They  ride almost  the italian record,  in Paris  they  will be' able  to ride around 4.08 low or 4.07 high , it wont  be' enough  for gold,  bit they are definetely  very big medal contenders , there isnt  anything  to be' worried  about,  they will be focusing  on track in lastre 2 months  ( I hope also Balsamo will forget  the olympic road race)

They dont have this kind of policy, if they have the number 3 of the ranking they bring them to the olympics. Ranking Is not a backup , Is a different and more significant way toqualify for Olympics, Who qualify via ranking Is qualified on the field , every sport should have many more places given by ranking and less spot given in random 1 shot race or tournament.

Its Better than expected, a lot Better, 2 medals not easy, one 4th place,5 olympic pass was what we expected considering LW2 completely out of shape for serious health problems and that we Lost all our wonderful boys on 4- and 2- with new crews and quite young for man rowing, we presented also a very good  women 8 that could go go to Paris if NZ and Netherlands Will not partecipate il Luzern. We can add 1 male and 1 women boat in Luzern and some chance also for men single.

Italy had a great team in rowing, only man rowing, now everybody Is retiring and we are struggling, i see only 3 men boat in Paris. Canoeing has Always been less important than rowing in Italy, if we dont consider the 90's we have Always  been very weak, and in this period we were Better in 200 with Rizza and Di Liberto. Strangely we now are better in canoe where we really never existed than kayak where we had people like Rossi,,Bonomi, Scarpa dominating the 90.

Pretty big , Italy has a good advantage over Spain , Spain needs something big next week and Italy another disaster , otherwise Italy can win the pass already next week.

Someone with quite close knowledge of judo on another forum answered my question and now that I saw the replay, it is clear: Pinot grabbed/touched Niizoe's leg during that move, which is not allowed and results in a shido, which was indeed awarded after the ippon was waved off (her second shido of the fight).
 
No conspiracy, no referee mistake, no referee deciding to 'correct' another result, just a judoka making an unallowed move and so not getting the ippon. All good.

But it does happening, Italy doubled last year medal count, which was also a double of 2021, and in 2019. there were no medals. I think that you are overestimating Italian team, which leads to unrealistic expectations.
 
If that level is "not in top 5", I think she is there. I don't know why are you underestimating both her and Keldiyorova, calling them clean highway. I would say that in a past year Keldiyorova performed better then Giuffrida. Giuffrida losing to Pupp gave here slightly easier path to bronze.
 
After Ono Shohei retired there is no "clearly strongest man" in 73. I remember Lombardo beat Abe once (Paris GS '19), when was the second time? And he is not the only man capable, but that is beside the point. He is definitively one of the best, which he proved to be in this competition. Same goes for Bellandi. Even if they both are the best of their divisions (I don't agree, but whatever) it is not that big of difference between athletes at the top in most categories. There are very few competitors that will win consistently against anybody, Lombardo and Bellandi ain't one of them, and I don't think they should be criticized for that.

Since I've been following judo, Italy is winning 0-2 medals at the World Championships (more often 0 then 2). What you call "meh" is probably most medals Italy has won in 67 years of the World Championships.
Giuffrida and Bellandi beating Olympic champions is bare minimum? Lombardo going trough two European and one Asian champion is bare minimum? Underperforming?

As always it's a bit of a puzzle who celebrates Christmas on which days (or not at all) on such a diverse online place as Totallympics, but I'm pretty sure nobody celebrates it on 23 December already. Considering it's Friday and for a large portion of people this is probably the last working day before the holidays, it seems like as good a moment as ever to wish everyone Merry Christmas!
