  17. I don't want to be that guy, but... isn't this song from 2017? (I might be wrong)
  18. But those movie were arguably more accessible/popular that their competition (Boyhood/Three Billboards), unlike Roma which was an "artsy" movie in style compared to its close competitors. I'm not saying language hasn't played its part, but I see maybe in the next decade that barrier being broken - or at least I hope so. Anyway, of the last 6 best Director prizes, 5 went to mexicans (2x Cuarón, 2x Inarritu, 1x del Toro). So I guess del Toro wins the next one
  19. Well, I think it has more to do with the content than the fact that is foreign. Times have changed a little and something like Life is Beautiful (just naming an extremely popular foreign Best picture contender from the past) could win in a year like this. But yes, that plays a huge difference + it was a Netflix movie and the Academy maybe doesn't want to award one of their productions in the big category. Still, 3 Oscars is something to be proud of.
  20. Btw, edited my predictions with the winners. 19/24 correct guesses, which is my best result in years, but AGAIN picked the wrong Best Picture (I suspect it was a toss-up between those two). Of the 5 wrong predictions, my alternate prediction was the winner. Overall, a night with some good awards but I can't really get into Bohemian Rhapsody winning FOUR oscars, more than any other movie. That movie was pretty lame. Sad for Close but Colman had the best performance + the speech was great + it was the only surprise of the night (in a ceremony which I hoped for much more unexpected results).
  21. Roma losing wasn't an upset. As I said earlier, I was almost sure they would reward a more popular movie than Roma.
  22. Even though she isn't my favourite this year, I want her to win. The performance is great + she deserved this a long time ago. Watch out for Olivia Colman though.
  23. Today is the Oscars so here I am with my predictions. This year I managed to watch 33 of the 37 feature films nominated, and all 15 shorts, for a total of 48/52 (or 92%). In the last 2 years, I had 17/24 correct guesses, but missed Best Picture in both. Today, I'm not so sure about the big award either. I'm going with Roma, but this is kind of a "artsy" movie that the Academy members could ignore and go with something more accessible/popular like Green Book or Black Panther (or even Bohemian Rhapsody, which can very well win the most Oscars tonight and take the title of worst winner ever). ["will win" is my prediction / "could win" is my alternate prediction / "should win" is my personal ranking from what I've watched / "shoud have been nominated" is a way to remember other notable work].
  24. Following various inspection visits by FIFA and further meetings with the Peruvian Football Association (FPF), and in view of a number of organisational and infrastructure challenges linked to the event delivery, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has decided that the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2019 will no longer be staged in Peru. No official confirmation yet but Brazil should host the competition, because according to Conmebol it is the only south american nation capable of hosting in short notice (it will host the Copa América just a few months earlier, so probably the same venues will be used).
  25. Just because the games aren't taken seriously in the US doesn't mean they (Team USA) don't care. More often that not they send their best team in many sports, even the ones that don't qualify for the Olympics. Just look at the Taekwondo competition of 2015, for instance, with multiple Olympic medalists.
