pdr4332 reacted to Dunadan in Football European Super League
No worries, Juventus' owners, the Agnelli family, have been buying referees for a century. They probably still have a few hundreds of them employed as butlers in their villas and can give them a script to follow any day.

A magyar női kézilabda válogatott és Korpási Bálint (birkózás) is kijutott az Olimpiára! Soha rosszabb napot.

The other Slovenian girls jumping on Klinec and their overall happiness brought the biggest smile on me so far in 2021

Finally well deserved medal for Slovenia in women ski jumping.
Germans still don't know, how our flag look like, this is not first time.
These Worlds could really end now. ??

Congratulations for and !
Hopefully tomorrow qualifies too.
Whether or not there will be an Olympics that's now another question (I hope it will, as both our WP teams qualified

So proud that we did it! I didn't think it was possible to not qualify at the beginning of the week, but we definitely made it more difficult for ourselves and I had some doubts later on.
See you in Tokyo! Our 11th consecutive Olympic appearance in men's water polo, and 16th total!

pdr4332 got a reaction from Olympionikes in Will the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games be cancelled?
Common sense would say just let it go (that is, cancel it).
But in one hand, big time political and business interests are in play, both by the IOC, the JP government, the big TV networks, and so on.
On the other hand, it might be devastating for the athletes, some of whom might not be able to participate in the next Olympics (2024) or they will not be in a form needed for a medal or top-6 finish. The large scale boycotts of 1980 and 1984 have a lot of these personal stories.
Of course it is different to miss the OG for a once-in-a-century pandemic and a political decision.
My money is either on an Olympics with no spectators, or a cancellation in the last possible minute (say late March or so), after every alternative approach is exhausted or discarded as not viable (IOC and local organizers will deny the cancellation as long as possible, the same way they denied the postponement last year)

Yes I do think too that all games between the Big 3 are open-ended esentially, results-wise.
PS. and you have a point that it is fair to assume that CRO will beat RUS, but GRE v. MNE can go either way.

pdr4332 reacted to Makedonas in Men's Water Polo FINA Olympic Games Qualification Tournament 2021
Of course it is possible that we lose to Montenegro, but I personally think that game could go either way. I do not think it is fair to expect that Montenegro will beat us. We usually beat them or draw with them in recent years.

Hopefully the Olympics will have the same fair and transparent process to decide about disqualifications which debuted on last year's US Open...

Victory for Bots/Plume!
Considering how many athletes get unjustly hyped on this forum, it's kind of sad that B/P have been barely a footnote thus far.

Deserved win for France, they were slightly better today. But we really put up a good fight against them, and I must say, I haven't seen the male Hungarian handball team play this well since the London Olympics. Great job from everyone involved. And I hope we can continue this next year as the host of the ECh.

pdr4332 reacted to phelps in Tokyo Summer Olympic Games 2020 News
yes, it's a technical point that could be fixed in 10 minutes...
but...
tomorrow morning our Prime Minister is going to the Presidential House to resign, so the current government can't take any further action and therefore we are in the middle of nowhere...
moreover, behind that there's a political plot by those who tried to make this "reform" just to put all the money reserved for the NOC and its "armchairs" under their control...
this is why no agreement has been reached in these months...most political parties here don't care about sport at all, they just want more money and power under their control and that's it...
I'm pretty sure we're going to fix this question sooner or later (maybe even before the Tokyo olympics), but we will have to get the humiliation of being sanctioned like the last of dictatorships before we do anything...typical of this class of politicians we have right now...
