  1. Let's be honest, most of the swimming distances are redundant There isn't something that unique of doing 100 or 200 meters. But because the sport is as popular as it is and has a big branding of creating superstars, who can win "countless medals", it gets a pass on the program. If we were looking objectively, compared with the other sports, the swimming schedule should be only: - 100 m for the 4 styles - 400 and 1500 m freestyle - 400 m individual medley - 4x100 freestyle and 4x100 medley relays - Mayyyyyybe a mixed relay
  2. Some observations on a few other nations. New Zealand continue their leadership in the category of "Most wins and medals compared to the population and territory of the country". Their sporting success and consistency every Summer Olympics is admirable. Netherlands officially confirmed their status as a member of the "Big Boys Club". Second consecutive Summer Games with over 30 medals, but with a better conversion into Golds and 6th place in the table. In Tokyo they were 7th. Add to that the last 3 Winter ones, where they were 5, 5 and 6th and it shows how they have steadily risen in the ranks. Sure, the majority of their medals came from cycling, rowing and athletics, but that just means they are perfectly escalating in the traditionally strong sports for them. Know what you are good at. Uzbekistan also had their best Games ever and so much better than in Tokyo. Their stronghold is boxing, but also have done very good in the other combat sports. Once again the motto of "know what you are good at". I think they were slightly pushed in some boxing matches, but in general their fighters are amongst the best in this version of boxing. Canada is also steadily improving, but unlike and their progress is seen in a large variety of sports. Sure, they have a superstar like McIntosh who brought many of the swimming medals, but i was watching a number of other sports and they had Canadians fighting for top positions everywhere. Sports, which you wouldn't associate with Canada in the past years. Don't know what has changed, but they have broaden their sporting horizon. If things continue like this, by LA 28 they would be in the - - - fight. Also with the US being hosts, they will have a much easier path in the qualifications without the Americans, so their delegation will be 350-400 in 2028 i reckon.
  3. I think it's over now. Valente is going to win the Omnium and regardless of the wrestling final, the US will be first on Silvers. Another last day steal just like in Tokyo.
  4. Congratulations on Valentes second Olympic title. It's an easier win than even those from the NED in track.
  5. No, at best both matches are 50-50, with the men's final being 60-40 in favor of Iran imo.
  6. Awful end to the athletics program with Hassan getting a win
  7. Not having a stupid double gold AGAIN, is one of the best things to happen today!
  8. Nah, I'm thinking 60+ for a home Olympics. 30 from only swimming and athletics and another 30 from the other sports. Now in Paris they are practically at 20 from swimming & athletics, plus around 20 from the other sports, so it should be expected they can add 10 more each as hosts. This will be China's best opportunity for a few Games, as they have exceeded in a bunch of sport, which won't happen in LA and Brisbane I reckon.
  9. Welp, it can't be all sunshine. Congrats on the new champions and medalists.
  10. Carrington will be going until Brisbane 2032 right? With the way she is paddling there wouldn't be much trouble staying for her home Olympics.
  11. The combined format is good, no need to separate the events.
  12. Brave of you to say, given that it was certain the war would be over "in a few months, then a year, then it couldn't go to two years" etc. I've said it before, but with America's rich, rich history in boxing, I'd be flabbergasted if they'd drop boxing right before their hosting. No matter what kind of other scandals the IOC has with boxing, it will be a gigantic opportunity for the US to revive interest in this sport and I'm sure there are lots of regional and local parties with interests in this.
  13. This could very likely come down to Golf and Breaking Like you said, China has 6 favorites to go to 39 - 2x weightlifting, diving, table tennis, synchro swimming and boxing. ( though with boxing and weightlifting you never know). US has the 6 in only 2x basketball, canoeing, 2x athletics and 1 wrestling I'd give them for now. And they still have a few more, where it's possible, so they need to severely underperform to not finish first. Realistically for China to have a chance, without the unknown events like golf and breaking, the US need to lose 3/4 team finals and get 1 gold in athletics, or 2/2 and nothing in athletics. Or they don't win anything in wrestling, but all of that seems highly unlikely.
  14. Yeah, many countries will have their best Games recently, but in hindsight not having Russia played a big factor. And even in Tokyo Russia weren't competing with their full potential. I had mentioned it a few months back, that it was very likely, that the top 10 this year will all have 10+ gold medals, which I'm not sure if it has happened before.
  15. Let them fight, let them fight!
  16. Wanted Brunner & Huberli to win, but still happy they got a medal. Will be rooting for in the final now.
  17. Warholm looked very rough. Haven't seen him out of breath that much recently.
  18. Haven't looked at it, but Ethiopia are probably having their worst Olympics in some time.
  19. What a run from Batocletti Almost beat Africa in the 10 000. Holy Smokes
  20. Very sad to see Yazdani getting an injury into the final. No one wants to win this way. Can't really feel happy for this win, as we know he wasn't a 100%.
  21. What a night for Germany, after someone mentioned how they can't win medals in athletics anymore
  22. Completely legal times in a completely legal period
  23. That's one hell of a PB for Paulino
  24. I am already happy with these Olympics, but i will be more happy if Natalia Kaczmarek gets a medal (or a win )
  25. Italy were this close to another medal That was one wild, wild 4x100, like usual.
