  1. We (for better or for worse) have Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir as our commentators, and Tara is super thrilled to see these three together. The question remains as to which color medal we can achieve, and can we get more than one? The Japanese women are pretty insane...but can they skate cleanly? (That's how Alysa got the Grand Prix Final gold, because the Japanese women all had some mistakes.) If I were a betting man... Men: Ilia gold (obvious...nobody will disagree) Women: Amber or Alysa will get on the podium...potentially both...but idk what color, and I don't know in what order. Amber skated cleanly at nationals, but isn't consistent...but she has the triple axel. Alysa is consistent, but doesn't have the triple axel. (Also - Alysa just broke out a new program at Nationals...might she try something crazy and try out the 3A in addition? I think only if she's super confident, and I've never seen her do it.) Pairs: No medal Dance: Chock/Bates Gold, but close to Cizeron/Fournier Beaudry. Team: Gold
  2. Their Exhibition Gala routine (at least today) was to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra version of "Shchedryk"
  3. USA Team Finalized: Men: Ilia Malinin, Andrew Torgashev, and Maxim Naumov (whose parents were killed along with many other members of the USA Figure Skating community last year on the way home from Nationals) Women: Amber Glenn, Alysa Liu, Isabeau Levito Pairs: Kam/O'Shea, Chan/Howe (our 1st and 3rd place National pairs each had one non-US citizen) Dance: Chock/Bates, Carreira/Ponomarenko, Zingas/Kolesnik
  4. Follow along with me as our summer athletes compete throughout the year. Check out my calendar here. Weeks 0-1 (Jan 1-11) These first few days saw USA athletes compete across several sports, and we ended up on the podium a fair amount. Tennis - Taylor Fritz, Christian Harrison, and Coco Gauff helped lead Team USA to a place in the Semifinals of the United Cup in Australia. (Poland, who beat us, went on to win.) For the Women in Brisbane, Amanda Anasimova got knocked out in R16, Madison Keys got knocked out in the QF (by Sabalenka), and Jessica Pegula made it to the SF (beaten by Kostyuk). Squash - We only had one competitor in the Men's tournament in Karachi Open--Shahjahan Khan, ranked #66, who didn't make it past the first round. Badminton - Beiwen Zhang made it to R16 in WS in Malaysia. And a XD team of Presley Smith and Jennie Gai made it to the QF (beaten by a Chinese duo that made it to F). Table Tennis - No luck for Kanak Jha and Lily Zhang in Doha. Fencing - Lots of luck in Fencing. Hadley Husisian took hold a Bronze in W Épée, and USA took Gold in the team bout. Elijah Imrek finished in 7th for the men. In M Sabre, Colin Heathcock got sent home in the QF by eventual runner-up Krisztian Rabb. In Foil, Alexander Massialas took home individual Gold, and helped lead the men to a Team Silver. On the Women's side, Lee Kiefer also took home Gold and helped her compatriots walk away with a Bronze. Equestrian - The Global Dressage Festival is underway in Wellington, FL. There was a North American League World Cup event there on Thursday and Friday. Christian Simonson (WR #15) won, followed by Geñay Vaughn and Ashley Holzer, all of whom represent USA. Coming up in Week 2 Tennis - Madison Keys is trying to be a repeat champ in Adelaide. And Australian Open starts in a week! Squash - Two tournaments in the USA with Timothy Brownell being the #7 seed in Detroit, and Olivia Weaver as the #1 seed in Cleveland. Badminton - In India, can we improve on last week? Swimming - We have a meet in Austin (USA Swimming Pro Series) with a lot of the top dogs. Road Cycling - Chloe Dygert, one of our accomplished Track Cyclists, will be racing in the Road Down Under next weekend.
  5. What a first tournament...so many surprises in Champions Doha #18 Jang Woojin defeats #5 Truls Moregard 4-1 in QF and #2 Lin Shidong (top seed at this tournament) in SF, only to get bageled 4-0 by #13 Lin Yun-Ju in the finals. Hugo Calderano went out in the first round, as did Alexis Lebrun . Felix Lebrun went out in the QF by Tomokazu Harimoto , who went out in SF by Lin Yun-Ju. On the Women's side, Chen Xingtong goes 4-0 against Kuai Man in SF, but loses to Zhu Yuling in F. Zhu Yuling had also taken out Wang Yidi earlier in the tournament. Wang Manyu also went out in QF to Ying Han .
  6. Watch here (43:45): (And Friedrich's mishap is at 26:00)
  7. C'mon Germany...can't even manage half the medals in St. Moritz? (5/12) Team Friedrich couldn't get one of the handles in during Run 1 and end up off the podium. Team Ammour finally gets a win.
  8. Oeberg sisters on the Podium Love seeing siblings accomplish great things together.
  9. Germany and Austria taking home lots of medals this weekend, the final WC. Italy snagged a few...none for USA unfortunately. Post 2 has all the results for the season...see you in MiCo!
  10. First non-German to crack the podium in 2-Man! Congrats Hall/Lawrence !
  11. I pretty much have finished now. I'll still be tweaking some organization (probably will make a Results tab so that current events are at the top of the Schedule tab), and I probably will be adding and potentially deleting some events (struggling with which Equestrian events to include when my focus is to keep tabs on top athletes especially USA ones, and I was relying on ChatGPT to narrow down which Road Cycling events to include...also probably need to add more Sailing events). Feel free to give any feedback or suggest any edits. The only continental things I have on there are for the Americas, since I want to maintain the focus somewhat on worldwide and/or US/(Pan-)American events. I might add other continental events on there if they're Olympic qualifiers.
  12. On the PSA website, when you click on 'Top Seeds' for a tournament, you see a list of athletes with their flag next to it. (Minor quibble: I wish they would have the flags next to the names on the Draw/Match pages as well for easy reference.) But I noticed that the Malaysian athletes just have a generic image next to their name instead of the Malaysian flag. Do any of you know why this might be? See here, and click Top Seeds: https://www.psasquashtour.com/tournament/rich-venus-karachi-open-2026/
  13. The USA just finished our trials. We're using 13 out of its 14 allowed slots, per my count. Not sure what implication this have for other nations. We're using 7 men and 6 women (but we are filling up all the slots per discipline that we're allotted, so probably other nations won't be affected).
  14. Roster updated...congrats to our athletes!
  15. Here's the rosters! https://teamusa.usahockey.com/2026olympicmenroster https://teamusa.usahockey.com/2026olympicwomenroster
  16. He also apparently hasn't been feeling well. The rules state he had to start the race, so after a disappointing (but still 1st place) 500m today, he only started the 1500m soon after and then DNFed.
  17. Here's something I've been working on the past few days. A one-stop-shop database for international events, as well as continental and national events pertinent to the USA. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12JKUCf5rHHGSfmdMYvEgzKA04n2aF76jPDWUY849B9I/edit?usp=sharing Features: Tab 1 - Calendar All columns filter-able to find anything specifically. Column A. Start Date Column B: End Date Column C: Sport Column D: Discipline Code (using the list on the Sports tab) - Use this to find when a specific event will be contested Column E: Contest Title Columns F-R: For events that have passed, you should be able to click a + box on the left to expand and see results for that event. You have which place, name, and IOC code. Also Column Q will link to highlights/replays of the event, usually on YouTube. Column S: City Column T: Country Column U: I = International event, C = Continental event, N = National event Tab 2 - Links Links to official sites, FB, Insta, and YouTube for each of the federations, as well as dates of championships for easy viewing Tab 3 - Sports List of all medal events in LA28, given a code for ease of filtering/searching It's not finished...I've done 18 sports out of 40something. Will be working on it the next few weeks. I tried to focus on those sports that are contested now. If you want to take it and add your own continental/national events, that's fine. I have a couple of other tricks/tips if you want to build your own. Also, for events like Squash, Badminton, Tennis, and Equestrian, where there are a lot of international events, I tended to only take the top few tiers (like WTA 1000, 750, and 500, but nothing less for tennis).
  18. I think technically he had to start the race in order to get the official qualification.
  19. Jordan Stolz proves he is human. Falls in the opening 100m of the 1000m Olympic Trials. (But he was pre-qualified, and he still finished 3rd overall.)
  20. Schonach (Normal Hill) competition cancelled. (Was going to be the next couple of days.) Announcement was made last month due to poor snow conditions/warmer temps. https://www.nordicmag.info/en/nordic-combined-schonach-world-cup-cancelled-1219/
  21. Roster to be revealed in just a couple of days on the Today show. https://teamusa.usahockey.com/news_article/show/1352453
