Peacock (NBC's streaming service in the US) has finally added a page for the Olympics. All the world feeds, plus the network and cable broadcasts, will be available online in the US for the first time without a cable subscription (behind a five dollar paywall, but that's still significantly cheaper than a month of cable).

Not to sound like a shill but all my fellow US-based Totallympians really owe it to themselves to get Peacock (they carry all FIS, ISU and IBU world cup and world championship events, among other sportsball related stuff).

The one question I have yet to see answered, with the streaming world feed, will Peacock use OBS announcers or NBC's, or none?

For the US-based international sports fan, Peacock's Olympic coverage is the best thing since well, the Triplecast.

The freestyle skiing expansion indicates otherwise. But that's not a bad thing, USA seems to be focused on that so you might leave biathlon alone. Historically this is one sport where USA never had much success which is a blessing in disguise.

I don’t think there is any worry that USA will have any biathlon  breakthrough.  Until ski mountaineering debuts next time, it will stay the only  Winter Games sport where US has never medaled.

The thing though is in the last Olympic cycle, tv coverage of biathlon in the US has increased maybe 100 fold and Its unfortunate that we are back to just streaming coverage.

I think it’s really kept around at the world cup level because the IBU doesn’t want to give up a set of Olympic medals :P

Agree too.  But if it goes, It would seem as though IBU would replace it with something else (super sprint, shortened individual?), not just willingly give up 2 sets of Olympic medals.

Individual is my favorite event since shooting actually matters here. However I won't be surprised if it gets canned in the next 15 years due to TV demands. Thankfully USA isn't that strong in this sport or else that would have happened already IMO.

Which would be really stupid because it's actually way more exciting to watch than the sprint.

The thing that makes me optimistic about the Individual's long term future is that it requires no additional venues or athletes and biathlon is a high performing sport in terms of TV ratings.

Funny, The USA TV biathlon commentator frequently says the individual is kept around because it's the oldest event, going back to the origins of the sport.  During yesterday's race, he and his commentating partner were describing the layout of the first Olympic biathlon course in 1960.  It was one loop only, 4 shooting stops along the way with differing distances and greater penalty minutes for a bad miss.

Agree, it's not like it needs an extra venue or anything, and they need events anyway to keep the Winter Games calendar full.  Plus we don't always get to dictate the Olympic TV program.

I think they were just really surprised with that 16th place, so they decided to have a figure skater for the first time since Innsbruck 1976.

Netherlands has a couple of figure skating medals, including a gold from 1964.

3 medals in FS to be exact with the 1976 one.  That third one though caused a lot of controversy at the time in the USA.

Some are already tipping Georgia for a figure skating team event medal. While Top 5 is probably more likely than Top 3, they can still create a surprise. It will also depend if some of the chanceless mid-tier teams decide to spare their best individuals for individual events.

Would be an upset if they beat :JPN and :CAN but it's definitively possible.

Romania's progress in bobsleigh has been really impressive over the past couple years. Def feels like they could become medal contenders soon.

Would seem ice dance would knock Georgia down.  Can they get above last in that phase?  Although I guess :USA  is favored for silver, the US nationals left me underwhelmed.

For Romania, if they made it in bobsled, what would be the  liklihood of having your only Winter Games medals be in bobsled, 54 or 58 years apart.

based on a super quick (and therefore not so accurate) research, Harvey was already 3rd in the Shanghai Grand Prix event in 2018...that should be the first podium finish in the last 10 years for a female Canadian fencer...follow by today's result...

however, I bet on her and Jessica Guo to improve that score in a very short time...

No, Sherraine Schalm has six individual world cup wins and a season title.

Canada also has a couple individual world championship medals.

Did Luan Jujie ever win anything after she switched nationalities?

Common sense would suggest Shiffrin & Vlhova have two OG medals locked up but you never know with these one-off courses. I won't be surprised if someone else comes to win totally from the left-field in Beijing.

Chances of Liensberger getting hot are maybe smaller compared to last season?

If it's anyone else now, I'd bet on Holdener.  She had 2 great first runs in the last 2 races.   Plus, what a story it would be if she finally won her first slalom.

Ivan Patzaichin :ROU . Won 7 medals at the Olympics (4 golds)between 1968-1984 which is more than any other canoeist has ever achived.

Over the years, I have thought about Ivan Patzaichn for an interesting fact - He was one of just 6 men, I believe, who won a gold medal in both 1980 and 1984.

  10. Athletics  W PV :USA  Katie Nageotte winning it the hard way. (Because of all the early misses,  it offered a good example to explain to my wife the tie-breaker rules for vertical jumps.)  Breathtaking women's 4x4

Cycling Track, A great last North American night from :CAN Kelsey Mitchell and  :USA Jennifer Valente to end things.

Basketball 3x3 :USA for the women, and great to see :LAT  beat :ROC  for gold.

Handball, Volleyball, :FRA winning 2 golds 30 minutes apart.  Great Overall 6 medals for :FRA in team sports.

Equestrian, Jessica Springsteen and the :USA team wimnning silver.

Rhythmic Gymnastics, :BUL Group and Linoy Ashram :ISR winning gold.

Wrestling:  Gable Dan Steveson :USA winning one for the ages.

    Modern Pentathlon a :GBR 2 for 2.

Handball, as above a :FRA 2 for 2.

Dear lord, we have the bronze, somehow. That was a great last quarter, finally the girls pulled it off when it mattered, but please, the next time just be a bit more consistent because this tournament was nerve wrecking for us.

With all due respect to :ESP  I feared having to play Hungary tonight, for obvious reasons.  Congratulations to them for a well-deserved bronze.
