  1. Isn't it, though? It seems to me that the IOC cannot make up their minds about what they want for the Paralympic Games. It looks like the IOC thinks about itself as a generous organization for "lending" the venues to the IPC after the Olympic Games. It would have been better if the Paralympic Games were staged before the Olympics, so they could attract supporters who were highly anticipating the Olympics. In my mind, though, I think it would be better to have a drastically smaller number of Para events integrated with the Olympic Games, and get rid altogether of the Paralympic Games. The Games segregate able-bodied and disabled athletes, while an integrated Olympic Games would promote sports even more. Besides, let Macau and Faroe Islands compete at the Olympics.
  2. I love Paris' logo. This is pure genius. Tokyo's is one of the worst I've seen in my life. The original stolen logo was even worse.
  3. Please, do it! There are many events I would enjoy watching. Also, I can't find anything in artistic gymnastics, and I would appreciate any video.
  4. First ever gold medal for Brazil, and quite the news here since Maicon wrote on Instagram that he is proud to be black and the racist Bulgarians had to deal with his gold medal.
  5. One of the Brazilians who played against Nepal said he enjoyed the opening ceremony even though he had to play the match the next day. There seems no be no serious preparation for the matches and I guess no one takes this beach volleyball tournament seriously. I'm not complaining, though. I'm here for the artistic gymnastics event, and even though there are very few gymnasts, a considerable number of them are medalists at the World Championships and the Olympic Games, so it should be nice to watch (if there's streaming video available. that is).
  6. This is the picture the official website shows: This setting is easily something I would expect from a gay porn movie.
  7. It's the first time I heard about beach wrestling. As a fan of rhythmic gymnastics, I find it extremely ironic that half naked muscular hairy men rolling on the sand is a macho sport, while lean flexible thin girls take part in what is perceived as a gay sport.
  8. 2016 Olympian, gymnast Tutya Yilmaz from Turkey has announced her retirement. Probably the most anxious and nervous gymnast I've seen competing in my life, but she had lots of potential. Unfortunately, she fell 99% of the time. She hit her balance beam routine at the 2016 Olympics, though, and deserved a spot in the final, but fell short. Still, it was beautiful and probably the best routine in her entire career.
  9. Does this include gymnastics? Even women's gymnastics? All of the girls from the bronze medal winning team at the 2019 Worlds are 16 years old, so they would not be allowed to join the military. But what about older gymnasts like Vanessa Ferrari? Also, @heywoodu might help me here: wasn't Yuri van Gelder part of the military? What about the status of other Dutch gymnasts right now?
  10. In Brazil, the army pays a hefty sum of money for top level gymnasts. They train in their clubs, but are officially military athletes. I know that some gymnasts in Russia and Ukraine are also part of the military. I'm surprised neither country will send gymnasts to these Games.
  11. I usually ignore this event, but artistic gymnastics will be held for the first time, so I'm slightly interested. Only men's events will be contested and a measly six countries will compete: and . Not super exciting, but some big names will compete, so it should be nice to watch.
  12. It's always nice to help with these. And, as always, middle of the pack for me. I'm terrible at predicting results.
  13. Women's gymnastics is at one of the lowest points in history when it comes to judging. The US, Russia and China are always massively overscored, with the occasional country (Canada, Belgium and now Italy) getting fair results here and there (though Belgium has received scores much higher than their gymnasts deserved this year).
  14. After Flávia was robbed of a medal, Nory is world champion. Nice.
  15. Ouch. That has got to be a zero for . EDIT: Not a zero. Meh podium. I'm sick of Radivilov getting medals with sloppy vaults.
  16. Dragulescu always screws up badly in his second vault. After a nearly perfect first vault, he had to do it again here. Argh!
  17. There is a near imperceptible moment when Lodadio's forearms are used for him to keep balance in a handstand. This deducts 0.3 from his final score. It's one of those things that casual fans don't see, but judges are very careful when judging. It was a fair result, though Çolak also had some errors, of course. Last year we had a much better final when it comes to the execution of skills, but this year was a lot more unpredictable. Great final, still.
  18. It depends on who scored the highest individual scores in each stage. Scores for rings now are consistently lower than previous years, so Petrounias is at a huge disadvantage here.
  19. No Olympics (for now) for Petrounias! EDIT: He needs 90 points at the World Cup series to qualify for the Olympics. He has zero at the moment. China's Yang needs to win only one stage to qualify. Petrounias will likely not be at the 2020 Olympics!
  20. No Olympics for Tovmasyan. Now only Samir can kick Petrounias of Olympic qualification, at least for now.
  21. First medal ever for Turkey also, probably gold! What a day!
  22. I'm not bestmen. LOL. But judges are biased towards the Americans. There's no way Carey deserved a silver medal.
