  1. takes the last gold medal of the Games in women’s volleyball
  2. Annoyingly, it seems like there’s quite a few documents (“reports”) missing from the results system. Hopefully those get added after the conclusion of the Games. Otherwise, Bornan’s system still receives a pretty good score from me. The live results function worked pretty well, or at least on par with their competitors in the industry. I like the ability to toggle the schedule by grid, day, and sport. They were a bit slow adding information sometimes, but the info was generally accurate and helpful once in the system. The file size of the “reports” was also decreased from the past, which was one of my complaints with Bornan, so nice to see improvement there. I also really liked the television graphics package they created for the Games. They’ll be busy this year, as I believe they are doing similar functions for the Commonwealth Youth Games, Asian Games, Asian Para Games, Pan American Games, and Parapan American Games.
  3. *U.S. National Championships. The trials only take place during the Olympic season
  4. My guess is that these aren’t fraternities or sororities, but rather honor societies (for engineering, manufacturing, etc). They employ similar naming conventions, but tend to be more tame, or at least not have the “reputation” of fraternities and sororities. I participated in neither at my university, though that may actually cause me problems when it comes to getting hired as those groups can open and close doors in that regard. I don’t think this a proper sport, but rather a fun traditional competition. (And yes, the “buggy” is piloted from my understanding, which is why it’s actually not a bad replacement for bobsleigh.)
  5. If bobsleigh/skeleton is ever dropped from the program, I humbly submit we replace it with whatever the hell this is…
  6. I’d just change it to 2024
  7. Results show 0.2 seconds ahead. I think they should get that quota.
  8. Megan Rapinoe will retire at the end of the season.
  9. These have been postponed from November 2023 to February/March 2024.
  10. It’s actually interesting to see a real election for a rather prominent position on the Olympic Movement.
  11. Someone posted a video where someone shows a video of incident into r/fencing. It looks like Mexico actually got point and the coach and another team member ran onto the piste celebrating before the point was awarded. The coach took off his shirt and threw it during celebrations, and was then blackcarded.
  12. picked up another medal in netball. Surely this has to be their best performance at the CAC Games?
  13. Here’s a fun factoid, all three medalists in women’s golf have the first name “Maria.”
  14. Glenka Antonia won her country’s first ever medal at the CAC Games, a silver medal in women’s high jump now the only active associate member without at medal at the CAC Games.
  15. I never saw any broadcasts of artistic gymnastics past the first subdivision of all-around qualification.
  16. Aular snatched the gold medal in the men’s road race with a solo attack on the final lap. He finished just ahead of the group. Unfortunately, the stream didn’t show the last few kilometers, so hard to know what transpired. do well in the group sprint, but they left it too late
  17. Quirky moments/stories like this are one of the reasons I love following/reporting on smaller multi-sport games. I can see livestreams for indoor bowls scheduled on YouTube now. There hasn’t been much streaming in the past, so it will be fun to follow this event.
  18. Howell finished with a bronze medal in women’s BMX. The races, if they can honestly can called that, we’re mostly just an organized procession after the start. Pajon in a class of her own, of course. Howell was the only rider really able to keep pace with the Colombian pair, so maybe a glimmer of hope for a good result at the Pan Ams.
  19. The OCA also decided to recognize the sports of jump rope and dodgeball, while removing recognition from kho kho. Link: https://ocasia.org/news/4104-oca-accepts-two-new-sports-jump-rope-and-dodgeball-while-withdrawing-recognition-for-kho-kho.html
  20. You really have to appreciate the randomness with which this event is held
  21. withdrawing might actually make the race more interesting, or at least some curious results.
  22. Sierra wins a condensed field sprint in the women’s road race. There was a nice little crowd at the finish, but not too many people out on the course Jakarta-Palembang 2018 still remains unrivaled in that department.
