dullard reacted to intoronto in Swimming FINA Short Course World Championships 2022
Canada won 14 medals here...1 less than 2021, which is remarkable as Australia did not compete last year. Canada was also missing its best male and female athlete here.

ugh, Crooks was leading for 3/4 of the race before fading over the final length. Australia takes both 100m finals to start the night

sprinter Randolph Ross has been banned until 2025 (making him ineligible for Paris 2024) for faking an e-mail to anti-doping authorities.
Ross was a two-time Collegiate champion in the 400m.
He competed in Tokyo individually in the 400m and as a member of the gold-medal winning 4x400m team during qualifying.

In long course your women are lightyears away from USA, Canada, Australia and China. It would be the biggest miracle in the history of sport if your women would reach that level in the foreseeable future. There are probably half a dozen other nations that are at least as good as the Netherlands. Your only swimmer who is even close to world class in the 200 free is Steenbergen. I think in Paris the absolute perfect case for the Netherlands would be 5th place in the relay + Steenbergen somehow sneaking into the individual final. At this point it is difficult to imagine the Netherlands winning more than 2 medals (2 x Kamminga) in Paris.

I don't know, WA is a good federation, but personally I prefer WA over WA, although WA is not a bad one neither.

The women's 400 FR is one of my top events on Paris and my bet is on McIntosh topping both Titmus and Ledecky.

It's surely a mistake. Just use the FINA rankings and/or the Nuoto Mondiale annual rankings which capture some fast swims from national meets that FINA misses.

dullard reacted to rafalgorka in Paris 2024 - Very Early Predictions - Event 1/329 - Swimming - Men's 400m Freestyle
@dullard thanks for your comment.
That's what I wanted from this series of polls.
That we will get some info on maybe not the most obvious and well-known Paris contenders.
If Galossi wins Gold in Event#1, how many swimming gold medals will Italy get in total after such a thing on Day1??? ;-)
Good luck against ARG, chances are small, but still bigger than POL has against FRA, I think.

So much can change in swimming in two years making this really difficult.
Some other possible contenders:
Ahmed Hafnaoui (Olympic Champion who focused on study this year)
Thomas Neill (another 3:44 Australian whose season was ruined by a rough case of covid this year)
David Popovici (if he swims it he can't be dismissed as a contender for gold)
Lorenzo Galossi (fast rising Italian junior)
🥇Lorenzo Galossi
🥈Elijah Winnington
🥉Lukas Martens
