Hi Group,

I wasn't sure where best to post so thought I would chuck it in here.

I'm new to this forum from the mighty GB. I just wanted to say how much I rate this page and was blown away by the work that has gone into making it what it is today.

I have a love for virtually all summer Olympic sports and have been checking in regularly to see how the shape up for Paris is looking.

If there is anything I can do to help out let me know.

Welcome! You have been invited to join the Team GB club, a sub-section of the forum for :GBR users where you can discuss about all sports, results, Olympic hopes and so on. Please check your notifications to join it :yes

Hi Sindo, yes it was the same when i signed out too. I checked through a different browser, which i don't typically use and all the forums appeared there.

I cleared the cookies and data from my default browser and it fixed the problem. It appears, than when the arrows for collapsing / expanding the sections were removed, i had only the Winter Sports section expanded and that is the one, that stayed visible. The others, which were collapsed disappeared.

Why did we get rid of those by the way? I found it very useful, because the pages were loading faster and then you could expand on the sub-forums you were looking for.

Good that the problem is now fixed.

I did not get rid of those arrows. I will investigate to see if it possible to have them back, but I fear they have been removed in one of the software updates, and if that is the case there is no way I can add them again.

When you go to Forums, are the different sections missing for anyone else? Or is it just me. When the latest replies end, it just goes to the Winter sports forums directly. Nothing before, nothing after them?

Mmm no, this is very weird and it should not happen. The first thing I ask you to check is, does the same happen when you are NOT logged in? If that does not happen, it might be a problem related to your user group, and I would easily fix that. If it happens also when you are not logged in, it might be a bigger problem.

So please let me know this and then I will update you.

Thank you!

Seriously, doesn't one have to be a bit...'off'....let's say, to think registering on what is very clearly a forum will register for an actual international sports event? :p

Some people find calendar events (example: https://totallympics.com/events/event/29673-sprint-canoeing-cac-african-championships-2023/) through a google search, so they do not even surf the website and they just ask for information about that event. I often receive e-mail from athletes/coaches asking how can they register to that event :d Of course it does not happen to Wimbledon or FIFA World Cup event, mainly for smaller tournaments especially in sports like Taekwondo where I have added to the calendar lots of events because they are qualifiers for Paris 2024.

Welcome

:MOZ @Rachid Bond @Victor fenisse

:TGA @kolofoou

we didn't have any active MOZ users so we are waiting for your posts! How is sport in MOZ these days? Do you have any new athletics talents like great Maria Mutola??? and how is your canoe program? is it developing?

and we didn't have any active TGA users either! how's your boxers? any chance for qualification for Paris in boxing? and then hopefully another olympic medal? and how do you find your rugby Men's Sevens olympic qualification chances? are they able to make it to Paris in your opinion?

Nice to see new NOCs on the board here! WELCOME!

You need to know most of the users who register are actually spammers, or users who find an event they are interested in the calendar section and think by registering to the website they register to take part in the event :p

We might have a legit new :ALB user here, though! @Erigert You are not a spammer, are you?

Change the width/length of cells. Change the font size and color. Change the background color of cells. Change the strength of the table border.

It is not possible to change the width/lenght of a single cell, but only of the whole column/row. As for the rest, it is possible to edit more cells at the same time only by selecting them before doing the edit, and you can select multiple cells only if they are close to each other..

As a general rule anyway, it is always better and quicker to copy-paste from a similar table and then edit what you need to edit. For any specific request don't hesitate to contact me in private, I am quite expert with tables editing :d

Is there any way to edit more than one cell at a time on a table? I refuse to work at a snail’s pace.

To edit more than one cell at a time on a table, just select more of them before editing them. Of course this is possible only on cells which are close to each other. What exactly do you need to do?

HI, just wanted to ask, does this forum have an option to switch to a darker theme? If so how?

Not right now, but I will take it as a suggestion for the future. Adding a dark theme would be quite easy, the problem would be to adapt all the customizations to the theme.

I’m assuming it has to do with a recent update, but is there anything that can be done about the massive amount of dead space on posts now?

I have reported the problem but it looks like this was the result they wanted: https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/473244-dead-space-on-posts/

And I tend to agree with them, especially in the answer from this post: https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/473244-dead-space-on-posts/?do=findComment&comment=2937900

The empty space is the same as before, but it is just spread differently. I am sure it is just a matter of getting used to the new system.

Yes, there has been an update yesterday. I think this is just a matter of getting used to it. On desktop view, the height of the post is linked with the profile view on the left, so when the post is just one line of text, there will be some blank space before the end of the post.

@Sindo Maybe you accidentally also added Club topics to the latest replies? Or was that intended?

I think all the club topics are now shown in the latest replies, even topics from clubs that we aren't member of.

I have actually asked for a (paid :d ) plugin which avoid this. You should now see the clubs' replies from clubs you are signed in in the latest replies box, but only for those clubs you are in. So if you are in the Hungary club you will see latest replies from Hungary club, but you will not see latest replies from the Argentina club.

In the home page this plugin was already enabled, I have seen from the "Forums" page it wasn't and I have enabled it as well. Can you try again now? Both in the home page and in the Forums page.

Where have the clubs disappeared? I can't find an access anywhere.

That's weird. We have created customised widgets so that users can see customised content according to the club they are signed in. So I guess you are not in the Croatian club? :yikes: Once you join the club, you will see the latest replied thread in the home page and across the forum. And also another block in the home page with the latest replies of the club(s) you are part of.

Please join Team Croatia forum and let me know if you see them.

If you remember for 2012 Olympics, we had this mega post at the beginning of the national thread which listed all events of the Olympics. In that we would list whether the nation in question has qualified or in contention for qualifying or out of qualification. Users can tweak the table and give links to individual sports qualification threads or qualification tournaments thread. And so on....

Yes, I remember. But I think this is not necessary anymore now that we have a tracker for each nation. If this is not enough, in their national clubs users can have a more detailed one. Like the example with Ireland, you can start from the general tracker and then customise it adding more information.

Personally, I like the current version of tracking. I followed the suggested links, everything is cool. But take the USA page - it's not as full as the Ireland page...

That's because the Ireland page has been customised by @OlympicIRL . He started from the normal Qualification Tracker and then added some features, changed the colors etc. I think it's normal that working only on one nation you can add more details, @Matej is dealing with 200 nations :d

Welcome to Totallympics by the way!

Regarding the national trackers, is it time to bring back the 2012 national tracker? You, with help of others, could make the default one and then interested users can maintain their national trackers.

What do you exactly mean with national tracker?

Now we have a tracker for each nation with a dedicated page. All the national trackers can be found here:https://totallympics.com/qualification-tracker/paris-2024/qualification-by-nation/

So let's take the USA  National Tracker for example: https://totallympics.com/qualification-tracker/paris-2024/qualification-by-nation/united-states-of-america/qualification-tracker-r1245/

These trackers are updated almost in real time by @Matej

Each user can start from these trackers and if they want to customise it for their own nation they can do it in their national club. For example, here is what @OlympicIRL did in the Team Ireland club: https://totallympics.com/forums/topic/15109-team-ireland-paris-2024-qualification-tracker/

Since these categories, threads and discussions are what Totallympics is all about, I would at least try to somehow highlight the forums tab or have an additional way on the home page to access them

"Forums" is the first navigation bar option after "Home". And you can also get to the forums' main page easily from each thread.

Right now it feels like the news take priority over the discussions, since they're easier to access and larger on the screen.

As I said, blocks can easily be moved, so when there are no new article the "Latest replies" block will be moved on the top of the page.

This sounds perfect, and surely something that has to be done. Can it be connected with the national club, if not to the declared nation of user?

Yeah, as I said probably the easiest thing would be to connect it with the club the user is in. But this is not something easy, because we would need a block for each nation. Probably the easiest thing would be to show a link to the nation's qualification tracker (for example Hungary: https://totallympics.com/qualification-tracker/paris-2024/qualification-by-nation/hungary/qualification-tracker-r1134/

Could you make the scrolling for the news section slightly slower?

I agree it was too fast.  It is not possible to make it slower, but I have removed the automatic scrolling. Users can easily scroll to the following news anyway, and in this way the latest news are always shown first.

1 hour ago, JoshMartini007 said:

Also, are you able to add a link to the header? If not can you make the Totallympics News more prominent on the tool bar at the top of the page?

Yes, that would be possible. But the link to Totallympics News is easily reachable clicking the "Discover" menu. The home page of the News is not that important anymore now that the block with the latest news is shown in the home page. Having "Totallympics News" in the navigation bar would take lots of space in the bar.

Here's an idea for future updates (not sure if it's possible): having the qualification tracker of our own nation up there with the overall tracker. Like, below the "Paris 2024 Qualification Tracker" have a Hungarian qualification tracker if the user is Hungarian. (I mean, for now it would say "0 quotas in 0 sports", but I think you get the idea. :d)

That would be a good idea. Not too easy to realize though. Probably it is something which should be linked with the club the user is part of.

Anyway there is a direct link to the Paris Qualification by Nation (https://totallympics.com/qualification-tracker/paris-2024/qualification-by-nation/), from which is very easy to find your nation and open the tracker. But thank you for the suggestion, I will see if it is possible to add something like that in the future.

The 'Latest Articles from Totallympics News' part is....very present, so to say.

I was always happy Totallympics is usually a fairly easy place to avoid spoilers (apart from the few disappointing times during things like Olympics where people feel the need to mention the results of a country in sport X in the thread of sport Y), but almost literally the entire screen is now filled with the news part instead of the forum part.

There is of course the /forums link you posted, so with the news item being this large, I'll definitely change my bookmakers to that so the whole screen will be filled with forum threads again, but since you asked for feedback.... :p

Not trying to be negative by the way: I do think this news part has a place and is an excellent addition to Totallympics as a whole, I'm just not sure this specific place is the right one in terms of keeping the main feel of Totallympics being a forum.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, the article part is very "present" now, but I think this is the only way to give visibility to the articles written by our users. They spend time on it, so I think they deserve visibility.

(By the way: if anyone else wants to contribute with articles from time to time just let me know!)

But these are all "blocks" which can be easily moved (literally very easily, just by drag and drop with my mouse). So I can choose on a daily/weekly basis what to have on top. My general idea was to have the news articles for the first hours an article has been posted, and move the "latest replies" block on top when there are no new articles in the last hours/days. And then I can move on top a prediction contest the day before the prediction deadline, the Totallympics Song Contest in the week of the contest etc.

Of course this would not avoid spoilers, but I'm sure you can find a way skip spoilers if you want to. Also, the articles are usually not feeds about last minute results, rather they are some reviews of some competition ended some hours before.
