  1. Rhys McClenaghan will be in subdivision 1. Do you know in which rotation he will compete on pommel?

  3. QUALIFICATION UPDATE It's been a busy day of updates in terms of Olympic qualification with World Athletics revealing the list of athletes qualified to the Olympics by ranking, the IGF releasing the list of qualified women for the Olympic golf tournament and with the announcement of the Irish men's road cycling team. Starting with road cycling, Nicolas Roche, Dan Martin and Eddie Dunbar have been selected to represent the country in the men's road race with Roche going also in the men's individual time-trial. It will be Roche's 4th Olympic Games! However, in terms of new quotas, Ireland has earned 11 more quotas in athletics after the world rankings list was finalised overnight. Although this does not yet mean that Athletics Ireland or the Olympic Federation of Ireland will nominate all of those athletes, for the purposes of this tracker I am counting them as earned quotas at this moment in time. I will only count 10 additional quotas since Phil Healy will almost certainly take part in the mixed relay event. This brings the number of athletics qualifiers to 25 and puts athletics at the top of the table in terms of Irish qualifiers by sport for the Olympic Games. The IGF also revealed the list of women qualified to the Olympics after the qualifying period came to an end. Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow (26th and 38th respectively in the Olympic qualifying list) have both earned a quota place and both look set to represent Ireland at the Games for a second time! That means we now have secured 114 athlete quotas (59 men and 55 women) with representatives in 65 events, across 20 different sports. It is almost certain that the relay squad will contain Phil Healy who is already qualified in the Women's 200m and 400m. Therefore, for the purposes of being as accurate as possible, I am only counting 3 new additional quotas to fill the relay squad. 5. I honestly have no idea what the thinking is in the backrooms of national federations. And to be fair and balanced, I also have no idea what was communicated to the Irish riders by the selectors throughout the qualification period. Waiting for the next blow of the wind now to see what changes….

  8. Mark English just broke the Irish NR for men's 800m which has been held by Dave Matthews since 1995. What a night for him
  9. QUALIFICATION UPDATE Mark English did it!! He is on the plane to Tokyo after running 1:44.71 mins over 800m in Spain this evening! Phew! He gets the A standard just in the nick of time . But not only that, he broke the long-standing Irish record for the men's 800m which has stood since 1995. Congrats Mark That means we now have secured 102 athlete quotas (55 men and 47 women) with representatives in 58 events, across 20 different sports. 10. By the way I see it quoted in this article and in eurodressage that it is still questionable whether the Irish will get a slot now since that quota went to Belgium and the deadline has passed.
  11. What a mess. The only people who should be ashamed here is the selectors (i.e. Johann Hinnemann). Fair play to the riders for fighting the decision. Even if they will probably finish last . Poor Belgium, I feel sorry for their riders.
  12. It is kind of annoying me though as they aren’t different sports but hey, it sounds better
  13. Probably because on this forum road cycling and track cycling are being counted as different sports and I am just copying the format that’s being used here for all nation pages on the forum:
  14. QUALIFICATION UPDATE Updated after the official confirmation from the FIG that Megan Ryan has received a reallocated quota in women's artistic gymnastics after the withdrawal of North Korea. The OFI have also confirmed that Sam Waddilove and Robert Dickson will sail the men's 49er boat for Ireland at the Olympics after winning the nation quota earlier this year at the Lanzarote International regatta. That means we now have secured 101 athlete quotas (54 men and 47 women) with representatives in 57 events, across 20 different sports. 16. Out: Basketball 3x3 Karate Skateboarding In: Darts (same format as World Cup or similar to that) Bowls Bowling Would love to see squash and snooker there too but I think I would be genuinely more excited by the other 3.
  17. Yes Kate has slipped further down the rankings after the US trials so it’s most unlikely she will make it now. Great to see her entered in the javelin in the Euro U23s as well. I see David Kenny also entered in the men’s 20 walk. It’s likely he will be inside the Olympic ranking quotas. I wonder will Athletics Ireland send him. I imagine they will bring him to the Olympics if he makes the cut.
  18. Yes it’s just a mistake. She seems to be listed on all the women’s lists . It should be 100m of course.

  20. I see in the Road To Tokyo rankings in lists athlete with universality quota in women's heptathlon but for some reason it is not impacting on the total quotas of 24
  21. I see in women's heptathlon, one Dutch girl has made the qualification standard while 2 other Dutch girls are in the quota positions by ranking. Do you think they will all be sent to Tokyo?
  22. Given the Dutch have set crazy standards for their athletes across all sports, there is a little chance they could turn down a quota. Who knows? They have 1 girl in by standard but 2 other Dutch girls are in the quota places by ranking only. I do believe they will send all 3 but I am curious to see nonetheless. Those 2 girls are 11th and 14th in the overall list so it's highly likely they will be sent.
  23. Oh yes I forgot about that. Though on the coverage of the nationals Derval O’Rourke and Rob Heffernan were talking about 3 places up for grabs for men and women so they confused me as well
