  1. Her record this year: Semis in All-England, including a win over Yamaguchi, Finals in Swiss Open, and a win over Pornpawee in WTF finals, Quarters in Thailand and R1 exit in Thailand. She has been in worse form going in Olympics/World Championships in past. She is a big tournament player. Tai is an excellent player who has great H2H against almost all top players but what is her record in WC/Olympics? Chochowong is not even going to Olympics. I am not qualified enough to comment which among the top 10 has the best backhand and who has the worst net play and so on. That if Sindhu has such a glaring defect in her play and technique, why is that all the top players find it difficult to defeat her in big tournaments?
  2. We lose the quota.
  3. Are you serious? She has medalled in every WC/Olympics since 2013 (except 2015) and she has no answer? She is the current World Champion for God's sake.
  4. Thank God it is Sumit and not Vinesh/Bajrang or Ravi
  5. Yup, my mistake. Before typing my reply I checked to see if next Spaniard was in line to replace Marin. But somehow missed her while checking reserves.
  6. What was Pakistan doing at Southeast Asian championships?
  7. Nope. There is no need for the next athlete to be from Europe. as R1 would take Marin’s place. Next in line are and
  8. Till 24th rank, quotas will be allocated based on combined ranking, which puts singles and doubles ranking at par.. After that till quota of 86 athletes per gender is reached, same formula will be used. After that priority will be given to teams with players already qualified in Singles. Assuming that Bopanna/Sharan do qualify, don't think combined ranking of 49 would be enough to qualify for Mixed Doubles.
  9. You have good chance for a second quota. Maria is R2 at present. Carolina Marin is almost surely out. And IIRC, there were some posts here about some other players also not being nominated by their NOC. So, one more withdrawal and she is in.
  10. Australia have qualified for sure in WS. They are in qualifying via continental spot in WD/MS and XD. But, they can qualify via continental spot in only 2 disciplines, so they have to drop one of them. WD pair is the only one of the three who are competitive at top stage, so it is safe to assume they would be one of the 2 disciplines chosen. If they drop MS, I couldn't find any other eligible athlete for Oceania quota, so it should go to next highest ranked athlete, . If they drop XD, their quota would go to .
  11. Wrestling gave max quotas to the last WC before Olympics. Its not their fault that Olympics got delayed by a year.
  12. Australia has to chose 2 out of MS/WD and XD.
  13. Technically, Australia can chose any 2 of the continental quotas. WD should be safe. But, how to chose between XD and MS?
  14. I think Sania Mirza can use her protected ranking to get into WD. Apart from her, I don’t think anyone is close to qualification. But, in case a lot of players skip the Olympics, which is always a real possibility, then we may sneak in a couple of more players.
  15. I don’t think Khan thought no one would notice. It must be more of a case of him trying to play victim by claiming later that FEI prevented him from going to Olympics on a technicality. Host organisers, FEI and Khan all have to share the blame. Most likely Khan would be banned for some time. FEI would impose some fine on organisers but who would punish FEI?
  16. She doesn’t have a case. But her reasoning is that she was fit for the qualifying tournaments in March/April/May 2020 but with cancellation of all qualifying tournaments, qualification went to ranking. And the only tournaments in which she was eligible to participate for rankings were in the time frame when she was taking a break due to pregnancy. As many have pointed out, same argument can be made by a large number of athletes. Though, sad for her missing out even on a chance to qualify, the legal case is wrong. It is just using her pregnancy to get a free WC.
  17. To be frank, how would IOC reinstate her? We all know that Boxing qualification has been a disaster but don’t see how IOC can give WC to her without opening themselves to similar legitimate demand from many more.
  18. When did you join the Lakers?
  19. Netherlands doesn’t expect to complete vaccination by year-end?
  20. https://indianexpress.com/article/sports/sport-others/when-doors-closed-on-indian-shooters-a-grateful-croatian-rolled-out-red-carpet-7312673/ Thank You Petar Gorsa, Croatia @dcro
  21. Even if Peni can prove that someone spiked his drink, process would take time. And he would be provisionally banned till then. Even then, he might get a reduced ban. Basically, if his test has come positive, almost no chance for him to compete in Tokyo.
  22. What a big loss for Hungary. Both Peni and Sidi are top class shooters. That is multiple medal chances gone.
  23. Additional spots open up due to 1) Japan not needing host quota and 2) athletes qualifying in multiple events. For example, British pair of Ellis/Smith are qualifying in XD. But both Ellis and Smith are also qualifying in MD and WD. Hence, one additional spot is available in both MS and WS.
