  3. Lois Toulson will get the second quota. Although Eden Cheng won the quota at the European Games, without being disrespectful, she is generally about 20-30 points behind Toulson. From GB perspective, think the women's 10m platform pairing will definitely double up but there is a chance in the other 3 disciplines that they select 3 athletes: Women's 3m: Harper and Mew-Jensen will be the synchro pairing and will be favourites for the individual spots but it is possible that Grace Reid could sneak into the squad as an individual. Men's 3m: Laugher and Harding will go in the synchro and assuming that Laugher is fully recovered from knee injury he'll also be in the individual. There could be a bit of a fight for the second individual spot with Harding, Houldan and Goodfellow all in the mix. Men's 10m platform: Assuming they qualify here, the synchro pairing will be Daley and Williams. If Daley wants to double up, then he would be favourite for a spot in the individual but if not then Kyle Kothari (competing in the individual in Doha) could be on the squad, but there are quite a few platform divers who are all capable of scoring around mid-400s. The GB selection policy gives an individual quota to the British Champion but the second spot is at the discretion of the selection panel taking into account performances at the British Champs and the 3 stages of the Diving World Cup.

  4. Interestingly enough, San Marino is ranked in 210th and last place, which is a great way to show the nonsense of this ranking system....I have not a single doubt that they'd run circles around at least 30-40 of the teams above them (but who I assume get easier points by playing easier matches?) https://www.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking/men

  12. I think we don't need to assume at this point, Russia is banned in team events, there is no more qualification opportunities in artistic swimming and the IOC has been very clear there wouldn't be "make up" qualification opportunities for Russia. So for the first time since 1996 we'll have Olympic gold medalists in artistic swimming who aren't from Russia or ROC.

  13. Men’s and women’s ice hockey teams have qualified for Milano-Cortina 2026 already! Men’s ice hockey team qualified by virtue of their position in the IIHF World Ranking, following the conclusion of the 2023 Men’s Ice Hockey World Championships. Women’s ice hockey team qualified by virtue of mathematically being guaranteed a quota through the IIHF World Rankings, following the 2024 Women’s Ice Hockey World Championships, as they can’t fall behind Japan. Also, if you didn’t see @Topicmaster1010 ’s reply on the Ice Hockey 2023-24 Discussion Thread, NHL players are back

  18. I’m so happy for her, she’s been improving and I really think she’s a step ahead of others divers, except the Chinese of course, and this time she proved it. Also Jodoin di Mariah did a great competition and looks like she could grow even more.

  19. How on earth we can have this kind of stupid rules. 136 places, so we have 68 per gender. And next we should give quotas until we have 68 male and 68 female divers.

  20. Without further guesses, and until all synchro teams are confirmed, here’s what the theoretical women quotas in platform as of today would be: 23 Qualified divers before 2024 WA Championships: 2 (synchro only) 4 (synchro + 2 individuals) 4 (synchro + 2 individuals) 3 (synchro + 1 individual) 2 individuals 2 individuals 1 individual 1 individual 1 individual 1 individual 1 individual 1 individual - - - - - - - - - - - - - 8 2024 WA Championships synchro pairs not previously qualified (in finishing order): ? - - - - - - - - - - - - - 3 (4)2024 WA Championships individual finalists not previously qualified (in finishing order): 1 individual 1 individual 1 individual 1 individual So we already have 35 divers, but given Jade Gillet seems to be doubling in the synchro events, I think these quotas can be taken for granted.

  21. with a PSO win over , that may be enough to avoid a potential clash with or in the playoff round. There's a good chance the Olympic qualifiers may be decided by the quarterfinalists rather than needing the 9-12 matches.

  24. Currently yes - but bear in mind that the score for the European and African nations are inflated by the inclusion of their continental championships whilst their nearest competition - Canada and New Zealand still have theirs to come. By the end of this month, Oceania and Asian continental champs will have taken place but we have to wait until early April for the Pan-American champs.

I lived out East back then, only ended up seeing one match (the - Ro16 that was played in driving rain in Moncton). It was a great experience though, honestly seeing an event as big as the WWC in was super special.

  48. I really hope we can qualify the team, but I know it will be extremely difficult. Still, it's good to see we seem to be on the right path. It is especially important for us because Tokyo was the first time we qualified since 2004, and our girls didn't even get to compete because of multiple positive COVID cases in the team. They were really young too, so it was important to make it in 2024 so they would get the chance. Unfortunately, the team now has mostly new girls. Of the 9 girls from Tokyo, only 3 are still with us, and one is Platanioti who has already competed at the Olympics 3x (and will be a part of the duet for Paris assuming we qualify at least for that). Papazoglou was dropped from the national team after 2021, but she at least got to go to Rio (duet) and competed in the duet preliminary in Tokyo so I don't feel as bad (though she was very offended when the national team dumped her). Karamesiou and Vasilopoulou were also dropped after 2021, even though they were just teenagers they basically had to end their careers. Then Misikevych was dropped after 2022, also a teenager. Then after 2023, another two teenagers were dropped (Fragkaki and Gialama) and afterwards they spoke out about how they were mistreated by the federation etc. So really it is a messy situation, and even if we make it, it will be mostly new girls so qualification won't really feel like the "redemption" we hoped for...
