I love how everyone from every country always feels like their country is performing badly. Which is just impossible, because if every country performs badly, we're going to be left with medals that aren't won by anyone :p

I feel like many here *vastly* over estimate their countries chances before the games/events, so when they don’t reach those unrealistic projections, it feels like a disappointment to the posters

in the specific case of this championship, in Italy there were no big expectations, but still Stano and/or Fortunato in the men's 20km are at least a missing medal

Palmisano instead got an expected medal (despite all of her injuries, she's way better than any other active specialist and she's always asked to win, also when she's not at 100%)

on the other hand, Fabbri won an unexpected silver in the men's shot put (but Weir had troubles when he was expected to fight for the medals), meanwhile Iapichino is definitely the biggest disappointment so far...she should have won at least silver (and she was clearly expected way over 7 meters)

in the 1500m, we expected Arese to make the men's final (and nothing more, tbh) and he didn't, but we got Cavalli in the women's final, which is probably one of the biggest surprises of the championship so far

Osakue and Ihemeje are in their respective final, which was their initial target...we'll see how they go, but a top 8 placing would be already a great achievement

up to you to decide if this is beyond expectations, a fair balance or "underperforming"...

With  these expectations  it will  be' always a disappointment,  Fortunato fighting  for a medal  probably  only in a dream,  Stano  always  struggled  in 20km after  and before Tokyo,  Iapichino expected  well over  7m? Hey? She was ona of the  6 or 7 medal contenders , she has a personal best  shorter  or similari to the other  athletes   Arese expected  in final? He had something around  50th time  this year,  he surely  could  have done  the final  but its note a disappointment,  there are at east 10 boys clearly  better than him who didnt  make the final.

For the other sport  I agree  with you  that Italy  isnt  overperforming  at all, there are some surprising medals, but  also many other medal contenders  who didnt  bring  anything  at home.

Heat wave in Hungary atm, currently 34 C in Budapest even at 18:00, thankfully the evening program will start late at 18:40.

The heat wave will likely end on Friday.

Finally they removed the live results graphic, which was all but correct during first two days.

It was a request from the biggest TV broadcasters and the organizers accepted it today. according our commentator Alfonz Juck (yes finally our TV started to cover the champs, thanks god. I like this guy, he is an athletics super-expert. and knows also world flags which is obviously the most important for me :p)

What is it with athletes in the 400 m, that never attempt to run both individual events? Shorter sprinters do the double, middle distance runners do the 800/1500, long distance runners to the 5000/10000, or 10000 and the marathon in some cases.

Warholm and Bol are generational talents, who could very well run them both. Especially since the heats are basically a training run for them. Granted the organizers will have to help with not scheduling both events in the same days.. And don't say it's a hard endurance race of.... 50 seconds, where if you run once in 2 days you are spent for the rest of the week. There are harder demanding sports, than the 400 m, like cross-country and biathlon where athletes are competing 3 consecutive days.

Yes, you need technique for the hurdles, which makes the option very limited to pure flat sprinters. But the hurdle specialists like Warholm and Bol souldn't have issues attempting both events, especially when they have top results in both of them.
