  1. He is just gloating, also said that Tchouameni shit himself It's football, not a political debate. Didn't you see The Last Dance? Everything can be used as motivation.
  2. Messi won the golden award for best athlete of the year, obviously. Only his third one, though.
  3. Lol what? That guy is just crazy, he wasn't mocking anyone. Some people here need to chill, this is football, not the opera
  4. Had to work all day, dead tired, but what a final Really happy for this team that earned it, for Messi that deserved to win one before retirement. And mostly for all the people here that has struggled a lot in the last years. There aren't many things that we enjoy and unite us as a nation and this will be an unforgettable moment for everyone.
  5. He just did physical recovery like the rest of the starting players.
  6. In those plays where there's a collision, the advantage always goes to the player that touches the ball first or against the player that doesn't touch it at all, like Livakovic in this case. That's a penalty, maybe not a big one, but it is a foul.
  7. That's just a natural motion to follow the chants. I've seen it on crowds on different countries, though, maybe not as consistent as us. Personally, I don't do it, I just sing but that's the usual way. The origin of that I don't know. Back in the day people would do it with the shirts or a scarf or something similar, so maybe it stayed over time but only with the hands. Here is a video from La Bombonera in 1954 where you can see it

  9. It only took 50 years https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1131522/matthews-ban-lifted
  10. If Argentina makes the final then it will be Marciniak I guess. An english ref would make some noise here and a dutch after what happened too... About the racism article, my two cents. The premise and the title are obviously clickbait (and it worked! It has become a topic here for the last days). It lacks some facts for context to explain the premise and the math is a bit biased to cherry pick and back the main argument. But gotta say I agree with the general idea of the article (we as a country negate our black and indigenous history) and it raises some interesting topics for debate. Historically there have been quite fewer blacks here than other countries of the continent per slave trade matters. But is also true that the political leaders of the 19th century wanted to create a "whiter" and "better" country with "anglo" immigrants (and actually most of them were instead poor italians and spanish workers ) and there has been racism and killings of indigenous people like in... about everywhere else in the world. It's true that most argentinians you'll meet are children or grandchildren of italian or spanish people that travelled here in the last 100 years. And that's why we think about ourselves as a european country in South America. But in reality most of us have some root of indigenous people as well and we are mostly a mixed of everything (black, indigenous, white, mestizos, etc.) now.
  11. Lol at Pepe crying over Tello, who had a great game.
  12. I don't like that and won't defend it, but is a bit out of context. There was a lot of heat beteween the two teams before and after the match. Right before that a bunch of dutch players jumped and tried to provoke Lautaro when he was going to kick the last penalty. And if you listen to Messi after the match, I have never seen him so mad with an opponent. It was mostly Van Gaal, but also Noppert (he said he was going to save a penalty) and Weghorst. Again, don't like it, but it was in the context of a battle from both sides.
  13. I believe Brady passed Manning for most comebacks in the 4th quarter. It's like the Bucs played garbage for 55 minutes just to pull that. And the Saints with a big choke.
  14. That'd be shocking, but I think she'll opt put anyway. The relay will be fun to see, I think the chinese can pull it again if they are in full force.
  15. The women's 400 FR is one of my top events on Paris and my bet is on McIntosh topping both Titmus and Ledecky.
  16. Summer swam a 4:28.61 in the 400 IM, a new WJR. Katinka's WR will be in serious danger next year. I'm excited to see what she can do in the 200 IM, which is like her 4th best event right now.
  17. We were one swiss goal away from having Brazil, France, England, Spain and Portugal on the opposite side of draw. Christian Fassnacht
  18. There are two possible penalties. One on Nuñez that the referee watched on VAR and didn't give it. The other one on Cavani. To me the first one was nothing, the Cavani one is 50/50. He crosses the leg on purpose, but there is a clear contact from the defender. It's up to the referees decision. The thing is that in the same match he gave a non existent penalty to Ghana watching on VAR, so the reactions from uruguayans is understandable. Also with the questionable penalty on the Portugal match.
  19. Ledecky beats McIntosh in the last race of the year (or first of the long course season, whatever...) by 0.08s. A fun one to watch next year in the Pro Swims now that Summer is based on Sarasota.
  20. I wonder if the german team in the world cup will protest against this
  21. Not according to an expert here. One could argue the defender takes a risk and knows he can stop the ball with that play, but the the rule seems to suggest it shouldn't be a penalty.
