    Exactly. The rescue attempt (let's name it that for now) is being led by Thomas Huber, kind of a German legend in alpinism and mountaineering, apparently. Pakistani media have also reported that Dahlmeier managed to communicate with her climbing partner right after the accident, but it's unclear in which sense (shouting, radio, whatever). Also, take it with a grain of salt for now, I fear. Besides, that was now two freezing nights ago.

    All they did is leave out the part where they said they didn't see any signs of life...rather significant, I'm afraid.

    Don't fixate on gold so much. If a country wins a shit ton of medals, even without gold, their swimming is going absolutely fine.

    Basically, yes. They said they didn't see any signs of life and determined, I assume because of that, that she is at least severely injured. That leads me to believe they have seen her, but could indeed not land there, drop someone down or anything like it.

    20 medals, damn. If that works out, big congratulations, that's a massive haul for the team.

    Or whoever finishes the best, which is not entirely luck. I mean, come on, swimming is literally a sport where it's simply about going from A to B the fastest in your very own lane. Whoever is the fastest by definition is the deserved winner. If you finish second or third, you certainly didn't deserve it more. I wish 'we' had 11 bronzes, by the way. Or 3.

    Coetze very much was the deserved winner though. If anyone deserved it more, they should have been faster.

    WTF Laura Dahlmeier has had a mountaineering accident in Pakistan, and has not been reached yet by emergency services.     Doesn't alpine skiing have some sort of a thing like you also need to be better than X points in the world championships? In other words, can one qualify 100% by just picking the right races (and/or organizing them together with some other small countries)?

    Ah, it's currently between 1 and 7 years before a planned Olympics, exactly the timeframe where people are being vocal about cancelling it. As is tradition no matter where in the world it is.

    Is Su Yuksel's 4:36.54 in the 400m IM heats legit, or what happened there? That'd have easily been final worthy at the Olympics (close to the medals, even), but she ended up 4th in the final with a nearly 20 second slower time, that seems….unlikely, to say the least, to be real, no?
