  1. I’ve said it before, but if an IF’s main competition tour is only going to be in one continent (Europe or Asia in most cases), then they shouldn’t be allowed to use the term “World Cup.” European teams/athletes/fans always complain about competitions outside Europe, but just imagine how athletes from Pan America, Africa, Asia, or Oceania feel.
  2. It would be interesting to know. I feel there are a lot of “single” users on here, but maybe I’m wrong. I know of at least one other user with kid(s), but I’m not sure if that is public info or not.
  3. I haven't found any concrete info on that yet. In the past, they've offered very limited streams. Hopefully they'll offer more this edition.
  4. Wow, quite a few multi-sports games without hosts heading into the next cycle. Hopefully we’ll see a lot of news on that front this year. It does seem like there’s interest from a few nations in hosting the Pan American Games at least. I still think LA should take it as a test event, but that’s just a selfish and unrealistic desire to have them in my backyard essentially (Plus, I wouldn’t wish anymore strain on my local communities anyway.)
  5. Seems like a nice tune to play in the background while your wife does an interview or your son walks the dog
  6. I always assumed it was cat(?) jousting with hockey sticks based on your avatar
  7. A significant number of reallocations were made in short track speed skating. The document is quite confusing though: https://isu.org/inside-isu/isu-communications/communications/32814-isu-communication-2608/file @intoronto
  8. will send a female biathlete to Gangwon @heywoodu 12 athletes in total: https://eldeportero.cl/revisa-nomina-team-chile-juegos-olimpicos-invierno-juventud/
  9. One of my favorite events/traditions growing up near LA was the “Tournament of Roses Parade.” Here’s some highlights (and maybe a replay?) of this year’s edition: https://ktla.com/news/rose-parade/watch-the-2024-rose-parade-live-stream/amp/
  10. I shall add a tip of a hat to @vinipereira I can already we’re entering awards season since I’m displeased with some of the winners
  11. The Canadians definitely colluded to get themselves all a star recognition Deserved for each of course
  12. Last “Totallympics time zone.” No one has traveled to Hawaii to stop my marathon post yet
  13. Well, I think it’s time for my annual “final post of the year” thingy. I’m this one a bit earlier than usual, so hopefully no one snakes the honor from me As always, 2023 was a lively year on the forum. It felt like the year began with users trying to cancel each other over their opinions on one conflict, and ended with users trying to cancel each other over another. Still, it was nice interacting with all of you during another revolution around the Sun. Whether we were sharing retro video game footage during the TISC, or gasping in disbelief at Femke Bol’s infamous fall, the feeling of togetherness and shared excitement shone through once more. I would like to thank everyone who indulged my incessant posts in the multi-sports games section, shared results documents with me, aided my hosting of the TISC, or simply interacted with me on the forum. I’ve spoken about the personal importance of this website to me in the past, but I can’t understate what an impact it has on my life. It’s there when I want to chat with people; while I anxiously wait at the doctor/dentist/other mundane places; when I need the hottest gossip or newest info on major event, or when I simply need something to scroll through on my phone. I consider many users to be legitimate friends of mine, even if we’ve never met in person. I guess that’s the “true” Magic of Totallympics. I wanted to give a shoutout to @Sindo for keeping the forum online and open for another year. To the mod team, @vinipereira @hckošice (and anyone I’m forgetting) for trying to keep threads as civil as possible. To @Wumo for creating so many fun and competitive prediction contests (even if I’m not the most active in the that space). To @Cobi for organizing a wonderful annual edition of the TISC. To @OlympicIRL @mrv86 for their assistance in organizing the open edition of TISC. To @JoshMartini007 @Matej @Benolympique @Mateus Nagime @Laraja @Josh for the frequent and informative updates on Olympic qualification. To anyone who joined this madness this year and stuck around (I don’t have a full list unfortunately). To anyone who contributed to the forum in their own way. There’s a lot to look forward to next year; I’m sure none of you need a reminder, so I’ll simply wish all users, their families, their friends, and their fellow country people a wonderful and hopeful new year. I personally hold no ill will towards 2023, but it is exciting to flip the calendar back around and celebrate a new year. So with hope in our hearts and in eager anticipation of what lies ahead, let’s prepare to welcome the last Totallympics time zone to 2024 and 33rd modern Olympiad!
  14. Still 11 hours to go in California. I believe the Pacific Time Zone is once again the last Totallympics time zone to enter the new year. Lengthy post incoming...
  15. @vinipereira do I have to vote in every category, or can I just vote in certain categories that interest me?
  16. Yeah, I've heard this in regards to over training and hyper-specialization, which are both problems in youth sport in the United States. Athlete burn out due to fatigue, poorer results, injury, etc. has become a talking point at the youth level.
  17. Japan really got screwed by the one film per nation rule at the Oscars. I haven’t seen Perfect Days yet, but Monster seems to be getting a surprising amount of love from U.S. viewers. I saw it last week and thought it was one of the best films of the year. Unfortunately, Japan had a very competitive year in film. Two big festival/critical hits, a favorite for animated film (along with a sleeper pick), and a well regarded action movie. I don’t envy the people who had to make that call.
  18. It was the talk of the thread about a week ago
  19. I actually miss the “cross country cross” events. Yeah, the idea was a bit silly, but it was something unique to the YOG. Really, the only thing missing is the skiathlon, mass start, or mixed team sprint. They could probably add the mixed team sprint, so the program includes two sprint opportunities, and two individual opportunities. I wouldn’t mind a mass start, but I don’t know how common those are at the youth level.
