  1. If that was the case, all of this confusion by the commentators yesterday was a little....dumb, wasn't it? I mean, think of this way of deciding things what you want, but if a federation has very clearly said "whoever does better at competition X" and one athlete is in the final while the other is not, that is not very complicated at all anymore. At least it would be fair to send Klimkait, both because of saying beforehand that whoever does better here will be sent (and so both knew what to do) and because she is quite simply the reigning world champion now..
  2. Out of curiousity, why did Macias get punished with a 3rd and final shido for being pushed out of the mat by Shavdatuashvili (and not stepping out of it by himself)? I mean, earlier on, plenty of judokas have received penalties for doing exactly what Shavdatuashvili did, but now he committed a 'foul' and his opponent got punished? It's like in football you hit someone in the face, and you are the one getting a free kick
  3. Can't wait for these athletes to all be called 'greatest ever' and such due to their world records on miracle shoes which are like this far away from having actual rockets in them
  4. Until a week or two ago I thought Stekelenburg was playing somewhere in some obscure league since ages, I had no idea he was even still active at this kind of level Then again, I was utterly shocked when seeing Stekelenburg made his debut in 2004 already, I thought that was much later. Back to the point though: it looks like it's going to be Stekelenburg, judging by a quick trip through media world. He was quite good against Georgia (I know, it's Georgia, but still), while Krul messed up in the godawful performance against Scotland. The fact that there's four players in the team who I've barely ever heard of (if ever at all) should tell you enough about my knowledge about this though
  5. I was expecting another one of those situations where a fight like this ends because of some stupid little penalty, but finishing it with a submission after fighting nearly 3,5 full-length fights in one is awesome
  6. What a fight between Karakas of Hungary and Nascimento of Brazil After 10 minutes (!) of golden score, Nascimento had Karakas down....but she came up two seconds shy of getting the waza-ari and with that, the win, so the fight went on. Then after 11:38 minutes of golden score, Karakas got a hold of Nascimento's arm and forced her to tap
  7. This document makes for interesting yet rather tragic reading..
  8. That gives me hope. I mean, Corona took a very early lead and a second lead later on, but got defeated in the end
  9. Detail of Ukraine's shirt and yes, that includes Crimea. Russia is pissed off now, mission achieved
  10. I can't find anything about them being married. I did find an interesting interview about the beginning of their relationship and (mainly Gal's) struggle about their homosexual feelings. https://www.helden.media/verhalen/twee-ruiters-op-een-kussen/ Also, apparently they are (or at least were) both coached by the woman Gal had a relationship with for 13 years before that got broken off due to Mindenhout appearing According to this article from yesterday, both are looking likely to be selected for Tokyo. It also mentions Mindenhout as Gal's partner and not husband, so I guess they're not married. https://www.knhs.nl/nieuws/2021/nederlands-kampioen-edward-gal-verkeert-in-luxepositie/
  11. Oh absolutely, one has to respect the fact he even is still playing at this level, no doubt about that. But if he's here now and made it to this stage, assuming fatigue is the only issue and there (hopefully) is nothing injury-like, one would guess he could have at least showed up tomorrow like the champion he undoubtedly is. Of course in the end it's his decision and all..
  12. Somehow feels like Zverev and Nishikori are going for a long, long night...too bad tomorrow is Monday already
  13. I believe I mostly defended her refusal to keep going to every little press thing, not so much her withdrawal itself. If it came across as defending her withdrawal (instead of her statements about mental health and the press thing), I shall rectify that situation by saying that's not what I intended and withdrawing was as much a slap in Tig's face as Federer slaps Köpfer in the face. If Federer is actually injured or close to injured, it's a whole different story of course.
  14. What a slap in the face of his opponents. Working your ass off until deep in the night only to lose to someone who then gives the tournament and you a big middle finger by withdrawing basically due to being tired. Not good by Federer, not good at all.
  15. What a race Mostly boring, then an incredibly dangerous tyre issue threw it around....and Hamilton Quite idiotic to have the restart with two laps to go, that's really just asking for things to go very wrong, luckily that didn't happen (for Hamilton, sure, but no damage). Bottas was riding for Red Bull as well today, I assume? What a fail, again..
  16. Apparently I already had an account Live streams are available on YT I see, at least in the morning.
  17. Seriously, now one needs an IJF account to be able to even see the live scores?
  18. Now that would be a major slap in the face of the opponents he has faced until now.
  19. Damn, Federer going deep into the night against Dominik Köpfer.
  20. Sorry, I like you but I think you're one of the most overrated Olympic athletes ever Nothing personal, you know.
  21. Out of curiousity, what's with full names in one poll and only half names in the other poll? It's Reshmie Oogink, for example Meanwhile I'm just using this to see who are the favourites because I have no idea
  22. Apparently Vatican City has roughly 30 female inhabitants. I wonder how many other nations have such a high percentage of their population being an athlete
  23. Boy, that's long ago since I heard/read that name I thought he had long retired...
  24. Well, it has been a very entertaining first 6 hours or so. Sadly, then the red flag came due to the fog....and a few minutes ago came the announcement that the race will restart no earlier than 07.00 No night racing on the Nordschleife this year.
  25. Ugh, it's annoying when media mix up their facts At the JOA/JAAA Destiny Series Meet at the National Stadium in Kingston, Fraser-Pryce ran 10.63 for a new Jamaican record. The mark is the second-fastest by a female sprinter, only behind American Florence Griffith-Joyner’s (Flo Jo) 10.49 done in 1988. No it's not. It's the fourth fastest time, she is the second-fastest female sprinter. Those are not equal things.
