  1. FINA released a provisional list of universality swimmers. https://www.fina.org/competitions/tokyo-2020-swimming-info I guess exporting a table from .xls to a simple .pdf must be pretty difficult...
  2. Yap, Slovakia is apparently jinxed for the day.
  3. Probably Puerto Rico and Malaysia.
  4. Right. Russia has so many W + X quotas that they will almost surely be forced to either enter some mixed team-only athletes or to give up spots entirely. Women's rifle - 4 Women's pistol - 3 Women's shotgun - 5 I mean, sure, they can exchange the shotgun for pistol, but then Batsarashkina for example would be forced to start in only one individual event...
  5. Oh, wait. Slovakia can actually enter two mixed teams for trap already. So, should Kovacocy qualify today, they would be able to enter three male trap shooters and still have one of Varga/Kovacocy allowed to start in both events. But then one of the Slovaks would be going to Tokyo solely for the team event. Not sure if their federation would find that worthwhile.
  6. That mixed team quota is cashing in hard for Slovakia right now. They may end up with a possible exchange + someone like Jana Spotakova going to the Olympics of all people.
  7. EDIT: As you can see, no team alternate has been named. And that is simply because there was nobody else qualified. Thailand will probably be the only eventing team in Tokyo which will not be able to make a substitution (if needed).
  8. Yes, they will... Well, this rule was known from the start. Ukraine did everything by-the-book to keep that individual place. But nevertheless, Poland has been really unlucky. First they chose the tougher tournament in Moscow (where they lost to Israel by 1 pen), and then they witnessed Ukraine failing to keep their team spot and taking the individual spot instead...
  9. Ukraine qualified 'manually' (Oleksandr Prodan & Casanova). Link
  10. Wikipedia pages have been, sadly, occupied by a single user who seems to be inventing qualification systems on-the-fly.
  11. 5-time Olympian and Tokyo favorite Ingrid Klimke is out. Enormous blow for Germany.
  12. I'd rather count it under universality, as those spots were only awarded to unqualified NOCs, who then chose the specitic athlete at their own discretion. Very similar to the system used in athletics/swimming (pre-Tokyo).
  13. Well, there is case of Lionel Cox, who qualified by universality, and then performed out of his skin to earn silver...
  14. Not very likely. She would need to out-select at least two of their superstars (McLain Ward, Kent Farrington, Beezie Madden, Devin Ryan). And then there are Laura Kraut and massivelly talented Brian Moggre...
  15. Tim Price and Jonelle Price just need to put NZ on the podium.
  16. But then again, max 2 per event was apsurd. Some events are clearly more accessible than others (even more so when the Tripartite nations are concerned).
  17. Had a great experience attending a small open air concert today. Can't even remember the last time I heard music live. Let's just say that the performer very much impressed the Croatian jury and is now an unexpected contender for the Open.
  18. Dumb question, but is it Andriantsitohaina or Andriatsitohaina? Or both?
  19. Disagree. Curling tricked the IOC into including mixed doubles under the pretense of bringing universality. And then all the quotas were grabbed by the traditional powerhouses. FIBA included a small provision to prevent exactly that. If there was something nonsensical in this system, then that would be the ranking points calculation.
  20. Japan participating in the universality tournament would be rather nonsensical, so I am glad they made it out of here.
