  1. So at least they have some medal for the photos and stuff, and in the excitement, instead of that nonsense with a medal ceremony the next day, with athletes getting their medals when all of the adrenaline and excitement is basically long gone. It's World Athletics saying "we know medal ceremonies really should be shortly after the event, for sure in the same day, but we're not going to do that anyway, so shut up"
  2. The fuck is wrong with the World Athletics website being down every single time after the session? https://worldathletics.org/competitions/world-athletics-championships/budapest23/timetable
  3. Time for the steeple, maybe after that the high jump will start, can't wait!
  4. New wildfires in Greece, of course these wildfires didn't hit houses of celebrities in Hollywood at all. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-66574476
  5. Either vastly overestimates or, or is like 'nah we have no chance anywhere'. Failing to see that having 20 different athletes with a 20% medal chance (so each one of them not being a massive medal favourite by itself) is very likely going to result in medals
  6. Apparently the UK Eurosport commentators had some brilliant argumentation for not disqualifying Warholm: "He can go much faster than this in the final, so he should not be DQ'ed." Uhm..huh?
  7. Massive up-and-down session. Awesome gold for Richardson, stunning throw by Ståhl, but on the other hand.....Warholm not being DQ'ed because he is too big of a star and teenage sensation (and pretty much medal favourite, if not title favourite) Jaydon Hibbert being injured.... Still entertaining though, as always
  8. I love how everyone from every country always feels like their country is performing badly. Which is just impossible, because if every country performs badly, we're going to be left with medals that aren't won by anyone
  9. Yeah I had entirely missed it, until someone pointed it out to me just last week
  10. Yeah, NOS has switched to a commentator for field events (who does indeed do cycling and short track as well, sadly), who is trying to create his own 'legend' by absolutely constantly making up weird sentences and wordplays, instead of doing his job and spontaneously have some nice stuff in between It's almost as annoying as a lot of English-language commentators in car racing, where it feels like all of them (except for Martin Haven) have an extreme need of having some recognizable 'logo' as a sentence. "And it's pedal to the metal, and it's go go go go go go!" from one of them at every single start, or "And it's eyes to the lights and foot to the floor!" from another, also at every single start. I am so super glad Eurosport finally has athletics rights back after six long years, Dutch Eurosport is blessed with a fantastic commentator there (who also does cross-country skiing in the winter and sometimes biathlon), who is already great on his own and even better with his Eurosport co-commentator (a manager of lots and lots of especially middle to long distance runners, so the amount of inside knowledge he has is incredible). They're great in terms of athletics stuff, but they also work amazingly well together, clearly enjoying what they're doing, bashing each other lightheartedly if there's some wrong prediction or something and just overall having fun while informing us viewers of everything we should know.
  11. https://www.logicallyfacts.com/en/fact-check/false-obama-s-and-other-celebrities-estates-and-mansions-survived-the-maui-fires-not-because-they-were-directed
  12. I'm glad that commentators on TV here don't really update the situation of the field event finals when they aren't shown, that would really take away all of the remaining tension in case they suddenly do show some throws or jumps
  13. Ah, only in Maui. Interesting that these conspiracy theories include houses that, well, how to say that gently.....aren't even on Maui.
  14. Yes, unbelievable coincidence. Also, the heavy rains and winds recently in the Alps region did not affect a single celebrity house in Monaco....unbelievable! And are we all just supposed to believe that the current Tenerife wildfires are coincidentally not affecting all the rich people's mansions on Lanzarote and Gran Canaria at all..?!
  15. Mostly known as a classic power abuser. As one of the pundits on Dutch TV said yesterday (someone with lots of connections into among other things Spanish women's football): "You'd wish these players a world title, you'd wish Spain a world title.....just not this coach. Every win for the Spanish women's team is a loss for women suffering from male power abuse." Which was not to say she was unhappy with Spain winning, because as she said: the players absolutely deserved it, nothing against them at all. On the 'bright' side for the Netherlands: one of the current Dutch players, who I believe has a Spanish and a Dutch parent, plays for the Netherlands now because she was one of many being bullied and abused out of the Spanish football world by Vilda
  16. Become European and get Eurosport where every field event has it's very own stream (available live and on-demand, as streams in 2023 should be)
  17. Honestly I'm fine with warmup/transport/call room shots, as long as they are done in appropriate moments....which they are barely ever done of course I found it nice to see the preparation of the 100m final for example, with the guys preparing their start blocks and everything, instead of just the usual on-screen graphic followed by the official intros. Stadium shots from the outside in events like this can suck it though, they literally add nothing. No insight in preparations, no building up tension, nothing.
  18. They show a different live calculation in the stadium? Because on TV Vetter was shown as bronze basically the whole way, with Vidts and then Krizsan being close for a bit, but in the last 100 meters or so they took the live standings away from the graphics, so on TV there was never any sense that anything unexpected happened in the fight for bronze...
  19. You got to see something of that? I forgot to turn on the Eurosport Player stream of that specific final. Too bad, because in the main broadcast basically nothing was shown except for a random throw by Fajdek or Nowicki and some replay of a decent attempt by Katzberg (not even his winning throw). And all of a sudden that final was apparently over
  20. Yeah financially it's probably gonna be difficult, but judging by the past few years, Budapest would definitely be a worthy Olympic city!
  21. Ah, Ferdinand 'I will remain unbeaten outdoor in all of 2023' Omanyala, who lost 3 of his 4 races right after saying that and then went on to be invisible in today's final Much nicer to see Goku Lyles win instead of Mr Bigmouth
  22. I mean, we're traveling across the world for surfing alone next year and though that is technically France, I doubt more than 0,1% of non-French people see it as such at all, so no problem if it's way outside of Hungary during Budapest 2036
  23. Depends what you look at. A local heptathlon, no, not really, but the top level athletes in big events are usually placed high enough to have an incentive. If you look at that, anywhere between 2:02 and 2:04 is realistic for Hall, anywhere between 2:07 (if in mega shape) or 2:12 or so for KJT and 2:19-2:22 or so for Vetter. Like in time trials in cycling, one can definitely get a bit of a sense of what athletes are capable of.
  24. The point is Vetter would likely still be 3rd if taking her 800m into account, as one would do in multi-events 2:20 is awful for Hall or Johnson-Thompson, but perfectly fine for Vetter, for example. And when taking a 2:20-2:22 or so into account, she would probably still be 3rd, unless those behind her really have one of their best ever runs.
  25. Vetter should be good for bronze if she has a decent 800m, meaning not too far above 2:20. Unless Oosterwegel, Vidts, Hawkins or Krizsan really improve themselves as well. Main fight should really be the one for gold. If Hall has a (for her) somewhat normal 800m, Johnson-Thompson needs to basically have her best race since roughly 2019 to have a real chance for gold. The biggest question seems to be whether Hall is physically fit enough for a full and strong 800m, if she is, she is definitely still the favourite for gold.
