  1. It went horribly wrong today at the opening ceremony, with a crush resulting in at least 12 deaths and 11 critically injured victims. Oddly enough, the president made a short statement after the situation, basically saying "something unfortunate happened, lots of injuries, let's be quiet for a few seconds", and then the ceremony continued with lasers and fireworks and stuff. I guess for those who didn't die while trying to get in a little before that.. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/aug/25/madagascar-killed-in-crush-at-indian-ocean-island-games-opening-ceremony
  2. Interesting, here on Eurosport there was no problem at all and Richardson was perfectly visible. She's a tiny 1,55m though, maybe it's that
  3. Great, spoilers for a totally different sport in this thread There goes the fun I was hoping for when watching that after the athletics session. Now it's a minor event, but I hope during the Olympics this time for the first time ever on Totallympics people won't do that
  4. I'm going for Tebogo in 19.60 and Lyles in 19.65
  5. Might be your TV, because it was most definitely shown
  6. Meanwhile the women's javelin final is as expected....extremely mediocre.
  7. That's probably number one on the list of things I would not want to hear my grandmother say, damn.
  8. Not even the schedule is fully available anymore, had to Google around to see what this morning's schedule was
  9. I wonder if Rojas is injured or something, all those attempts look just entirely....I don't know, lifeless.
  10. Also because a decathlon (or heptathlon) title is a bit more....prestigious, from a global perspective, compared to a niche event like hammer throw (nothing against it personally, but you know)
  11. Kaul in 19th, even better than in the forecast (where he was projected at 21st after three events). Seems closer to the medal positions than before the day started.
  12. Neugebauer with another massive plus in the shot put The dude is, so far, well on his way to a potential 9000.
  13. Pakistan having a global top-15 or so athlete
  14. Well that is both unfortunate and super expected...
  15. Javelin and 1500m, so the exact opposite of Kaul
  16. 8.00m PB and a massive plus for Neugebauer
  17. Mayer is so clearly still injured, he really, really needs someone to tell him "dude, the fuck are you doing, quit this right now and focus on Paris".
  18. That is serious stuff already. Warner on the other hand with 7.63 (?) so far, which is not even close to good enough.
  19. "Video not available" but now I am curious
  20. Can't decently follow a decathlon without a forecast obviously, so here is the one of ten7events based on everyone's decathlon PB. Not ideal, because it also counts PB's from like 6 years ago (there used to be one which counted mostly the past two years or so), but it is still a lot better than nothing to give a sense of how good certain results really are (so one can see that for example a 10.90 for Kaul would be WAY WAY better than a 10.40 for Warner): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KDPhuokybKcTLiISQ9Sq5pcIINbkUkCU/view
  21. Can't wait for tomorrow with once-every-two-years commentators talking about the insane comeback from Kaul, coming from well outside of the top-15 into the top-6 or so in the last two events, as would of course be totally expected given his qualities
  22. Some strong freelancers though. Especially Sweden has a small but definitely not weak team with Brorsson, Skottheim, Femling (and Brandt) Brorsson leading the west, Davidova the east, presumably.
