  1. The tournament has had 8 teams for a few cycles now. All team sports have 8 countries. Uruguay (and Brazil) unfortunately lost out to Peru who basically got a free spot in a lot of team sports. Only rugby had the sense to not give them a free pass in the men's event. At least Peru avoided Argentina in both events, or else we could have gotten another 30-0 loss (for some reason I remember DR's loss in 2003 really well, I was young at the time and thought to myself why are they hosting an event they are so bad in?) lol.
  2. Milan-Cortina bid book What do the Italians think? @phelps @Gianlu33 @Sindo We also know the games will be held between Feb 6 and 22, 2026 The gender equality crap is back in the schedule.
  3. Tokyo would have still won imo. Spain was not going to host a second summer games before France (and perhaps others) got a chance. Also at the time Spain's economy was not doing well.
  4. Greco-Roman's time is more than likely done. IOC wants full gender equality for 2024 (events, everything). There is no way you can add women's greco roman by then...
  5. Lima 2019 increased its total quota by 600+ and their budget is about half of Toronto 2015. Ie. You do not need to have a cap on athletes, but other frivolous stuff. I experienced both a Pan Am Games and Winter Olympics on the ground. Obviously the Winter Olympics are bigger globally, but do you really need two separate hockey venues? They could have merged it into one and had the competition across two weeks. Branding of venues was way over the top, if you cut that budget you would save so much money. The Summer Olympics are a totally different animal. Why is it necessary to have 7! large stadiums for soccer. All of which will need staff, volunteers, security, branding etc. Even with 4 or 5, you can have a competition where the field has enough time to recover. I can go on and on...
  6. We know how the IOC works, and its not going to work. I for one absolutely hate the idea of gender equality, but we know in 2024 it will be equal. Under Bach the IOC and the Olympics have become a joke. Bring back Rogge!
  7. Football/Field hockey are the only possible team sports that can reduce quotas (Handball already subtracted one in the last quad) and all others are 12 or less. Its hard to subtract, but they need to come from somewhere.
  8. Thought of this idea for a thread. Where would you make cuts across the current core sport program to "free" up additional quotas for more sports, while making the least amount of problems possible. You cannot reduce the amount of teams in a team sport or drop a sport. Here my ideas (note: these are just ideas, and may or may not work). Artistic Swimming = Reduce the team event to only 7 per team. =10 Football: -1 in each team = 28. Additional athletes will be allowed as alternates away from the village (and for all other team sports listed below). Field hockey: -1 in each team = 24. Equestrian -9 in each discipline, which would mean a loss of three teams per event = 27. There is a disparity among the best and the lower teams. Golf = -10 in each gender. No reason why this sport needs that many per event, especially since its an individual event. =20 Artistic Gymnastics -2 in each gender, there is no reason why this sport needs this many quotas = 4 Rhythmic gymnastics -12 (bring it back to the 12 groups + 24 individuals) = 12 =115, you can add squash + maybe another sport Notes: I didn't touch the sports that received quota reductions for Tokyo 2020. I also did not touch judo as that is a very universal sport. There really isn't anything else you can do without jeopardizing the quality of the competition.
  9. lol we are going to end up with like 5 entries per event at this rate. More sports in the same quota = less athletes competing per event. Stupid idea. If you are going to add sports, increase the quota. If you do not want to do that, don't add anything.
  10. I would put my money on Spain, safe choice with experience hosting winter multi-sports events.
  11. Field hockey pools Men Pool A: Pool B: Women Pool A: Pool B:
  12. Norceca has it being held in Canada, but it never took place. My guess is that either Canada/USA withdrew and the spot auto went to the other.
  13. So COPACI allowed athletes to qualify more than one spot, which effectively screwed Belize out of a spot in cycling.
  14. will replace in the baseball qualifiers, this means the groups have changed. Group A will now be: Group B will now be:
  15. If the IIHF wants it and has the support of Canada/USA it will happen. Especially since if they smaller ice helps in bringing the NHL to Beijing.
  16. Big news: https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/international-hockey-competitions-may-move-nhl-sized-ice/
  17. Pan Am qualifier will be held in San Jose on March 11, 2020
  18. Like I said earlier, COPACI is the worst continental or international federation for information lol
  19. Made up in that there is no info to suggest how many quotas per event (sprint Keirin etc.). So if that is not published, how are the qualified teams known?
