This means we get a cut of the $40 million USD profit that one website said Totallympics was operating at, right? :p

:NED Ireen Wüst

SPEED SKATING

Regarded as the most successful speed skater ever, Ireen Wüst first achieved a spot in the Dutch Olympic team in 2006. In Turin, she became the youngest Dutch gold medalist at the Winter Games, starting a sequence of results that would made history. Winning at least one gold medal in each of her Winter Olympic appearances, she is the only athlete to win an individual gold medal in five consecutive Olympics, Summer or Winter. Not only she is the most successful athlete from the Netherlands at the Olympics, in Beijing she also became the oldest Speed Skating gold medalist in the history of the Winter Games. "Words can't describe her class", said fellow competitor Brittany Bowe after the 1500m event at the 2022 Olympics; "she is the greatest of all-time, as her performance shows". Indeed, Wüst's career more than earned her a place in our Hall of Fame.

And that's only half of how incredible her career is, she is also a 7-time world allround champion (plus five more medals, tying the all-time record of 12 medals in an event in which one can only win one medal per year) and an incredible 15-time single distance world champion (although personally I'd say the allround golds mean more).

Truly legendary athlete.

(but deserved of course, I don't follow ice hockey enough to really know, but from what I'm reading he is truly a remarkable athlete!)

    • First, they lost the medal in the short dance, where their performance were also the worst in the season,   Second, since they had a good free dance, with which they won silver and bronze at the World Championships in previous years (with the result from 2023 it would be another silver today), why experiment and invent something new? You don't change what works well - better is the enemy of good,   The facts are that the Italian pair achieved a worse result at the World Championships than at the European Championships and generally had a weak season, and assuming the return of strong Russians, to win a medal they will need to score around 216-217 points, or maybe more.
    • LIIGA Playoffs   1st Round Results (Best-of-5 Series)   SaiPa Lappeenranta (5) b. TPS Turku (12)  3-2 (1-2; 2-6; 3-0; 2-1; 3-2 OT)   Sport Vaasa (11) b. KooKoo Kouvola (6)  3-1 (3-1; 0-3; 2-1; 4-2)   Ässät Pori (7) b. HPK Hämeenlinna (10)  3-0 (3-2; 2-1 OT; 5-1)   Tappara Tampere (9) b. K-Espoo (8)  3-2 (0-1; 6-1; 2-5; 2-1; 4-3 OT)
    • That dance crap, which is a sport of robbery, this year confirmed that it is a mafia. The Italians have dared so much by presenting a programme very different from the classical standards (and I don't like it) and the judges are harshly and rightly beating them up. Fabbri and Guignard have already announced that they will return to classic programmes next year (and magically they will be back on the podium). A discipline decided at the table.     Do you want bet something?

    • Extraliga Playoffs   Quarterfinals Results (Best-of-7 Series)   HC Sparta Prague (1) b. HC Oceláři Třinec (10)  4-1 (4-3 OT; 2-1; 2-3; 4-3 OT; 3-2)   Mountfield HK (2) b. BK Mladá Boleslav (9)  4-3 (1-2; 0-2; 4-3; 3-2 OT; 4-2; 5-6 OT; 3-0)   HC Dynamo Pardubice (3) b. Banes Motor Č. Budějovice (6)  4-0 (3-0; 4-2; 6-2; 2-1 OT)   HC Kometa Brno (4) b. HC Energie Karlovy Vary (5)  4-2 (3-4 OT; 3-2; 2-0; 0-1; 5-3; 1-0)
    • The Italian pair have a disastrous performance: the score is much worse than at the European Championships and also than at the previous 2 World Championships. In general, they have been doing worse at every World Championship since 2023. Assuming that in 1 year one Russian pair returns at a high level, the chances of an Olympic medal are almost zero.
