The victory of the hosts brought the team event of dressage at the FEI Wrold Championship in Herning to a conclusion. Denmark shared the podium with Great Britain and Germany. Alltogether seven teams secured a place for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Grand Prix have been held for two days with two athletes achieving a result above 80% - Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour on Vamos Amigos (81,864%) and Charlotte Fry on Glamourdale (80,838%). They were the leaders of the teams battling for the gold. The success was on the hosts' side with Nanna Merrald Rasmussen on Blue Hors Zack (76,724%) and Carina Cassøe Krüth on Heiline's Danciera (76,863%) beating the Brits, where Fry was joined by Charlotte Dujardin on Imhotep (77,407%) and Gareth Hughes on Classic Briolinca (75,978%). The podium was completed by the title defending Germans with Ingrid Klimke on Franzikus having their result dropped as the worst in the team (75,683%) the result of 230,791% was achieved by Isabell Werth on DSP Quantaz (77,127%), Bejamin Werndl on Famoso OLD (77,003%) and Frederic Wandres on Duke of Britain FRH (76,661%). Beside the medallists, the three next teams also secured a place in the Paris 2024 Olympic team event (as well as team members starting in the individual competition). These are Sweden, Netherlands (including Dinja van Liere on Hermes - third pair of the Grand Prix with 78,835%) and USA. Another quota went to team of Australia, placed eighth, being the best from the Group G of South East Asia and Oceania with Japan in 15th and New Zealand eliminated as Gaylene Lennard's Jax Johnson haven't passed the inspection and the team had no reserve of their three-pair team. The next medal events are to be held on Monday with dressage Grand Prix Special (individual only) and the non-Olympic vaulting Squad and Individual medals to be given. I think this is the end of the Olympic legacy... now that the Olympic hype is dead and gone over any media, they're back supporting and funding basically only their traditional sports, where they know they can make the headlines on regular basis and the sponsors are always willing to invest... the obscure, unknown sports that lived on the Olympic enthusiasm and don't represent a good investment for media and sponsors now are back to the tough old days... tbh, I think they've been very good in keeping the attention high on those disciplines for quite a long time after the end of London 2012...most Nations hosting the Olympics are happy to leave "secondary" sports in their respective Countries to their own destiny the day after the end of the Home Games (and some other Nations don't even try to develop the "minor" sports...any reference to Italy is purely intentional )...1 point

One could say that Dufour lost this title on the one tempis, but more likely it was due to her decision to ride Vamos Amigos instead of the much more experienced, and more refined Bohemian. Sure, Vamos posted some nice scores in Aachen, slightly higher than Bohemian, but that was an outlier. Anyways, the new champion got slightly overscored, as it is very often the case with British riders, but hey, at least she doesn't have a fake, rehearsed persona like her more popular namesake. Fry seems to be quite shy in fact. Sort of like Rybakina of dressage. Dinja van Liere got the bronze with a hilariously inflated score. Sure, Hermes has very nice and elegant piaffe and passage, but they are still largely unpolished (doesn't matter, the judges are turning the blind eye). In transitions his legs go every-which way, more like a deer rather than a horse. And finally Isabell Werth got robbed. She should have won the bronze medal. She got demoted to 4th, basically, single-handedly by the British judge whose scores have been eye raising more often than not, to put it lightly. Hopefully he will not be returning for any major championships any time soon.1 point

...Team Goal is one Final, under normal circumstances should not be a big problem for Zapletalová, however she is just returning from a serious injury which caused her to miss the entire first half of the season, and started the preparation only last month, so very hard to predict anything, a eventual qualification for the Finals would be definitely great.... and the any last hope if there were any, is very likely gone, Emma returned after her long injury today and in her first race finished in Hungary dead last with a time over 59 seconds That is too cruel.. she was legitimatiely our biggest prospect and hope in this sport for a nice couple of years but well, what can we do... I sincerely hope she will find the way to retun to her previous seasons shape and level. Slovak athletics (and our sport in general) will really need it.1 point -

Canada at the 2022 Commonwealth Games

Canada Day 10 Review Day 10 saw Canada win 7 medals (4 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze). Overall, Canada had an okay day. Here's how we did for each sport. Athletics Canada won two gold medals. Evan Dunfee won the 10,000m race walk while our women's 4x400m relay team won after the disqualification from England. In the end, Canada finishes the sport with 7 medals, about half as many as what we had in 2018 so this was a relatively poor performance. Yes we are missing some of our top athletes, but so many of our athletes competing here just missed out on the podium. Badminton Michelle Li won her semifinal match against Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour which means Canada will be guaranteed a medal on the final day. Her opponent will be P. V. Sindhu of India. Beach Volleyball The women won gold while the men won silver. On paper Australia was our only competition so finishing in the top two was expected so I am glad our teams performed up to those expectations. Boxing Tammara Thibeault won gold in the women's middleweight to give Canada its fourth medal in boxing. While this is less than the six won in 2018, Canada sent a smaller team and this was my expectation. Cycling The road race was today. Our top performing cyclists were Pier Andre Cote (13th) and Maggie Coles-Lyster (5th) in the men's and women's race respectively. Both athletes were in it until the end so overall I am happy with their performances. Diving Canada won a silver and bronze in the men's 10m platform and women's 3m springboard respectively. Maybe it was my high expectations for our divers, but I feel they haven't been doing as well as they could. With that said, we have now matched our total from 2018. Field Hockey Canada women won the 5th place match against Scotland 3-1, capping off a good performance by the team. Hopefully this gives them the confidence to qualify to the Olympics.1 point -

Isaquias medal today was his first silver in World Championships, having already won 7 gold and 6 bronze medals. He now has 14 World medals, losing only to Cielo (19), Scheidt (17), Grael (16) and Cunha (15) as our biggest medalists ever. I think Cunha and Isaquias still have plenty of time to improve this ranking.1 point -

I can see people finding swimming a bit repetitive, but I don’t know what races you’ve been watching if you think there’s no action. There are a few events where one person dominates, but it’s not like that’s a phenomenon limited to swimming. I do agree that programs could be reworked to create more difference between events.1 point -

So... Three months after firing his first and only coach, Filip Zubčić has finally hired a new one. Some Russian dude Sergey Komarov. Career highlight is 22nd place from 2002 Salt Lake City... in the combined... out of 25 finishers. Previously coached Russian women, Bulgarian men and Polish men. So, yeah, absolutely zero experience with skiers who have climbed WC podiums. This just seems like a ludicrous decision. I think Zubo is not coming back ever after this.1 point -

Don't know if this news has made it big elsewhere, but last week UK Sport announced it is removing funding for alpine and nordic skiing in the next Olympic cycle to 2026. They have offered a minimal amount, but it is nowhere near enough to sustain elite programmes for GB at a global level. As a British ski racing fan, I can't describe how disappointing and nonsensical this is. In the last decade, British ski racing has gone from virtually invisible to World Cup podiums & points on a regular basis. Dave Ryding became our first ever World Cup winner last season and, although he is likely to retire after next season, there's a huge amount of new talent in the pipelines - Raposo, Major, Taylor, Tilley and Guest all scored points last year. Without funding, Britain might not even be able to send teams to compete on the World Cup next season. We're praying on UK Sport reversing their decision or a very rich person's benevolence. As an addition, UK Sport's method of allocating funding is utterly ridiculous and needs to be changed. It gave us a short term boost of medals in recent years but I don't think it's a viable long term strategy. Funding decisions are short-sighted and based almost entirely on performances on one day every four years at the Olympics.0 points
