  1. Ah wow, the good old 'My blood was so thick I'd exercise in the middle of the night to make sure it'd keep moving' story. Those were the days.
  2. The entire Dutch team in the categories for 15 years and older will 'boycott' the European championships in Dessel, due to the track being deemed unsafe.
  3. Who is one of the gymnasts who accused Sanne's father of inappropriate/abusive behaviour, if I'm not mistaken. Wevers says Van Pol doesn't want to enter discussions to smooth things out, Van Pol (and the federation) say Wevers doesn't. Reeks like endless mud throwing.. And according to the usually rubbish 'showbizz' channels, so take it with a grain of salt, the Wevers family is known to be way too powerful in the world of Dutch gymnastics. And doing a lot to keep that power, with things having to go exactly as they want it. Apparently several athletes are scared to do or say anything about it.
  4. Oh I definitely care for more than medal places, and like I said, personally I don't agree with this whole thing. I only meant the general look of the race itself just won't really change that much, especially during an Olympics where (speaking for myself here) I don't wait for 10+ minutes after a finish because there's almost always something else to watch
  5. I assume this is not the women's race being cancelled, but simply being forgotten in terms of availability?
  6. Meaning Quick-Step is going for their main sprinter, Fabio Jakobsen, which was basically expected especially considering Cavendish did the Giro. Too bad Alaphilippe isn't recovered, although after that fall it's still mostly just good to see he's on his way.
  7. A warm welcome to you!
  8. Sanne Wevers has left the Dutch national team with immediate effect because of some sort of altercation with an unnamed team mate. According to her, the Dutch federation didn't do enough to remediate the situation (the other athlete did receive an official warning), so she has left the team.
  9. Right, I hadn't seen the details. So most of the 24 quota reduction in skiing comes from the combined? Not that I agree, or think it's good, but at the very least having 6 nations instead of 10 in the relay will result in...well, exactly the same nations in the top. And with 6 nations, there's still going to be 2 who won't be there for the medals, but to fight amongst each other to not be last, unless something weird happens in the next few years
  10. It obviously used to be different, but because of recent years I hadn't gotten myself to watching the press conference out of pure fear of what we were going to lose this time. Now I was quickly watching though, and....it doesn't seem to be all that bad at all?? Alpine mixed team gone, considering the non-stop criticism on that event I don't think many people will be sad about it...I know I'm not. And that's it in terms of losing events?! Four fewer spots in skating, alright. Some things added that don't really add anything, like the dual moguls events, alright. Doubles being split in men's doubles and women's doubles in luge...alright, I guess. I mean, it's way too early to have a competitive women's doubles event, 2030 would have been better, but there you go. Skeleton mixed team..fine, it doesn't cost us an event, so alright. Ski mountaineering as we knew, alright. Probably won't really watch it so I don't mind. Couple of spots fewer here and there, specifically skiing. Which is of course my main focus (women's cross-country, specifically), but overall doesn't seem to be too bad. I'm relieved
  11. To be fair to Budapest, even though it might have been overkill in the grand picture, the event was excellent in terms of atmosphere and such, the organizers definitely did a good job.
  12. Wow, a federation making systematic changes that actually make sense Hope is not yet gone from the world. Especially the world championships no longer counting for the World Cup is fantastic. It's the world championships, after all, one fights for world titles there and for World Cup points in World Cup races.
  13. Wellbrock vs Paltrinieri for the 5k world title. Together for a large part of the race and in the end Wellbrock was simply too fast for Paltrinieri. Bronze for Romanchuk, it's basically like we're still in the pool
  14. That would make the whole thing seem more logical. The four men did of course reach the finish/exchange zone, so they cut a part of the course somewhere?
  15. Did anyone see yesterday's farcical mixed relay? South Africa, Greece, South Korea and Spain started with a man, followed by a woman, so they had quite a lead after the first leg. However, the four women then went into the wrong direction, got pulled out of the water by a jury boat and disqualified some minutes later
  16. Plus, to be fair, the entire concept of online forums is just not exactly on the rise anymore. Personally I should simply enter threads of things I watch a bit more, instead of going to Totallympics.com, seeing the latest replies being in a bunch of relatively small events which I simply don't really have an interest in and thinking "ah never mind" Tour de France and athletics world championships coming up, I still have hope
  17. I would try harder to watch this if it was like in athletics, where you have to be in the top-x to go through. But it isn't, and that results in swimming heats often feeling rather boring to me, nothing ever really happens other than a very rare case of someone failing to qualify. Which often doesn't happen in an 'exciting moment', but just in one of the heats and then later it turns out to not be fast enough, oh well A quick click through the PDF's of Omega Timing work well enough for me nowadays for heat sessions
  18. has a junior champion from the Netherlands since this week https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/nc-czech-republic-wj/2022/result Born and raised in the Netherlands, but competing for the country of her dad (just like her brother does).
  19. Time for the definitive end of the Hosszu era. In Budapest, of all places.
  20. Yes, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to get rid of sexual education. That's like saying "children are going to be shot in school anyway, why try to do something against the ease with which any psycho can get a weapon?".
  21. Yes, because porn is known to be a reliable form of sex education
  22. Sure, because that's normal. And also not counting the states that are actually going to try and make traveling out of state for an abortion illegal. And also entirely besides the main points.
  23. Christian autocracy, coming right up.
  24. Expected, but still unbelievable. Oh well, backwards courts making their country going backwards, what else is new. Next step is making sexual education illegal, because they obviously don't want people to be somewhat safe, and since the obvious goal is more misery all around, that'd be a logical next step. It's interesting how they do whatever they can before someone is born, but once a child goes to school, authorities are happy to let them serve as shooting targets.
