  1. I think the Light Weight women will win the B final. They should have enough to beat Poland and Greece and they were way ahead of France yesterday. Plus they have the best lane. The Fours will have to wait for the FQR. They faded really badly in last 250 yesterday and let Denmark breeze past them. Probably 3rd tomorrow but with Hegarty back next year I think they will get to Paris again. I did predict 5 boats qualifying but did not expect 5 finalists. We can definitely target 2-3 medals in Paris.
  2. They were at least 7 seconds faster than the other B finalists so definitely are favourites. At worst they will qualify at the FQR. Our W4 have no chance in B final
  3. If that’s the case regarding France which two of USA, Canada or New Zealand don’t qualify so that does?
  4. He still has the European qualifier and the FQR?
  5. So how many do you think we will qualify now? I still think the w4s and women’s lightweight are touch and go. The quads surprised me today being just over a second from a semi-final spot. Definitely worth sending them to the FQR. I’m still going for 5 boats qualifying here.
  6. Agree with all this and I'd just add that if the LW2X AND W4 fail to qualify here I would fully expect them to qualify at the FQR next May. I did hote the Quads might have surprised us buit they were lower than I expected.
  7. Should Hockey have been thrown out of the Olympics when India won it every 4 years. How about Diving? 7 out of 8 Gold for China or Table Tennis? 4 out of 5 Golds for China?
  8. And the Eights come from mainly English Speaking countries..Canada,US,GB,NZ and Aus. Add Germany, Romania and Netherlands and thats pretty much it. If they are the Blue Riband of rowing then why are so few countries competing?
  9. In 2019 Maurogiovani sent 6 boats to the WC and 4 of them qualified for the Olympics winning 3 medals. The other two crews both then qualified at the FQR. The womens lightweight improved from 17 to 3rd between the Worlds and the FQR. Anything similar next week and we'll be lighting bonfires! I thought we sent a decent number of boats to the Euros and World Cup 3 and most countries did not put a big effort into the First two World Cups. The withdrawal of the Mens 4 at WC 3 still seems strange and I suppose the chopping and changing the womens sweep is partly base on the fact the fours seem the target of other countries to the detriment of the Eights. Maybe we should be trying the Eights??? I'm hoping the Quads could be our woment 4 from 2019...midtable in B Final and qualify at FQR. I am a bit less concerned about the woments lightweights as even with their relatively poor form they still seem to be at worst 5/6th in the World based on their 2023 races. If they have a good regatta they might get a podium place.
  10. I'd totally forgotten anout how well the Mens Pair did at WC3 so I'd tend to agree that we should manage to qualify at least 5 boats. 6 would be great and 7 in total Incl. the FQR) would be excellent. I think two medals here (and at Olympics) would still be good work.
  11. When I first saw the team my first reaction was that this seemed a real scattergun approach. Dismantling the womens 4 is a big call as is entering a senior quad which I did not see coming. I am a tad worried abot how well we will do next week and I could see us just qualifying 4 crews or even less. Maybe that would be a good result as we only qualified 4 boats in 2019. The way I see it going in order of chances is 1/ Lightweight mens doubles: Have to be certs for qualifying and a podiulm place. 2/ Mens Double : Should qualify and should probably make the final as well. 3/ Womens Double: Bronze in last years WC so should be able to make top 11 and qualify. 4/ Womens Pair: A new crew taken from the Olympic medal boat. Should make the top 11 but not certainities. 5/ Womens Lightweight Double: Not going particularly well this season and with only Top 7 qualifying are at best 50/50 6/ Womens Four: This boat seems all over the place this year. Personally dont see them qualify next week but maybe at FQR 7/ Mens Pair: A new crew but really cannot see a qualifying spot here. 8/ Mens Quad: A Hail Mary punt or something that has been planned for a while? Haven't a notion! 9/ Mens Four. Will they even get to Belgrade? So on a good week we qualify 5 boats and on a bad week just 3. Then again I am no xpert and I am sure the coaches have had their plan in place since start of year.
  12. She has ran 49.2 so she is part of the way there. She had a long hard NCAA season this year which wouldn’t have helped. She will be in the mix for medals over the next decade or so given a bit of luck.
  13. Well she certainly should be someone you would want in a dream 400m race over the next year or two surely?
  14. Adeleke is just 20 and has had a full season in the US Collegiate system. She has 3 Olympics ahead of her. She will soon enough beat all of the above.
  15. One of the best performances ever by an Irish athlete. Just had three better than her..
  16. Well Lisa said in the local paper last week that she had not given up on Paris and hoped to be at next years qualifiers.
  17. Watched the All Ireland Gaelic football final. Dublin won are now all Ireland and World Champions.
  18. have two squads in 13th place. Am I optimistic in reckoning it’s unlikely 4 teams from outside the top 16 pass them?
  19. The women have nearly 4 seconds over the 19th placed team. I can’t see them being caught.
  20. I must say I had thought the same. She just says she is not giving up on Paris which I take as trying for the qualifiers. Its a big ask for Lisa to make the weight at 66kg so she may just be waiting for 2028. I'm sure Zaur has all worked out.
  21. According to her Instagram account Amy Broadhurst is staying amateur and trying again for Olympic qualification next year.
  22. How is the Diving qualification going to manage to stay at the quota of 136? Synchronised Competitions 64 Continental Quotas 20 2023 Worlds 48 2024 Worlds 48 Thats 180 quotas. Obviously Countries like Japan, GB, Mexico will be doubling in spots but that will hardly bring the figure from 180 to 136. Will that mean the 2024 Worlds might only have 4 or 5 nquotas available instead of 12? Its a bit unfair on athletes who finish in top 12 in quota but may not make Paris.
  23. And hopefully Ciara Mageean on Friday night in the Mile. A bit disappointed in our divers thugh Both Ciara McGing and Jake Passmore got to the finals in the European Games but were well down the field at the Worlds. 28th and 45th. Granted Europe is not the strongest for divers bar the UK and McGing should have a 50/50 in Doha I still would have hoped for Top 20 here. Which they would have if the acheived similar scores to the EG. Really looking forward to seeing how good Wiffen is. He could be a huge name in 10 days time.
