  7. afaik, the CONCACAF playoff is only among the women. the men already completed their qualification process in the 2022 continental tournament. and I can't find a single news about that being modified in due course (like it happened for the women's European pathway). I searched also in Spanish language among the Dominican websites and press and there's no news of them losing their quota place, therefore I assume no changes have been made in the men's division.
  8. Finally! now we have the definitive location also for the Speedskating events at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. "After careful analyses, considering the characteristics of the two proposed solutions and the reflections that emerged in the last Control Room held last week in Rome, the Board of Directors of the Organizing Committee unanimously expressed itself in favor of the Fiera Rho project in Milan. Milan's proposal, entirely financed by private capital, has highlighted, in addition to the advantage of territorial continuity with the other competition sites in the ice world - with the exception of Curling - a significant and greater concreteness combined with a reduction in operating costs: among them, the logistical issues relating to the movement of athletes, National and International Federations' officials and referees; the costs of food and accommodation and those of a dedicated and detached workforce at the new venue; not to be forgotten, the income deriving from the multiple purchase of tickets: thanks to territorial continuity, the fan will actually be able to enjoy a greater number of competitions in the same city. On this occasion, the competition venue for the Speedskating discipline will exist only for the duration of the Olympic Games: a sustainable and innovative formula, which will allow Italy to be an example for the next editions of the Games, with a consequent strengthening of the binomial Sport and Olympic Movement. Based on the decision of the EB, the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation will immediately start a collaboration with the International Skating Union (ISU) to carry out the project taking into consideration all the required technical requirements. Today's vote is the result of in-depth analysis of all available details of both bids (Milan and Turin). The decision taken today by the EB, following the indications that emerged from the Control Room, takes into account some fundamental elements: the technical needs of the Organizing Committee; the experience of athletes, officials and spectators; the very tight timing in which action must be taken; the legacy that the project will leave to the City of Milan." which legacy might have a temporary venue going to take years to be built and exist only for 2 weeks before being dismantled?
  10. or maybe not... usually National events are not blocked either on the web nor on the satellite at 9 East. International events, instead, are normally geo-blocked (sometimes those held in HUN are not, however...it's quite a lottery).

  16. with 4 guys in the medal matches I think it has never happened before, especially in freestyle wrestling. however, 2 of them already lost their bronze medal match, even if I think the final seconds of Piroddu's match were at least controversial...he surely deserved more than he finally got (a bitter 5th place).

  21. last day of the Spring Nationals 3 more qualifying times for Fukuoka Simona Quadarella (4.05.83, women's 400m Free, 3rd pass and 4th title for her, top swimmer of the championships for sure) Benedetta Pilato (30.08, women's 50m Breast, 29.84 in the morning heats) Margherita Panziera (2.08.12, women's 200m Back) the last champions: Nicolò Martinenghi (26.90, men's 50m Breast, Simone Cerasuolo was second in 26.96) Alberto Razzetti (4.14.37, men's 400m IM) Gregorio Paltrinieri (14.49.02, men's 1500m) Viola Scotto Di Carlo (26.22, women's 50m Fly) in the end, it was a very modest championship with only 15 individual cards (12 swimmers) for Fukuoka and many clockings way below the expectations, especially by those athletes who were supposed to show an improvement in order to earn a ticket for Japan (we already knew that the top stars weren't going to show their best shape, that's not the problem in April). only very good news, 2 or 3 juniors showing some stuff (especially the 16 year young Sara Curtis, capable of winning the title in the women's 50m Free and Alessandro Ragaini, also 16 years young, who looks to be the next good to great freestyle middle distance specialist among our boys).
  22. it might be a bit harsh, but I'm looking at too many results being close (when not better) to the old scores, those we know very well how they've been made. and I'm seeing also too many improvements by huge, huge margin...and not by naturally growing youngsters... if this is the weightlifting "new deal", I'm better and turn my head the other side...
