According to this which was posted 5 minutes ago, FINA acknowledged that it was an error on their end and the Greek relay teams for men's 4x100 medley and mixed 4x100 medley will be going to Tokyo. I'm assuming this also means that Dimitrios Markos goes through in the men's 800m freestyle.

What a mess. FINA should just allow 17 teams to compete and let Ireland and Switzerland send their teams since it was their mistake. Might be more difficult because these are relay events, but a similar mistake happened in 2016. Greek swimmer Kristel Vourna was given an invitation to Rio because she reached the OST for 100m butterfly. FINA made a mistake because we already had one Greek swimmer with OQT in that event. So they revoked their invitation and then in the end they made an exception and let Vourna compete.

Whoever wrote that article should be horse whipped. ‘Gossipy Irish’?

We now have 6 boxers qualified for the Olympics, more than I thought to be honest! Not betting on medals again this time but not impossible. Emmet Brennan still has a chance to make it too in the box offs.

All three of the women are definitely medal contenders.

Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question, but my knowledge of shooting and the qualification is extremely limited. Aoife Gormally finished 7th in the women's trap, finishing one place below the Olympic quota. What are the chances, if any, that she could get a quota after reallocations?

She was ranked 20th in the world in Trap and Ireland has no shooting quota so I would think high.

Doing the rough maths, 8 x 2 x 4  = all the synchro quotas = 64, leaving 72 which is 18 per individual event. so there are 18 individual quota places available per individual event, but anyone who earns a place by right in Synchro (e.g Tom Daley, Jack Laugher, Grace Reid and Lois Touslon, for example) doesn't need a 'quota place'. so if you imagine stroking those out (they still get in the event, of course, but they just don't take up a quota) you just keep going until you've handed out 18 places to individual divers only - I assume the same rule may apply if a diver is diving in two individual events by right.

Of course, these 'bonus' places can't be technically handed out until the Synchro nations have conformed their picks, but we know who most of them will be, and I think that's where the confusion lay. It certainly wasn't 18 actual spots at the last qualifer.

Even FINA themselves said the top 18 at World Cup qualified for Tokyo.

Please stop saying of Games cancellation. Its the only one thing which you can do here? Then your life must be really poor if you spread unsense articles and says about that Games should be cancelled everday. Please find an better thing which you can do with your life.

@Sindo can you ban him already?

The Chef de Mission of Team Ireland was on radio this morning pointing out that the case levels in Japan are half what we have currently in Ireland yet we are opening up. She said the feedback they are getting from places where the Irish Team will have training camps in Japan is that there in are no issues with them hosting athletes etc.

Its election year in Japan so people need to bear that in mind. That said the IOC need to be doing more to reassure the Japanese people that every precaution is being taken. A good start is that the IOC themselves need to ensure that there are no junckets etc and that the bare minimum of officials attend.

:FRA and :IRL improve their times but not their position.

If 2 countries currently outside the top 15 in the world don't beat 7:12:00 then Ireland will send it's first swimming relay team to the Olympics since 1972

Is the cut off date 31st May still? Canada and Korea the dangers but I’d be surprised to see two countries pass us.

Oh well, Switzerland will likely decline this without much thought. I have to check their selection policy to be sure.

Tragedy for Bengeri who wasted a chance of a lifetime. Looks like she will be first under the line. So typical for this damned Olympic cycle...

Why would Switzerland decline the quota? Cant see it happenning

It looks like Pakistan has been awarded a universality place in women's 200m. It's the only place awarded so far according to World Athletics.

    Link

If there are 56 places available in the 200m and 10 countries are awarded universality places does that mean only 46 other places are available? In 2016 about 20 universality places were awarded in 100m alone. Surely that would mean lots of good athletes missing out?

A relief that Ntouskos qualified, and I am confident Kyridou will qualify next month as well. Sad for our LW2X though, they really needed this. Will be hard to see them qualify now. Does anyone know what is happening with the reallocated quota from the Americas event in LW2X?

There will be an extra spot available at the final qualifier in LW2X.
