  2. Can we finally ban this clown please? I'm sure that by this point there are users who left/never joined the forum because of all this toxicity. Most other places on the internet would not tolerate this. And don't give us that "They can create a new account!". We can all smell bestmen from one post so that would hardly be an issue.

  5. ask Peru 1978 or vs in 1982 not to mention FIFA itself fixing a lot of matches in the years thanks to corrupted refs ( Korea 2002, but also vs in 1986, vs in 1990, the 1966 Final...just to name the first games coming to my mind).

  6. @bestmen, please comment about football here. There is no point to show us the entire history of the world here (what a nation did or not did in the past). Those were the times then and we can't change those things, no matter if where bad or good. Please do not attack or insult other nations here. Please stop these kind of comments.

  12. I can't even imagine that a team can sell a World Cup match. yeah maybe it happens in one of millions boring club matches in a year (not a fan of watching the same teams playing each other 10 times a year) but World Cup is a different thing, nobody sells a WC match. I don't think Qatar can beat Ecuador but if they do that will be because of their own abilities (and maybe some referee's help ) Ecuador is not going to lose intentionally. beside that It's almost impossible to do match fixing in the biggest stage, where everybody watches every single steps. it's a team sport, it's not tennis when you can lose on purpose and nobody even notices.

  14. This story being in the forefront (as usual) now, makes me feel slightly sorry for the Qatar players. If there is no such thing and they somehow get a win, or a draw, everyone will still say they bought the match and won't give them any credit. Then they will have to beat Holland to prove them wrong

  15. pshaw, there is not enough oil in all of qatar to buy them even one goal against ecuador ! at least 10-0 tomorrow mark my words

  16. I predict 1-0 to Qatar and the goal will come in 2nd half But what if Ecuador players took money and won the game at the end I'm joking ofc

  20. Again, it's the same story with the Olympics. Speaking of Brazil, remember in 2016 when everyone was scared that Zika was going to be a major problem or that the water quality in Rio was going to make everyone sick? Actually, most people probably don't because no one talked about it after the Olympics, especially since it was a non-issue. In the lead-up to the 2022 Olympics, a lot of people were talking about human rights issues in China. Since February, I can probably count on 1 hand the number of times I've seen any mention of the Uighurs. I guess that stopped being a think after China was out of the spotlight. So yes, it'll be the same deal here. About 5 minutes after the World Cup ends, no one is going to care about Qatar anymore. Migrant worker deaths will be yesterday's news. People who are in an uproar over these things will move onto some other political issue. And the cycle will start over again until the next host country starts getting talked about.

  25. Nobody in Poland would even consider Budweiser a "beer" though. The who ra-ra stuff will go away sooner rather than later, does anyone remember the protests in 2014 when Brazil was under presssure to "hide" some of the favela poverty? Yeah, does anyone remember that eight years later? Will anyone care about Qatar's Islamic rules in 30 days time? Of course not. So let's don't pretend any uproar here will change anything because it won't.

  26. Oh don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with the general point about this (at all), but he could have mentioned almost literally any other time period than '3000 years', simply because 3000 years ago Europe was way way way behind large parts of the world (specifically the Middle East where by that time entire civilizations had already come and gone) in terms of things like having cities and 'nations' and all the consequences that come with it

  29. It is beyond mine understanding that grown up people can beleive in some ideals like whoever is in charge of organizations like FIFA would be some non corrupt freedom fighter. It's like in politics. You can't get elected if you're not in some sort of scheme and even if you aren't in the begining, you will find out pretty quickly how all of this works.

  32. I'll happily criticize the US (believe me, I do that quite a lot), but that's not the point. This is 6500 people who died preparing the country for the World Cup due to slave-like conditions. This World Cup (and other prestige projects from Qatar) cost lives. Sports should NOT do so!

  36. One thing is for sure so far, people who wouldn't normally care about the WC, or football in general are very vocal these past 2 weeks. Good thing we talk a lot at work about the teams and players, because when i go "online" the football is a little side thing. Hopefully this will change, when the matches actually start.

  39. Football popularity in India can be broken in 2-3 different groups. First, the traditional football strongholds in India: Kerala/West Bengal/Goa and North East. These regions have been the bedrock of Indian football since a long time and Football World Cup is a big deal there. Normally, you would find a lot of Brazil/Argentina fans in these regions. Also, a lot of Indians in Qatar/Middle East are from the Indian state of Kerala which is crazy about football. Second and newer group of football fanatics are the EPL/Champions League watchers in urban areas. I don't have numbers but viewership of EPL in India is quite high. And, in the recent past, I have seen that not only is this new generation consuming football and part of the online fan groups of various clubs, but is also contributing to fan driven data/tactic analysis. And in recent past with ease of following other leagues as well, other European leagues are also getting a foothold in India. And third group would be the followers of Indian football, outside the traditional regions in group 1. Those who follow Indian team and ISL. First 2 groups are excited about the World Cup. But, it is the usual excitement and not insane hype. There is not much media coverage or ad campaigns regarding WC. Normal Indian sports fan is more excited about the India-NZ T20 series but there is still a significant group which is excited about Football World Cup. And obviously, those who are residing in Qatar or other Gulf states, are really excited about the World Cup as for them it is almost like a home World Cup.
