How can you have a trend based on one event however stupid? GB actually have a good record of turning up for events even in the face of terrorism. Australia not so much.

The problem is, GB doesn't host the Olympics so their opinion is totally irrelevant what Japan does. The old Empire feelings must be very strong, back when London decided what happens in over half of the world. It must stink you've lost that power to tell other people what to do ;)

No, it's not really that, it's about surveys institute asking useless questions to people who most likely will not have a clue and/or are not interested by the question to begin with so that they have something to sell to newspapers. It's how their business works.

We had a similar irrelevant survey in France a few weeks ago

The question that should be asked in surveys is how people feel about healthy athletes potentially getting those important vaccines before people in need.

And IOC has to think about if having the Olympics this year will seriously damage the brand of the Games or not. We are not that far off from the Games and there are some quite serious COVID restrictions in place in many countries that are damaging businesses. It will reflect on quite terribly for everyone involved if these restrictions will be still in place, but the event involving thousands of athletes from around the world can just go ahead.

Even on smaller scale this is real, people are pissed here in Hungary that the end of the restrictions are nowhere near in sight while we are hosting the Champions League matches of some rich Western clubs like they are more important than regular folks.

In the UK that hasn't been a political issue so far

While I agreee that putting athletes in the front of the vaccine line would be problematic, I would say that it would also be problematic to cancel an event due to some who are pissed. There'll always be people complaining on social media. That's not gonna change!

Rumors saying the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics games will be without foreign spectators. Only local audience will be allowed. IOC should apparently announce it officially within a week

This is the minimum rational decision which can be taken at the moment (they can decide more flexibly to what extent they allow Japanese spectators based on the situation in say, May or June - for local spectators it requires less planning in advance to attend)
It has to be announced as soon as possible. This is like ripping off the band aid - it has to be done quickly.

  • Latest Posts around Totallympics

    • They do have the by far best current Dutch NHL player though
    • Took a couple of videos, but completely forgot to take even a single picture and the file size of the videos are too big for Totallympics so I had to find a site to upload it to   https://streamable.com/ga23lv   Vibes at the game were good, place was loud, and I downed a $6 poutine from Costco before the game. Unfortunately, the game didn’t go so well, it took us a solid 45 minutes to actually start playing hockey besides some bursts here and there, and after coming back from down 1-3 we gave up the OT goal less than a minute in (Typical Canucks fashion), but  Lankinen stole us a point, they had so many solid opportunities on him and we had no business staying close.    Really mediocre start to the season for the Canucks so far, even with 11 points in 8 games, a lot of players not showing up (Petey, Soucy, Myers, Hög, Miller, DeBrusk, although for DeBrusk he’s been known to have a streaky game) and our power play and overtime have been fucking dogshit (power play has been like this for years). Shoutout to Garland, Hughes, Sherwood and Lankinen though they’ve been incredible so far
    • Hi I see this now. When is the draw? What do you need me to do?
    • North Korea and the US played the first semifinal at the U17 World Cup last night:
    • Happy New York Yankees elimination day to those who celebrate!
    • Sorry, I was at work. Starting tomorrow thru Sunday is busy busy days here with Halloween, All Saints Day, Día de Muertos, so I might no be around the whole weekend. Good thing the final got postponed.
    • Announcement   It is with regret that I have to postpone the final till at least 10th November. This is not a fixed date and is likely to be moved to the following week. The delay is due to jurors not having voted yet and preparations on the final weekend still not having been completed. The draw is still set to take place tomorrow but there is chance this could be moved day by day until preparations are complete.    With this latest announcement @Gianlu33 and @LDOG if you would like to rejoin the contest with this recent change then you are more than welcome to do so.
    • While we're waiting, let me casually drop the music from the two countries I mentioned earlier. I wasn't sure if Mongolia has ever been featured in a festival of music segment, but East Timor / Timor Leste never has, plus I've been watching their English-language TV stations lately, hence the choice for both countries   Anyway, here's       And     I haven't decided on two other countries, but I'll get back to you on that
    • Haven't done this in a while.   Count me in, I'm game.
    • I just need you to pick 2 teams from each of my tables once I've set them up, should be ready to go in 15 minutes (taking longer than I thought) and hopefully by then more people will volunteer so that we can get things moving quickly.
