6888bc1e893b255c80db057a
  24. Doesn't alpine skiing have some sort of a thing like you also need to be better than X points in the world championships? In other words, can one qualify 100% by just picking the right races (and/or organizing them together with some other small countries)?
