  1. Olympic qualification until now:Event finals: Yeo Seo-jeong Roxana Popa All-around: Host quota reallocation: Only Finland, New Zealand and Singapore can still qualify individual gymnasts (or Brazil, if they fail to qualify a team, but in this case Spain would qualify a full team and one extra individual quota would be available). This means that from Switzerland until Peru everybody is assured an Olympic quota. Singapore is very unlikely to qualify, what means that Chusovitina will almost certainly qualify through host quota reallocation (and if Brazil fails to qualify a team, Chinese Taipei will be given host quota reallocation while Uzbekistan will qualify directly).
  2. Romani! Finally a real chance of a medal!
  3. Savranbasi needs only 11 points on floor to virtually secure an Olympic quota.
  4. Hungary blew their chances on beam. Unbelievable. Switzerland is also not doing so well. Now only Brazil can qualify a full team.
  5. Hungary with huge scores. Well deserved. They can realistically upset Japan along with Brazil.
  6. I believe event finalists can only qualify if not previously qualified through the all-around. Since she is the best Mexican gymnast in the all-around competition, she has secured one quota either way. It would have been better for Mexico if they had just dropped Moreno out of the competition after her vault, so they would have secured a second quota.
  7. Olympic qualification hopefuls until now:Event finals: Yeo Seo-jeong Roxana Popa All-around: Host quota reallocation: Probable individual qualifiers in upcoming subdivisions are from Turkey, Hungary, Switzerland, New Zealand and Finland. Singapore, Cyprus and Denmark will have a hard time qualifying. Unless major surprises occur, nations listed from Australia to Chile have secured one quota. Israel, Norway, Peru and Uzbekistan will probably be the last qualifiers, considering the host quota reallocation.
  8. So, I believe Chusovitina will qualify now. I can see only seven gymnasts ahead of her, and this would be enough for her to secure at least the position for reallocation of the host nation quota.
  9. Hungary, in theory. Brazil for sure (if they hit). Switzerland, no way.
  10. Olympic qualification hopefuls until now:Event finals: Yeo Seo-jeong Roxana Popa All-around: Mexico and Peru are now in position for one quota each, while Sri Lanka and Iceland dropped out. Chusovitina is still hanging on.
  11. Japan failed hard (for their level) and will probably qualify dead last as a team. This serves them right for the worst, most asinine and illogical team selection procedures ever. Their best gymnast, Mai Murakami, who could easily win a medal on floor and maybe in the all-around, is at home now. Their men's team had a terrible session in podium training, and their best male gymnasts are also currently at home. Japan failing and being ashamed is sad, but at the same time good news, so maybe their terrible selection system will finally be changed.
  12. Olympic qualification. I updated the standings in my previous post. Egypt has a very good chance of qualifying.
  13. Olympic qualification hopefuls until now: Event finals: Yeo Seo-jeong Roxana Popa All-around: I would say that from Australia to Belarus, qualification is almost certain. From Malaysia to Croatia they have big chances. From South Africa to Norway, they might earn one of the final positions once the competition is over. From Uzbekistan to Sri Lanka, almost impossible to hold up.
  14. Roxana Popa 13.800 on floor and will almost certainly qualify for the final (and the Olympics!!!)! This is the best moment of this whole event until now! YES! SHE DESERVES IT SO MUCH!
  15. Great Britain and Italy were somewhat disappointing today. They did enough to qualify a full team, but Italy's beam rotation and Great Britain's floor rotation were extremely uncomfortable to watch. It's a pity that they managed to outscore Germany with terrible routines like that. Chusovitina is currently 19th in the all-around and I've lost all hope she could qualify. It's impossible now.
  16. Even so, Chusovitina would have to be the 29th best non-qualified gymnast in the all-around respecting the 1 per country rule, and at the end of the first day she already sits in 18th. It's nearly impossible that only 12 gymnasts will be better than her in the second day. I expect more.
  17. Any nation can qualify through the Asian Championships (I think... This qualification system got me really confused). China and Japan are the favorites for the quotas.
  18. Gymnasts who should be a safe bet to qualify based on the all-around rankings: Georgia Godwin (if Australia fails to qualify as a team) Diana Varinska Lee Yun-seo Danusia Francis Kim Su Jong Aneta Holasova Marcia Vidiaux Maria Holbura Close, but still at risk of not qualifying: Elisa Haemmerle Anastasiya Alistratava Mandy Mohamed Barbora Mokosova Long shots: Filipa Martins Caitlin Rooskrantz Jonna Adlerteg Gabriela Janik Simona Castro Oksana Chusovitina EDIT: I originally counted Austria twice instead of Portugal.
  19. I didn't watch her routine, but at least Germany finished ahead of Belgium. Germany is a program with a much more mature development, and they risk a lot more than Belgium does. Belgium plays safe with all of their gymnasts, except for Derwael. In my opinion, gymnastics should not be about playing safe. It's great to have attention to detail and clean form, but they should also focus on difficulty, or else we will see boring routines over and over again. I feel bad for Australia, a program that risks a lot more, but is seldomly rewarded.
  20. 14.266 for Ellie Black on bars. These judges are completely out of their minds. Two things are common here: routines with terrible execution earning big scores (Black's uneven bars routine) and easy routines, severely lacking in difficulty, earning big execution scores (almost every Belgian gymnast). Ugh.
  21. Their junior girls are fantastic. They can, in theory, rebuild their program for the 2024 Olympics, but Golgota has to stick around. She had a terrible day today. I still can't believe it was Holbura who scored over 50 points and was the first from her nation in the all-around ranking.
  22. And France is on fire. If they repeat this performance in the team final, I believe then can get a medal. Amazing result for them!
  23. Not only did Romania not qualify a team, but Golgota, their best gymnast (in theory), also did not qualify. Holbura is the one who qualified through the all-around.
  24. This qualification system is so confusing that I am completely lost. Can a country qualify two gymnasts, one through the all-around competition and one through the event finals? I thought that each nation could either have a full team, or one gymnast.
  25. 13.966 for Melanie de Jesus dos Santos on floor, even though she had a visible fall on her double turn. Unbelievable. This competition cannot be taken seriously.
